OK. I see a lot of Raven setups go by, including my own.
I've just realised though. Almost all of them are either '6x Siege' or '6x Cruise' as the basic setup.
And I'm trying to think. Why _not_ mix your cruises and sieges? I mean, mixing up guns on a battleship, is generally held as a bad idea, because having different optimal and tracking is ... well, just not good, especially if they're significantly out - you cover up 'holes' in your coverage, but pay for it by being really rather sucky at all ranges.
But ... well missiles don't have tracking to worry about. Nor optimal ranges really. Their damage yes, varies somewhat, but it's not like you're having to worry about missing entirely. And as a bonus, your BCS apply to both, as does your ship bonuses.
So, much like trading off Siege vs. cruise, you gain damage at cost of power vs. smaller ships, but ... well, where's the harm in a halfway house? 3 siege, 3 cruise for example, for 'useful' amounts vs. cruisers, whilst not compromising vs. BS overly, and at the same time reduced fittings pain.
Or am I missing something?

Apart from noobs I have only seen Light Darkness fit sieges and cruise missiles on a raven and that was in a tournament. So I don't know if it is any good.

The only issue here is range, but as long as youre say, within 50k of the target it won't matter much. If you have the spare grid after fitting everything else, go for it.

I've used it with my alt for ratting angels: 3x arbalest siege, 3x tech-2 cruise launchers, 3x tech-2 ballistic controls (or 4?) and a shield tank fit quite well.
Was a cheap setup, not bad for the job and a cargohold full of ammo allowed me to rat some time, because cruise missiles don't need so much space ( I had no station there ). I wouldn't use it for pvp. lol. ___________ Muuuhhh !!! |

Edited by: valerydarcy on 04/04/2007 15:29:33 like someone said, so long as youre within range for both to his and you can fit both on your p-grid and comp then theres no real reason not to. I tried using that setup when i had my very first raven and theres no real drawback or benefit from doing it- for missions/npc that is, not pvp. |

The only time I really mix up the torps and cruises is when I want to field 2 heavy NOSes.
...and yes, we do sell and deliver ammo. 425 Express Delivery is available upon request, please see Hans Gates and Marcus Grisbius regarding this option. |

Only serious problem I can see is an insane loss of efficiency. Unless you like to take it easy, you'll have a hard time keeping tabs on when to shoot next target.
Myself, I know I need 12 cruise to take out a BC, with the different flight times etc, it sounds like it might be annoying to use split guns. Please let us know how it works out, its a very interesting idea but sounds like you make a lot of tradeoffs.

If you are in a BS heavy place, its very suboptimal, as it would take 3x torp launchers forever to break the tank alone.. so you have to use cruisers, lowering your total DPS quite a bit.
If its BC heavy your torps are crappy and slown down your BC kills a lot.
So basically.. a split setup slows you down vs all kinds of ships.. better to specialize.

yes they are reduced in time but it still only takes 2 volley's

Actually torps do better damage to BCs than cruise missiles, only cruisers and below are better served with cruise missiles, and even then that only holds up as long as there are no target painters.
I actually used a 3 Torp 3 Cruise setup on my mission Raven before it had a Gist booster, and that setup did pretty damn well. --------- There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Kestrel There is no 'e' in Caldari
