I want to get a decent hauler for mining ops and what not. In the beginnning I want to get to like level 3 perhaps 4, level 5 seem to be a bit overkill in the start of my Eve career.
I tried teh search function but it's messed up, all i got was auctions for characters, not infomation or comparisments on different haulers.
I understand Mammoth and the Indy Mark V is two good ones.
Pro's Con's anyone?
Thanks

Mammoth requires minnie industrial 4.
Itty-V requires galiente industrial 5.
The mammoth has more capacity then the Itty-IV, but the Itty-V is the best industrial. If you want to eventually get the best hauler, Galiente is better. If you only want to go to lvl 4 and stop, Minmatar is better.

If you are training an indy to 5, you can also go the amarr - impel route.. I personally like it over the mark5, but both have their advantages.

Iteron Mk V is the best all around hauler IMHO. With rigs and some upper level cargo expanders you can get an incredible amount of storage on it. The Caldari ships and even the Minnie ones can't match the Mk V for sheer hauling power.
An added benefit is that if you take your skills up to where you can fly the Mk V, you are a few days away from flying a blockade runner

If you dont mind me asking, whats a Blockade runner?
Okey, lets say I dont need to have the most cargo space.
I would like to be able to mine in my hauler. Might not be effective but at least I can read a book in High-Security space while mining. It relaxes me.
What would I go for then? With perhaps the occasional hauling for mining ops in the future when those are being done.

They are haulers which act as transporters in 0.0 territory or a potentially hazardous territory. Some have a passive bonus of having a warp strength of +2 i believe. Meaning you'll need more than 1 tackler to take it down. However, it has no impact if you get caught by a bubble. ----------------------------------------------

Iteron 5s are great because unlike the T2 indies, they're cheap but hold just as much. Great disposable haulers.

Edited by: Humpalot on 06/04/2007 05:27:04 Level-5: Iteron-V has potentially the largest cargo capacity of any hauler in the game including T2 Transports (Freighters of course are a whole other deal). Iteron-5 also has a great slot layout and can fit a Microwarp drive with proper fittings. Only it and a Mammoth (barely) can fit MWDs in the Tech-1 class of haulers. Of course with Warp to Zero now having an MWD on a hauler is less important than it once was but point is you can do it.
Level-4: Mammoth is best here. This is the best hauler for your training time there is as jumping to Level-5 is a huge committment. Less cargo cap than an Iteron-V but not a whole lot worse. If you never plan to train up L5 industrials this is will do the best for you.
Level-3: Badger MkII. Nice all around hauler. Not fantastic cargo but good enough. Can also tank quite well. Still a hauler of course so that may not mean much but every once in awhile you hear of someome nailing somebody with a Battle Badger setup which is kind of funny.
Level-2: Bestower
Level-1: Bestower
Note that while the Iteron-V is the best industrial ship (cargo wise) there is the rest of the Iteron line frankly sucks. Iteron-III is ok but the rest just stink.
Also note that once you train to L5 in any industrial line you are very close to getting your hands on Transport class haulers which changes things (for instance the Amarr Impel can rival the Iteron-V for cargo capacity...very close when both are fully pimped). So, while training L5 Gallente industrial gets you the best T1 hauler in the game training any other race to L5 plus a tiny bit more for Transports levels the playing field against the Itty-V. Of course the Transports cost a lot more.

They do have a +2 built in warp core stabilisation which is handy. In addition they are faster than the Deep Space transports. By faster I mean in every way. They are more nimble (align faster), lighter (accelerate faster), faster in warp (warp at 9 AU/s vs. 3 AU/s) and have a respectable base speed for a hauler. So, if caught in a bubble they have a better chance of running out of it. Of course unless the campers are asleep not likely you will get away anyway but more doable in a Blockade Runner.
The Blockade Runner's downsides compared to a Deep Space Transport is much less cargo capacity, less built in tank and fewer fitting slots to do whatever.
Sadly Blockade Runners got an unintended (I think unintended) nerf when CCP nerfed nanoes and i-stabs. Before they nerf the Blockade Runner was very nice and could actually fulfill its role pretty well. Now they have been slowed down some and many consider a Deep Space Transport to be a better choice since with fittings it can come close to a Blockade Runner's abilities while retaining better cargo and tank.
That said Blockade Runners make very nice Courier mission ships in Empire. Most (not all) courier missions will fit in their cargo hold and their fast alignment and warp speeds make them efficient.

To be fair, when everyone is concluding that the Iteron is the best hauler hands down, they're using like half-billion ISK fits thanks to the tech2 rigs.

The rigs add a % of cargo capacity. This means that if an Itty V with rigs is better than any other with rigs, an Itty V without rigs will be better than any other without rigs... =AFK=

I prefer the Badger MKII or the Mammoth for mining. Especially when I'm hauling for myself or a small group without drones/gunship support. They both have 6(?) midslots which leaves room for a good bit of sheild tank, which can help save on repair bills when those pesky rats respawn when you warp in.

In your case I'd go for the Badger 2.
You could also do Mammoth but its a few days more training.

Hmm, to offer a slightly different opinion I would say that the Amarr haulers would be the way to go for you.
No Hauler has more than one Turret hardpoint, so one Miner II is the best you'll be able to go for. However, take a look at how many low slots you'll have available as well. The Sigil, for all it's small initial cargohold, has 5 low-slots. While its cargohold starts out rather small, a brace of cargo expanders does quite nicely for it. Alternatively, you could fit 5x Mining Upgrades to go along with your Miner II and be able to mine faster than any other hauler besides the Itty V with just Amarr Industrial I! The Bestower also boasts a pretty impressive cargohold and 4 low slots.
I would personally shy away from Gallente haulers unless you're going to go all the way to the Itty V. The Iteron III and IV are inferior ships compared to the alternatives for the same skillpoint investment IMO.
The Badger Mk II is great with its level III requirement, but as it only has 3 low slots which means the Bestower can beat it for cargohold space fairly easily with the same SP investment.
The Hoarder, also with 3 low slots, will also be beaten out by the Bestower. The Mammoth reigns king of the level IV haulers though, so decide if you want to make do with Level III or go ahead and train up to level IV.
Long story short, the Bestower wins amongst the Level III haulers primarily due to its fourth low slot, the Mammoth amongst the Level IV haulers but the Iterons fall flat until you hit the Level V version, which is the best of the bunch.

And as you've seen every race's ship has it's proponents.
FWIW, I prefer something with a higher base cargo vs more low slots with expanders simply because that means I'm not as sluggish.
What I am in the process of doing is rigging out a Mammoth. A Mammoth with 4 t2 cargo expanders (32M) plus 3 cargo optimization I rigs (120M) will hold a full jet-can with room to spare (using 7 Giant containers). Yes it's 150M t1 hauler, but only having to make 1 trip per can is more than worth it for me. William McC racken

Ok, now I have a mechanics question. Do cargo expanders have any affect on your agility? More to the point: do they reduce your acceleration?
The reason I ask is because if they don't affect your acceleration rate, but reduce your top speed, you would actually hit the warp-speed faster with expanders than without. It's been a while since I've needed to slowboat anywhere, so max velocity isn't a concern of mine, but hitting warp asap is.
