Well, regardless of the use, you need to train missile and engineering skills. Get 1 mil in missile skills and you are well on your way to being ready to get into a cerb. Before that would be too soon.

Really, its not complicated what skills you need.
Its a HAC, soo...
Racial Cruiser V HAC IV Heavy Missile spec (or HAMS, cerebus can make those go sooo far) IV Missile Support Skills IV Mininum Shield Skills IV Mininum
Just right click, show info, drop everything you want on it into quickfit, drop the skills required into evemon, and hurry up and wait.
Actually... HAMS on a cerebus could be damn fun. Double range bonus means you easily get them out to 40km (javelin out to over 150km), throw on a gistum A-Type medium shield booster and two CC rigs and you can run the tank forever with 80%+ resists on everything while spewing out 350 raw dps. 2.93 second refire rate on the HAMs XD

The best skills for a Cerberus pilot would be Battlecruiser skills to fly your drake instead. The only two advantages a Cerb has is speed & range over a drake. Both can be mostly made up for with rigs or mods. If you want more speed you can easily fit an overdrive or two on the Drake and you'd still tank better in most cases. If you want more range you can use rigs to increase your missile velocity and get nearly the same effect as the Cerb but with a much stronger tank and much higher DPS.
Think of it this way. The drake outperforms the Cerb in basically every way... and can be made to nearly equal the Cerb in the two ways it is slightly behind. Then realize that the Nighthawk outperforms the drake in absolutely every way. Nighthawk > Drake > Cerb.
But by all means, keep aiming for that Cerb if you have your heart set on it. I did too at one point. Until I realized how crappy it was compared to my Drake. I just repackaged my cerb and sold it asap... biggest disappointment I've had in EVE. I really don't understand why anyone flies the ship anymore. Before the Drake it had a purpose (albeit a limited one), now....

you need cruiser 5 for a command ship anyways, so might as well train up for the cerb on the way. the one command needs the heavy assault ship skill, and the other needs the recon skill (i think). either way you need cruiser 5 so that gives you about a month to figure it out

You also need to train up pretty much all the the skill under Engineering except for the capital skills and the energy pulse weapons skill.

Depends what you use it for.
I bought a Cerb but somehow expecting it to suck compared to my passively tanked Drake. But now I use it all the time for Guristas missions (granted, mostly level 3, which is overkill).
Against thermal and kinetic the Cerb gets insane resists with two additional named active shield resist mods, the DPS is only slightly under that of my Drake (will prolly even out when I get my HAC skill up further and put rigs on the Cerb).
And with low sig radius and higher resists it does better IMHO against Guristas than the Drake. Add to that the range to finish every "kill this structure" mission from warp-in point, and enough speed to kite most ships at ~100 km while pounding them with missiles.
For all missions that require all four resists or a lot of EM resists, I get the Drake out of the garage though. --

this was indeed useful, just not like all the other ppl posting this and that. A cerb is nothing special, its a missle boat, so you fit missle, HM or AML, therefore you need missle skill, the more is better. The type of missle should be chosen by the enemie your enganging, or is likely that you are going to engange. Its caldari, its shield tank, so you probally need shield tanking skills. Which doenst mean that you cant armor tank it. Low slots well its a shield tank and deals out damage with missles, so BCU II and PDUII come to my mind.
So iam enforcing this dude to make his own mind up what skills are needed, by simple saysing, u need this and that oh and that wont help in the long run.

I bought a Cerb, hopeing to replace my Drake... I'm currently selling my Cerb. doing lvl 4's in the drake is far far easier and safer, and cheeper if I loose the drake, which I havn't come close to yet. but the cerb has to run from many missions the drake sleeps through.
then I thought, maybe keep it for pvp... but why.. use the cheeper drake.. i'm currently working twards the NH.
