Im really confused here if i have all the primary skills learned to be able to use a ship but not the secondary ones does that mean i cant fly that ship till i train the secondary ones???? Ive been looking at industrial, exumers, and battlecruisers and am saving to get one but need to know if i need to have both sets of skills trained first. Thanking you in advance (hopefully)

You need all listed skills in the req skills tab, whether they are primary, secondary, or tertiary

Not sure what you mean by 'all the primary skills' Each ship/skill/module only has 1 skill as primary, probably 1 as secondary, and sometimes one as tertiary. Those skills are required to use the item/skill/module.
Now if you refer to the things indented under those requirements, they are prerequisites to getting that skill in the first place.

Edited by: zenkai sozan on 27/07/2007 05:30:52 If a ship has a primary skill of Astrogeology III why would it have a secondary skill of Astrogeology IV? If both are required why not just have the primary skill be Astrogeology IV?

Atrogeology III isn't the primary skill for the retreiver, mining barge III is. Astrogeology III Is simply a prerequisite for the mining barge skill.

Each ship has only one primary skill, maybe one secondary skill, and even one tertiary skill. The other listed skills are just what you need to start training those aforementioned skills.
IE:
Battle Cruisers 2 and Gallente Cruiser 4 are the skills needed for Myrmidon.
But Gallente Frigate 4 and Spaceship Command 4 are the prerequisites to training the above two skills, so they are listed too, even though they themselves aren't requirements for the ship. ---

You don't even need the prerequisites for all the skills, just the first one listed under each (primary, secondary, tertiary).
Example: If your charracter by some chance started with tactical shield compansation then you don't need to train engineering IV to use modules that require it, even if it show as yellow or red in the skills tab of the module.

Primary are for that ship
Secondary are for the class of ship
and tertiary are ones that are needed to run systems on that ship

However you won't be able to train a skill until you have all the pre-requisites skills. I think one of the more recent patches fixed the character creation bug where it was possible to have a skill but not the pre-req for it, so now it's no longer possible to have the skill but not all its pre-reqs.

Yes they fixed it being possible to start with a skill but not pre-req, but it is still possible to lose a high level prereq via podding.
