I got pretty excited about the clone states in EVE. I even bought one of the few ships I could, being free.
But I was distressed to discover that no weapons appeared to fit the ship unless I have a sub. Is this correct? Am I missing something? Where can I see a description of what can be fitted/used for free players?
Thanks! |

You can fit T1, meta and faction mods. But just stick to T1 or meta atm, seems you are new to the game.
There are some T2 modules you can fit, so check the "requirements" tab in the "show info". But it should be pretty easy to see what modules you can fit as an Alpha, since the ones you can't will have a gold border and an Omega sign over it.
You can check the lower versions of the T2 items, by checking the 'variations" tab in "show info" as well. |

Any t1 weapon that fit your racial ships should work. What race are you? What ship did you buy? And what are you trying to put on it?
AFAIK the only weapons you can't use are t2 weapons. And weapons systems belonging to another race. (Only amarr can use lasers, only caldari and gallente can use hybrids and only minmatar can use projectile.) |

You can jump from one gate, to another gate, and then into the next system. This is the primary attraction of an Alpha Clone State. |

No, that's not correct. It's impossible for us to determine why you are unable, however. Not without some more details. Specifically what ship are trying to use, and specifically what weapon are you trying to put on it? Could be you're trying to fit a frigate with battleship guns, for example. Or since you're Minmatar, you can only use projectile turrets, and not hybrids or lasers. You're a 2015 character but there's no telling how much SP you have - could be you're trying to use medium projectiles but you only have enough SP to use small projectiles. |

Pve is the most expansive alpha option. Some level 4s are easily doable in a gnosis which is decent money if you out in the time and learn to do thek quickly stay alive. T3s will be much faster and easier to do tho. This is what I'm doing.
Exploration is easily doable, you can make good money depending on what sites you find and where you go. You can make big profits for small ships that dont cost alot. I have done much frigate stuff in low or null sec but I've done high sec combat stuff and made good money.
Mining don't bother venture sucks and you can't do anything with it by yourself worthwhile unless you have a fleet boosting you. You dont even get t1 mining drones. Its a joke.
PvP/fw success depends on you i guess. You can join a group and fight. I'm not much of a PvP guy so dunno on that front.
Industry haven't tried much of. Hauling options are limited with small cargo bays under 20kish unless you're gallente. I dobt think there's many limits on what you can build if you can get a hold of the blueprints, just skills to speed it up I think. I built a cruor with a bpc I got in an exploration site and that's a faction ship. I can't fly it but I can build it and sell it with no problems.
If you save alot of money you could try trading buy I've never tried that. |

Having fun is free!
All it depends on is you, and what you choose to do within the limits of the F2P.
If it isn't enough then sub.

Thanks! How to see what weapons you can use: Board ship. Click Fitting icon from Neocom menu. Click Browser (wrench) icon on the left of the fitting window. Choose filters there: Skills. You should get a list in Turrets and Bays lower under the filters.

My Alpha character is having a lot of fun doing PvP.
There are several major alliances & corporations that are accepting and training Alpha characters.
The can't do (well) list is short: manufacturing, research, planetary interaction. Otherwise the only limit is your mindset. |

You have to get ship with high slots available to fit weapons if you want to use them, also you should learn skills to unlock additional weapons.
Okay thanks!! I'll do that. :) |

I have a nicely skilled pilot, and I mainly ran T2 mining barges with all T2 mods when I used to sub. I've played on and off with various pilots since 2006.
Anyway, I'll take a closer look at Alpha and what I can turn up! Thanks! |

You can be fodder for paying players. No wonder they are trying to sell this sinking ship. After 15+ years only 40k online globally, probably half of them bots.
Gameplay is horrible. What would be best for the game is they fire everyone who works at CCP and give it to a competent game developer.
A griefers paradise with no meaningful way to punish them. |

Nobody is forcing you to stay on the sinking ship. Oh, and try to make a game with 40k people online that survives longer than 10 years, then talk.
It's so easy to point with the magic wand from aside...
Sometimes I wonder why do I still dwell within the sewers of the forums that is GD.
To OP: You can play long enough to get a feeling of the game and if you like it, to upgrade and experience it at 100%. |

Limited I am, didn't experience the rest. Are you sure only your clone-state is responsible for your feelings and failures?
They say Alpha clones are only for trying stuff. I say it's just the Hard Mode.

Use your unlimited trial to figure out if you want to play this game or not and if you decide for "yes", pay for omega (so you can actually do things without being severely crippled).
This is my main character. He spent around 5 secs total in the game and now he plagues the forums wondering when he will get banned.

What I did: Play all four races as Alpha and train what I liked best as Omega. Guess that is more or less what Alpha is meant to be for anyway. Unlimited trial. I trained my Omega account into Drake/Gila and I still play my Alpha accounts when I want a change and fly a Trasher or Omen. The Gallente Alpha is quite good as a hauling alt too. |

I'd agree it tends to be more like an unlimited trial than anything. Though I think the restrictions are actually a good thing for newer players. A new player that doesn't know the game really doesn't have much reason to be using(throwing away) ships and mods outside of T1 and navy.
I think it'd be nice if alphas could use battle cruisers and battleships though. T1 of those don't get much use these days by experienced pilots, it'd open up a bit more content to alphas(at least on the ratting and PvP side) and give them some longer skill trains to work on. And the loss potential involved still isn't that bad when you figure in insurance. |

In general, playing as an alpha character with maximum alpha skills, you can fly tech 1 frigates and cruisers of your primary race, with tech 1 weapons (plus some additional variations, such as meta and faction versions), and a range of tech 1 and 2 support modules.
You can see what modules your skills will support by right-clicking the skill in your character sheet and choosing Show Info. The "Required For" tab will let you pick a skill level and see all items that require that skill level or better.
You can also see what skills a particular item requires by opening the item's Show Info window and looking at the Requirements tab.
The Eve University Wiki (a very informative site operated by the Eve University player corporation, not CCP) recommends fits for most basic ship types and fits that do not require tech 2 weapons will often be usable on an alpha character with a short amount of training at most.
