Hiya all!
I've been playing around with diffrent POS-setups for a while now, but never been really satisfied with them.
So, now I'm thinking let's hear what the rest of EVE has to say on the subject.
The goal is to build a "perfect" Deathstar using a gallente tower as a base. I have some ideas for a setup and I'd just love to hear what you think.
Here goes:
6 x Large Railgun batteries 2 x Cruise missile batteries (for pesky intys trying to deplete my ammo)
3 x EM-harderners 3 x Exp-harderners 2 x Therm-harderners 1 x Kin-harderner
2 x Tracking arrays
2 x Webifier batteries
This leaves 10'000 PG and 4000+ CPU so to top if of I'll add:
8 x Stealth emitter arrays
So, this is what I came up with... Anyone with better ideas?

All things considered, Minmatar towers are better for damage output overall, but with hybrids:
You might want to downgrade to medium arty / rail since you can no longer alpha-strike dreads and maybe replace those cruises with some small rails + another webber for the intys.
Have you figured what the sig radius would be with all those emitters? I'd be curious to know how much they reduced a dread's damage output. _______________ Pwett CEO and Founder [QTC]QUANT Corp.

Why would you try to build the perfect deathstar and use a non-minmatar tower?

Well, I started out with the Gallente tower, and started playing with it. This is what I came up with.
Perhaps I should try to make a "perfect" deathstar for all the towers. Tbh, it's a bit troublesome to have the "wrong" tower if you don't have the right ice for it.

I possibly got you wrong then, I thought you wanted the perfect deathstar one can deploy (free of whatever position you are in atm)...local Ice-fields dont play a big role in that imho.

You need to go to empire for trade goods anyway.. may as well bring the ice goods.. so you can have the ideal tower.

I am also interested in a gall tower deathstar setup. Even if it's not as good as a minni.

You would be better off with a mix of arties (EMP) and rails. It's easy to tank a pos if you know it only does two damage types.
The POS, whatever you do, will be defenceless vs dreads. If your attackers will use dreads then your best bet is 3 of each hardener, a webber or two, warp disruption battery, and a mix of small and large rails/arties (with a couple of small ac for inties close by. The guns are to shoot at support fleet for dreads. That's the most you can hope for. The Gallente pos have the smallest shields so you won't last that long.
You could try using more warp jammers and dampers/ecm. They all go offline once you hit reinforced but attackers will need to be very sure they can get your pos to reinforced before they get attacked - multiple scrams will make it hard to leave otherwise. That plus the hardeners will deter casual attackers. It takes twice as long due to hardeners and if they get attacked with overwhelming force they can't escape. |

After a quick check I can report that stealth-emitters are NOT ingame.
Further, I came up with a little more devious setup .
Let's hear what you think about this:
8 x Large blaster batteries (should be dandy with the gallente damagebonus) 2 x Cruise missile batteries (again, for those intys)
3 x EM-harderners 3 x Exp-harderners 2 x Therm-harderners 1 x Kin-harderner
4 x Tracking arrays 2 x Webbys
And finally:
25 x Remote sensordampening batteries
And of course the mandatory bubbles around the POS.
The general idea is that no matter what attacks the POS will have to do it while enduring the fire from the 8 Blasters... And they should pack quite a punch.
So how about it?

Oh, they will. 101 structures isn't that many, and as soon as the tower is reinforced, its just a giant sitting duck and can be mopped up without even risking dreadnoughts.

I'm thinking that with 95 cruise launchers it will be very nasty for the enemy support fleet.

Problem with that is, thats it's a bit too easy to 'gank' tower. Cruise missiles do not have damage multiplier (like torpedoes and citadels do) so their damage against more than one dreadnaught is not that stellar and after tower hits reinforced .... So in a nutshell against full missile tower all you need is to hit it while defenders are sleeping or at work and it's done.
Not totally useless ofcource - amarr missile tower can be formidable if you get your defence fleet there before its reinforced (never seen that happen but then again, I have used missile setups only as 'suicide POS' without planning to defend them if they get attacked).
About 'death star' -- what ever you do you want to do all damage types. Only 2 damage types are way too easy to tank. I myself prefer Amarr towers with mix of lasers and projectiles (a bit more power for my toys) altho I imagine minmatar ones are the best for cookie cutter deatch stars (can use full grid of projectiles so with tower bonuses a bit better for ganking than amarr, amarr just has slight industrial edge if you not after 'full deatch star'). Also it's reasonable to mix guns sizes -- large ones are not that stellar against battleships altho they give very good fire focusing. About short range guns - some are good, but not full grid of them -- some dreads can engage quite reliably from outside 90 km 'death zone' (120 km if you spread the love near your shield bubble but that will leave some sides propably somewhat uncovered).

Put more webs or some medium/small guns becose large guns dont hit battleships and smaller ships when they are moving:(

If dreads show up, you're done. But you can make their lives miserable :)
Use some of the Neut batteries instead of the large guns, and sub the rest of the guns for Medium Artys or Rails. Go faction guns where possible, too.
The question is not "what is the perfect deathstar"... the question is "do you have sov 3?"
The most lethal POS I've ever seen is a battleship shredder.... it has the cyno jammer, and the rest of the guns are Mediums with warp scram and webbing batteries. Throw in a couple of POS control players, and any attacking fleet will have the worst day.
They may eventually get your POS, but it will cost them billions upon billions in lost ships to do so.
Also, even though you are limited by grid for what guns you can turn on, you are not limited in the number of guns you have anchored. If you can only have 12 guns online, you can have an extra 30 anchored and waiting to be onlined as the attacking fleet takes out a gun.
A large tower with Medium rails or Medium Artys, and a cyno jammer, is a attacking pilot's worst nightmare.
Now Recruiting. Click on the sig for details!

Large Gallente Tower
10x Shadow Serp Large Blaster Batteries 4x Medium Rail Batteries 2x Domination Web Batteries 1x Shadow Warp Disruptor 1x Shadow Warp Scrambler 3/2/1/1 Ratio Hardeners 24+ Shadow Serpentis Sensor Dampers
The true numbers may be off but theres a gallente 'damp star.' Take control of the large guns and test those dread tanks ater you dispatch of those pesky support ships and carriers. Dampers make them come close and say hello to the blasters.
Weakness is a large, well organized force (like evey other POS) that uses remote sensor boosters on the dreads.

1.Nothing will defend you against a dread attack, Pointless to even try to gear that way. 2. But for a high sec space setup with only battleship warfare.
6x Med Domination Artillery 3 x Med Domination Auto cannons 2 x Med Dark Blood Laser 2 x Small Dark Blood Pulse laser 2 x Small Serps Blaster
4 x Domination sensor damps 3 x Domination Warp Scramblers 2 x Domination Webbers
3x Labs 1x Corp hanger
Ps: Dark blood tower ftw

People usually use Caldary one in hi sec (as it's usually research pos). It's most definately is not death star, but it is annoying to put into reinforced. Well assuming you are willing to offline labs and online defenses ofc.
3x Small Railgun 3x Small Artillery 6x Cruise Missile Battery 6x Torpedo Battery ------------------ 1x Ballistic defelction array 2x Exlposion Dampening array 2x Photon Scattering Array ------------------ 4x Ion Field ECM 4x Phase Inversion ECM 4x Spatial Destabilization ECM 4x White Noise ECM 6x Warp Scrambling Array 12x Sensor Dampening Array
Keep full bay of strontsium and few hundred small guns near bay. Should it get reinfored anchor (or if anchored already just online) guns. It's almost over tho unless you have some rather competent defenders to keep your tower after reinfored timer. Full bay of strontsium gives you reasonable timeframe tho to hire mercks for help or mobilize your own defence op. Substitute faction where you can afford it.
And you must have stepped real hard on someones toes if he bothers taking that setup out in hi sec
