Was wondering if it is possible for a frigate or maybe even a crusier to last long against a BS, (assuming BS was fitted for long range setup). Was wondering if I was very fast and could get to within say 2000 meters of the BS I could orbit and hang around for a bit. I see many people flying BS in PVP and my skills are not good enough for me to go BS to BS just yet. Was thinking I could tackle in something small and could hold out for 2 or 3 minutes while I called in help.
Anyone have any exp in this?

You can easily survive most BS in a frigate if you know what they have fitted and set up accordingly. But apart from orbiting them and possibly warpscrambling them, there's not alot you can do, and eventually those drones'll getcha.

it is possible.
if the bs has drones on ya..then u will need to take them down quick whist orbitin the bs at high speed.
as for takin the bs down...it aint gona happen..unless the bs pilot is complete muppet. his tank will absorb any damage u give without even breakin a sweat....but it wud be possible for u to avoid his fire if u knew wot u were doin.

Stage one: BS webbs you(very low trans) Stage two: Drones Stage Three: Guns openfire Stage Four: can't kill pod from lock time.
Main reason is.. test how much dps you would go to a omni tank.

Gissti hawks, harpys, and jags can usually stand up to long range BS's pretty well.

I used to fly a harpy with mwd and some speed rigs, did 1500 m/s. This ship's sole purpose was tackling large ships. Its dual range bonuses made it good at it. Nice orbiting your target at 28 km with a warp scrambler and a shield booster. granted, em resists are low, so you have to pick targets carefully. the antimatter charges hit at 28km just fine and no battleship save nano-nos ones were able to kill me, but those are overpowered anyways.
The drones were not a problem. The harpy would pop the battleships drones pretty much instantly.

I'm not looking to do any damage to the BS, just want to be able to lock it, web it and call for reinforcements.

You could hold one for about 2 minutes or so at the longest. assuming you can stay out of web and nos range. best bet is to scramble from more than 20k k away so all you are really worried about is drones while reinforcements arrive. if you get webbed or nosed, end of story. Being on the other side of that, I typically have 2 dampener II's on my Raven with two high slots devoted to nos and a bay full of ECM drones and precision cruise missiles just for the random tackler that wants to do what you are looking to do. Pretty much my ratting BS in 0.0

It's difficult to keep a point on one of these ships if its fit for pvp.
Heavy Diminishing Nos
or
Heavy Unstable Neut
both hit out to 25km and will both *****your cap to the point where u can't mwd.
Most BS can fit atleast 1 flight of light scout drones. 5xWarrior II -vs- a capless frigate is a slaughter.
To not be nossed or neuted you need to be 26km+ away at all times which means you need something expensive like a Domi warp disruptor OR someone in a Command Ship running gang mods with good skills to boost your disruptor range.
Most practical way for frigates to tackle a BS is to have 2 or 3 ceptors make straffing runs just inside of their disruptor range and put the point on then fly off.
2 or 3 pilots can keep a target pinned down and never be within range long enough to die. |

Stage one: BS tries to nos you, fails because you are disrupting from 29 km Stage two: Drones are out, to bad you are doing 11.5 km/s Stage Three: Guns openfire, completely missing you, while you kill off some drones just for laughs Stage Four: Gang warps in, the bs is dead
