Chicken.
Good call, though. I'll keep whittling away at 3day+ skills when I'm not actively playing until EVEMon is back. Thanks!

Haven't you noticed when there's a patch day that the forums et al. are down as well. MyEvE gets it's info from TQ, so, if there's a fix/change that causes MyEvE to pester TQ a bunch it's good to delay the fix/change.
edit: That & the fact that thousands of EVEMon junkies will be swarming the character page when it comes back up will probably put a heap load on the TQ database.

I donÆt care about getting money back for this service not working right now. I just want to know when we can expect it to be back up. I donÆt think I am asking that much, for a little information, but all itÆs said is it will be back up soon. I wander what they mean by soon. For me thatÆs a couple days, max. So please let us know whatÆs going on with this one little bit of your service.

EVEMon fetches the data once per hour so its justthe usual load kicking back in over that one hour. ___________________

EVEMon hits once an hour, because the website caches the data for a full hour. It won't hit the TQ database more often than that for one character.
If you've ever pulled down the XML version of the character data, there's a timeInCache (how many seconds since you've pulled the data) and timeLeftInCache (how many more seconds must go by before you'll get an updated character sheet) near the top.

I'm guessing it's got todo with the Corp name, alliance information gathering plus a bunch of other information behind the scenes which is tied to TQ. But it's a guess on my side ___

Good call really, and I'd like to add; not only was it nice to be informed and get an ETA on a fix, BUT someone actually thought ahead in terms of when to apply the fix.
You should be promoted mate.
Oh and to people wondering about load on TQ, where the hell do you think the info about your character comes from, seriously?

Hey...
My Char is still up for me... so is the XML sheet... EVE Mon works... the whole kit and kabootle. It hasn't gone down for me at all. Updates skill training every hour. I'm totally down with that though I like being special. But I don't know if it's important to the web guys.

NATE D,
Building on your good fortune. Hows this for damn wierd.
Have 4 characters over 2 clients all on evemon. 2 of em work and 2 dont. Wierd thing is the ones that work are not on the same account. And no it's not evemon running on cache cos I changed a skill and evemon picked it up. As soon as I try to add a new character on either client and then evemon, Evemon then tells me no account detected because of the character sheet being down ofc. But how the hell did it pick up the skill change? Bow Wow wow yippy ya yippy ya!!

Originally by: Amanda Wilkins Ok.... and I suppose that is also why character portrait swapping results in an error? Somehow there is something a bit not-so-happy-feely about adding in your credit card details several times to get "an error has occurred". Wonder if it has drawn the ISK... ehm... Euro from my account all the times I have tried.
Completely unrelated. The My Account and other parts of the website that are located at https://secure.eve-online.com/ are unrelated to MyEVE (which hosts the character sheet, forums, etc). They share none of the same code. I know nothing about the former, as I'm the guy who runs the latter.
I recommend opening a petition if your problems continue with the secure.eve-online.com site. The GMs probably know what's going on or have status information about it (or can find out).
OK, I will have one more go at it today, and if that does not work, petition time.

EVEMon fetches the data once per hour so its justthe usual load kicking back in over that one hour.
From my recent observation of EVEMon, and less-current recollection from reading the source, when there's an error fetching the data it will retry in 5 mins, so once the page is re-enabled it will likely see a spike to about 12x its usual hit rate. I'm 99% sure that the page is generated on a schedule and not on demand anyway, and that the hit rate on it therefore doesn't translate directly to TQ load, but whatever load is caused per-hit would be (temporarily) increased by this outage window.
As someone who recently spent a number of harrowing weeks getting a new version of an 80M-hit/day web service to work without crippling the shared database and web nodes that it's hosted on, Garthagk has my sympathies. :)

I vote to remove the Character sheet and allow us to have a query that sends us results in an evemail to our account ingame.
Let us query our skills, our Journals our assets, If I am a CEO my corp member skills and location, lets me query corp assets and corp journal and send to my inbox.
Ingame is better and its application is a lower process than an high webserver process.
PLEASE a Query option

Just an update on the situation...
I'm making a few changes to the way the web site provides data to EVEMon and other clients. Instead of one huge XML file that contains all of the data which you can hit hourly, it's being broken down into two (for now, more later?) files with their own access times. One file is big and has all of the data but will have an access limit of 6-12 hours. The other file is really easy for us to generate and shows the current skill in training and can be accessed much more often.
I'm also implementing the ability for us to ramp up the traffic so we can ensure that we don't get a deluge as soon as the feature is enabled. For example, during the first hour 5% of users will find that their third party tools are functioning again. The next hour, 10% work. Over the following 24 hour period this will gradually ramp up to 100% at which point everybody will be working again.
This means that everybody who uses EVEMon and similar tools will likely have to upgrade as soon as they've released a new version compatible with the above changes. If you do not upgrade, you will find that the application will not be able to detect skill changes more often than once every 6-12 hours.
This is all scheduled to happen Monday. The programming changes from my side are just about done and I'm testing them now. I've also been working with the EVEMon team to make sure they have all of the information they need before the changes are made so they can try to stay ahead of the curve.
In case your eyes crossed reading the above...
We're still on track to have this functionality enabled again on Monday. You will probably have to update your third party tools to a new version in order to work optimally, though.

Garthagk has been very helpful in working with us to solve issues around bandwidth usage.
I'm making the required code changes to EVEMon now so that we can get a new version out for Monday that will be kinder to the CCP servers.
We're allowed to access the new currently training file once every 10 minutes per account, but the existing full xml file will only be updated every 6 - 12 hours.
Pros: Evemon will reflect your currently training skill much faster - within 10 minutes of you switching skills
Cons: 1) We can't confirm a skill completion for up to 6 hours 2) if you switch skills then EVEMon will not reflect the number of points trained on the previous skill for 6 hours
These are temprary issues until Garthagk can refactor the datafiles and give us 3rd party tool authors just what we need rather than a whole pile of un-mecessary data

That's awesome! I will admit it was frustrating to be without the online character sheet for so long. Evemon makes life so much easier wrt organizing training. But these sound like changes that are worth the wait.
Once again, thank you very much Garthagk for keeping us notified. It's much easier to be patient when someone takes the time to explain what is happening.

So we're going from a system that worked adequately after tinkering with it broke it to a system thats adversely different.... why not simply go back to the system that worked rather than producing more tinkering thats not guaranteed to solve the problem then solve actual issues like the fact the on site database and newbie guides haven't been updated in several months and are quite out of date.
Sorry to be harsh, but the old saying holds true, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Roll back to the backups simple solution.

The old system was harder on the eve servers than eve is.
The new system has the potential to be kinder to the eve servers AND better for the evemon users. Plus, CCP is making a real effort here to work with the tool developers, which will be a win for everyone... except Garthagk, because now he has to listen to me whine.
