5. The trailer as seen on the Ten Ton Hammer website will probably never be released in its current form to the public. It was rushed through before GDC, with what we had running on our desktops at the moment. We feel it doesn't fully convey the richness of the station environments and the details in shading and texturing we intend to use.
6. We plan to release a proper trailer in a few months time. Yes I know, we're secretive bastards, but that's the cold brutal reality of life, I guess.

I've seen this before, and my reaction remains the same now as it was then. Why bother?
Eve isn't about close up shots of our ships (despite CCP's promotional videos--- bad CCP, bad...) or mega-detail avatars having cyber pron in some instanced area. It's about shooting at little red blinky's, then looting the wrecks.
Though the avatars look really nice and the motion is pretty sweet, it's just fluff. Fluff is unnecessary stuff.
Why bother?
Lovingly rendered avatars seem either to encourage dancing emotes (shudder), or a waste of programming time better spent on other things.
Maybe someone who buys into this stuff could explain why I should care, because I'm clearly missing the importance...

Typical CCP. I think they must be matchoshists, since they love to watch us suffer. They throw us a tidbid of something absolutely revolutionary to the best game ever! The game we all love so much!! And then ... we are not allowed to watch it in hires! "Just wait a few months".

you see. CCP have multiple teams. programming teams and modelers and so on. so a team can work on the 3d models used in this, maybe even a programming team. while some other teams work on improveing the game.
when do people get this?... do you all thing that ccp is 10guys in a garage working on the same thing at once?... what should a mission writter do with a 3d model?

This is what EVE is to you, not to everyone. While I certainly enjoy shooting the red blinky's I mainly enjoy the roleplay aspect of the game. Being able to leave my pod and interact with others inside a station would bring a considerable amount of depth to my roleplay (however, if I see someone doing dance emotes outside of the dance floor of a club I will be forced to beat them repeatedly with a fish). It's always bugged he hell out of me that most of the chronicles take place out of pod and I can't experience anything like what they write about.
Always remember, not everyone plays the way you or I do. Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

sometimes fluff makes a game more interesting. Regardless, it will all have some functions at some point wether they be optional or not. Contrary to popular belief more players will actually allow ccp to make the game better isntead or ruinining it by having an "instant gratification" crowd on eve. How many dragons can you slay? What you would rather doesn't matter in the larger scheme of things. Not to mention that its beginning to infuriate me and anyone else with a half cent of common sense the way you guys think that every programmer is the same. You think taht if CCP employs 10 000 programmers that they would all be able to work on the same and single task and make it proportionately better / completed faster. NO !!

We keep hearing that CCP is fixing things but are never shown any actual improvements. In the last few months we have gotten info on in station avatars and in game voice neither of which 99% of eve cares about.
Things CCP still havenÆt fixed many 2+ years old:
Amarr POS battle mechanics (find something better there are plenty of ideas) lag (getting worse everyday, most large battles end in multiple node crashes) capital ship balance Titans logoff/logon traps (still not totally fixed) blob warfare lowsec balance t2 BPOs deployable defenses in alliance sov systems local (be gone with you) ECM (underpowered) damps (overpowered) factional warfare new graphics planet development nos better market tools (better options for monitoring stocks) better corp hanger tools (audits/logs) did I mention the game crippling lag?
Once CCP has a full team on each one of those issues and is also working on new game content then they can work on the stuff only a small minority of EVE wants.

Not that I disagree with your assessment of what needs to be fixed in EVE (and then some); but how do you know CCP does not have a full team assigned to each of those issues? ...

Edited by: Jovius Marginus on 09/04/2007 23:44:42 Because alot of the issues (POS warfare, amarr, logoff/logons, local, lowsec, others) have been around for 2+ years since I joined the game. Even after hundreds of complaints none have them have been fixed and most are being ignored.
Combine that with CCP talking about 2000 player battles in public interviews (yeah right) and lag at its worst point since Ive been playing (150 players brings system to a standstill) I think its time to admit CCP isnt working on those issues like they should be. Then we get dev blogs about crap like eve-voice (teamspeak ftw???) and walk in station.

As a fairly new person who runs missions i think this walk in station clip looked pretty cool, are they going to have an on station combat system as well, I can lock my target and start hitting F1-F5 for my weapons and then shield booster. J/king
a more serious question i have is will the agents be part of the walk on station thing? as in will i have to wait inline or something like that to get a mission from an agent? or will they be more or less how they are now?

True, however I think that many of the things you site haven't been fixed because of management direction, design and coding issues, not because a team had not been assigned. Anyway, I certainly share your frustration.
While the utility of both EVE Voice and WIS is yet to prove itself, both projects have separate teams working on them that apparently didn't even exist at CCP until very recently. ...

No, what people like you don't seem to realize is that ccp has a limited budget. Every programmer working on project x takes money (read: dev time) away from another project. They allocate portions of their budget to different areas at the same time. so, if one section has x amount of money, they have y amount of time to fix/produce/whatever.
What people like me are trying to get across to people like you is that there are major problems in the game that go unfixed FOR YEARS. Not niggling details, major ones. Yet, CCP keeps allocating time to introducing ever more content that further borks up some parts of the game as it enhances/expands other parts of the game. It's called misallocation, and it's not getting better.
If you introduce missions for the mission runners, please support the mission runners when they try to access the new content. If you want epic fleet battles, please design a load-balancing system that can support said fleet battles.
Last I checked, we weren't all clamoring for WoW like content rewrites of game dungeons at the expense of old issues going unresolved. Yet, some of us have been/are clamoring for CCP resources to be properly allocated to fix existing faults.
Yes, that means a bunch of the new 200 positions avertised by CCP should go to the correct code development areas, and not to new stuff. If CCP is suddenly flush with cash, I certainly hope they are hiring people who CAN fix the problems.

Edited by: Rakaim on 18/08/2007 04:22:07 Psh, CCP doesn't have a budget - they're getting a MINIMAL amount of 130$ a year from every subscriber times... how many subscribers? Wait, CCP is building new offices in other countries? What? Lol. (Don't bother arguing becuase I don't care, and I'm mostly kidding)
As far as staying on topic goes, This is Jake. What am I saying? It is so much better than Jake. It's the cat's pajamas, the bee's knees, the berries. It is so good it should win an award. Oh wait, it did. Seriously though, this feature is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. It has the greatest seizure-inducing graphics that I've ever seen. Bravo, CCP, bravo indeed!
