Hey All, My buddy and I are looking to try some ninja salvage ganking ships. From what I understand the scenario goes as follows:
- Scan down and find battlecruiser mission runner
- Steal loot from mission runner
- salvage boat has ECM and Warp Scrambler
- Mission runner attacks salvager
- Salvager jams and scrambles mission runner
- Fleet partner warps in with PVP destroyer
- we kill mission runner, finish salvaging, and loot the mission runner
My fit questions is this: What kind of cheaper Amarr PvP ship and fit would you guys suggest for me to run as the ganker? My goals are: 1) Cheap - I plan on dieing a few times as I learn the ropes 2) Amarr - these are the ships I have skills in 3) Needs to take down T2/T3 missions runners
Is this possible? If so what would you use?
Thanks, Sim

If they are doing L2 in frigates, I wouldn't bother because they know what they are doing and more than likely will not fall for your ruse.
For L3 missions, you will probably face faction cruisers or battlecruisers. If you want to bait them into fighting you, your ships are limited because if you seem capable, they will not go for it. For instance, dropping into their L3 mission in a cruiser will probably not get you the desired results. They will see the cruiser and just bug out. I would suggest a T1 frigate for this.
I would have suggested the Griffin until I saw you only fly Amarr. That in itself is a limit since you could put ECM jams on an Amarr frigate but your results will probably suck hard. Only real newbie pilots would fall for that.
If I would choose a ship, I would either go with the Maulus Navy Issue or the Griffin Navy Issue (which neither are Amarr...the Amarr one sucks).
So I would honestly suggest expanding out from Amarr if that is the road you want to take. |

What about a T1 industrial? You could fit a Nereus with Salvagers, Tackle, Tank and ECM Drones. It's dirt cheap and newbies salvaging in T1 indis isn't that uncommon now as alphas can't fly the noctis and dessis have not much cargo space. Even some vets may shot a T1 indi? |

Hm. okay, here's the thing. When you do the swiping of things you'll get a suspect timer, which lets the runner attack YOU without Concordokken. Even if the mission runner attacks your ninja ship he's only going to have a limited engagement with just that pilot. This means your buddy wont be able to attack the runner without losing his ship to CONCORD.
Some tips that might help out a bit. Have your buddy do the scanning and fit your 'salvage' ship for pvp. Don't bother with ECM as you're going to need those mid slots for other things. DO fit a scram, you're going to need it. As far as ships go, I'd stick to t1 frigates to get started. Unfortunately Amarr isn't probably the best choice for this because you're going to have difficulty breaking most tanks when it comes to mission runners. Gallente is best; a well fit incursus can push 200 dps if I recall correctly and has the mid slots for a scram, afterburner and a cap booster. Use low signature radius and high transversal velocities to your advantage, particularly against ships using medium or large guns.
Now, for your buddy. As stated, he's not going to be able to outright attack without the space pigs savaging his airlock... BUT there are things he can do to get into the fight. Remote reps. Have him fit remote armor reppers to whatever he's flying and he can assist you in that manner. It WILL generate a suspect timer for him, but the victim still has to choose whether or not they wish to engage him. Hull and fitting of course will be to taste, but in his case ECM might not be a terrible idea because if he's flying anything bigger than you then he will be the easier target to take out.
Another tactic I've used and seen used in the past is for the scanner to hot swap ships in a safe spot. Scan down target, hop into murderboat and warp to victim. It works, but best to use cheap scan ships if you do because someone can always steal your bike while you're out getting your sexy time on.

But the mission runner could always come to his sences and just warp away while you swap ships, right? |

OK, thanks. No baiting on a week ship and killing with the murderboat then. |

Misdirection is helpful. Best to use a murderboat that looks weak but isn't. Frigates tend to not raise too many suspicions. Plus, there is the extra salt factor that comes from just pummeling the crap out of a faction BC/BS with a tiny ship. I've dropped a Kronos with an Ishkur before using this kind of technique... he was sure he was going to win right up until about five or ten minutes after I finally got him in scram range.

Let me get this straight. You want to Ninja Salvage L3s?
Waste of time and effort.
There's no real isk to be made salvaging L3s. Even salvaging L4s isn't what it use to be. L4s are best just for the LPs and the bounties.
Just do the L3s yourself and then salvage your own loot. Just so much easier, plus you get LPs and bounties.
