Edited by: Megasaxon on 12/04/2007 18:33:44 I've always wanted to develop some type of "near HD quality" movies you all know for some time now. I think this is as close as it will become because "True HD" in 720p the bitrate can be from 1.3 to 18.9mb/s which makes a short movie over 2 Gig's in file size. I don't think ya'll wana download somthing that massive just for a short 5 minute frag-a-thon. I couldn't use MPEG4 unfortunatily because my purchased copy of Sony Vegas 6.0 somehow got its key stolen from a generator, o well.
I did 2 tests that I would love to have you EVE-O-FORUM nuts rate to which is better! The first is done in Windows Media Player 9.1 Codec. The second is compiled with XviD HD. Please Post with thoughts, suggestions, and some insight to help myself and others create as close to perfect movies as we can without killing download time!
TY CHIBBRA FOR HOSTING MY CRAP ALL THE TIME! EVE-FILES 4TW!
Filename: test1.avi Size: 334,145,536 bytes Codec: XviD HD @10,238kb/s Time: 4m:23s Time of Compression: 55m:10s
Filename: test1.wmv Size: 402,935,263 bytes Codec: Windows Media 9.1 @13,458kb/s Time: 4m:23s Time of Compression: 35m:42s
I made them somewhat enjoyable as they do have PVP in them, also some weard yet funny SMASH logos!
Edit: Fixed Windows Media bitrate.

You don't need that kind of bitrate.
Using my encoding guide, you can get basically visually flawless quality at about 4000kbps using H.264. And the video I've encoded as a sample there is above 720p anyways

Using my encoding guide, you can get basically visually flawless quality at about 4000kbps using H.264... and that's at 1680x1050, well above your resolution.
Xvid and WMV9 are not good enough codecs for high-quality HD if you want to distribute the video over the internet. They're just far too inefficient.
H.264 is great for super high resolutions. NOT FOR somthing I can only use. How bout you actually watch the movie before you comment like that. Also the prosses it takes to run the movie is huge and the time to compile takes forever. Id rather use somthing more compatable for everyone than just use a high tech supercodec that can crash your pc at any given time.

What I'm saying is that 13 megabits is not practical for any EVE video, ever, and is a waste of Chribba's bandwidth when you can do just as well with 1/3 as much.
I don't need to watch the video to know that you've encoded it with far too high a bitrate. I'm downloading it now anyways.
Oh, and what do you mean by "progressive scan"? All EVE videos ever made, as far as I know, are progressive scan.
Quote: Also the prosses it takes to run the movie is huge and the time to compile takes forever. Id rather use somthing more compatable for everyone than just use a high tech supercodec that can crash your pc at any given time.
Uh, what the heck are you talking about? H.264 is faster to encode than WMV9 if you use simpler settings.
And once I read the part about "crashing your computer" I realized you were making everything up.
I'm just saying that it will NEVER be reasonable to use 13 megabits as a video bitrate, at least not until fiber-to-the-home connections become standard.

most of the eve movies you see are not true progressive scan, they use a emulation. i used a true progressive scan. there is a MAJOR difference.

Wait, so by giving you good advice and helping you avoid getting your videos deleted from EVE-files, I'm being rude?

Edited by: Megasaxon on 12/04/2007 19:28:57 meh, the fact that i'm not in the best of moods is one thing, however i have tryed H.264 with what i use and to be honest its not the best of things. and yes there is flaws with lower bitrates, i didnt want any artifacts or any lost frames.
sorry about before. call it my smash-smack session.

That's fine. I can deal with smack.
If you're getting artifacts at lower bitrates you should check your encoding options. Make sure with Xvid you're using Advanced Simple Profile, VHQ4, and the highest precision motion search, and with WMV9 you're using Advanced Profile (VC-1) with Best Quality mode on.

Edited by: NightmareX on 12/04/2007 21:41:01 Megasaxon, take a look at THIS movie from sisi that i made some few days ago. You need VLC media player to watch the movie.
This movie is converted with the x264 (H264) codec at 2000 kBit/s, and it's with sound, and it's only taking 64 MB for 4 mins and 20 sec. The resolution on the movie is 1400x900. Took me around 15, max 20 mins to convert the movie from raw fraps to .mkv. And i did use the Gordian knot program to convert the movie.
So i'l prefer a movie that are converted to .mkv with x264 (H264) codec over an .wmv or .avi movie.

Ahh NightmareX. I did watch and was impressed. However there isn't that many out there that can play a .mkv file or i like to call..."dotmegakickassvideo" file type. I use that for professional stuff more or less because it's my equipment playing the file/'s. Thanks for the insight!

You can also use .MP4, which is playable by basically all modern media players (VLC, mplayer, itunes, even the Xbox 360).

Edited by: Ryysa on 13/04/2007 10:59:50 I really wonder what op means by "progressive". As DS stated, all data captured with fraps will always be progressive.
If you interlace it later yourself - that's your fault. There have been some interlaced videos because probably people who encoded them don't know that much about encoding.
And I don't see how you could "emulate" progressive scan. There are methods like 3:2 pulldown, motion compensation, etc to turn an interlaced source into progressive, that's true, but since eve source is progressive to try to "emulate" progressive from it, one must interlace the eve source and the de-interlace it. Why someone would do such a thing is completely beyond me.
Oh and, things like x264 are pretty much the future - they still need some work, but all the crappy ASP codecs will get phased out by high profile AVC fairly soon.... At least for newly encoded data...
Btw DS, you should stick that guide of yours into your sig. You have forum whoring lvl10, it would get a lot more visibility then

Because bandwidth is very expensive, and a 20 minute video would be about 1.2 gigabytes.
If everyone did this with their videos, EVE-files would need to pay a few tens of thousands of dollars a month for bandwidth.
