Hey, I'm using eve on my vista computer and it was working fine until just recently. Then it would only get the the pretty picture before the sign in page and just stop and shut down. I tried to reinstall it but it says that the disk must be corrupt or something. There was a post earlier on this where a guy said the right click the install and click "run as administrator" but that doesn't work for me. Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Run EVE as Administrator will fix the problem, it will also allow you to access the cache and or other folders that are hidden due to the UAC.
To the Above poster dont post anything if you have nothing helpful to say.

Korben, he wasn't wrong. Vista was just released. Those of us in IT refer to this as "Late Beta", simply because any new version of Windows isn't any good until at least SP1 comes out.
Anyone here would be well advised to steer clear of Vista until at least SP1 is available. I personally am planning on going from XP directly to Ubuntu linux and avoiding Vista like the plague.
So advising someone to steer clear of Vista is quite helpful. He's saving the poor guy tons of frustration and anguish.

Try disabling UAC. ________________________________ I can't stand lazy forum posters. They should be banned. |

Sigh... As he has already bought and installed Vista, telling him to steer clear of it is a mute point (he already has it). You can disable the UAC simply by typing msconfig in your search box then in advanced controls (the tab to the far right) check Unable User Administrator Control. Alternatively just run programs like EVE and Vent/TS2 as Administrator, problem solved.
My comment was valid. You both are not contributing any helpful information. So save your flaming of Vista for the tech forums.
Hope This Helps.

Is there any way to make a program "always" run as administrator so that you don't have to keep right clicking? I'm asking for a friend :)

Yes right click > properties there's an option under compatibility to always run as administrator.
Eve under vista keeps locking my system up might have to dump a copy of xp on ere and dual boot.

I'm an I.T. techy also. Have been for 11 years. I work for EDS at present. And i agree. Any version of windows is usually bugged to hell until they release the service packs, which dont always fix everything anyways, and sometimes cause more problems.
In order to enjoy Eve, i would also recommend remaining with your old OS, which i assume is/was XP. Another thing i would recomend also, if you havent already and you have the means to, upgrade to windows XP Pro. It gives YOU more control over your PC.

Person #1: How do I make my car's engine run on melted butter? Person #2: Er, you're probably better off sticking with petrol, you know. Person #1: Aw, but I've already bought 40 litres of Lurpack!
It's still a valid piece of advice --------

Had a very similsr problem myself when i first got onto Vista. I found that an automatic update upgraded my nVidia drivers for me, which EVE didn't like. So, once i reverted to my older drivers, EVE worked perfectly. Maybe give that a shot?

Im running Vista. Never had an error, problem, or hiccup running EVE on it.
I'd never though I'd find Flaming going on in a fairly grown up game like EVE.....
how strange.
Did the Admin setting work for you?

Having a lot of experience dealing with these things i have to agree, the OS won't settle until atleast SP1 maybe later depending on what issues they have, i'll be installing vista business at home later but its going to be nearly solely used to learn the interface and new locations for things so that clients who have had the misfortune of buying a vista PC can be supported.
In short its going to suck until its finished :) ---------

Vista is the only operating system i have installed and been able to fully use my pc without having to dload any obscure drivers or patches or anything it has ran, flawlessly since i installed it 4 months ago havent even turned my pc off since installing only a few reboots when ive had to update drivers. As for service packs where was windows 98se's service pack? dont recall it having one. And m$ have already said vistas service pack is a long way away as they are able to fix most of the small bugs with small updates from windows or microsoft update sites and arent looking at a service pack for at least 6 months maybe longer. I cant say that about any other os i have installed.

Fanjita,
Well..............Windows 98 SE was second edition - service pack 2 before they called it that. SP1 for Vista is available as a preview and contains approximately 100 fixes.
But how many of these will actually apply to a single computer?
Sample hotfixes:
929191 - IBM and Lenovo computers may take longer to start Windows Vista than computers from other manufacturers 929763 - Version 5.00 of the Mongolian Baiti font may be displayed incorrectly in Windows Vista 934111 - An update is available for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications in Windows Vista that addresses daylight saving time changes in 2007 934641 - A Toshiba Device Bay optical drive is not recognized in Windows Vista when you hot swap the drive or when you warm swap the drive
If you're using the 93.XX nVidia drivers try rolling back to pre 90 (87.42 are decent) as these have some known issues with a lot of stuff, and automatically update.
Give us more info on your PC!

I too have alway ran EVE on Vista and have not had any problems. Having said that it should also be said that 2 gigs of ram should be considered a minimum not the 1 gig that MS specifies.
Also nbot sure what difference it would make but I have heard that alot of Vista upgrades seem to have more problems that a full clean install of Vista just my opinion though.

Edited by: Xariouz on 17/06/2007 13:11:15 I'm also having problems with vista =( I installed vista yesterday, and now I can't play eve. all I get is a black login screen.... I tried every compatibility mode possible, I've tried to update my NVIDIA driver cause I used an old 81,98 driver which solved some problems earlier at xp. neither the new nor the old driver fixed my problem. I tried to disable UAC, didn't affect anything. I tried to run Classic theme cause I read the Windows Aero Glass messed up EVE for some players out there... I tried to disable the windows firewall (in services, so I disabled it properly), didn't work. I tried to run EVE as ADMIN, didn't work.... I added EVE to exception list at the firewall... nothing seems to work and I'm getting very frustrated...
Please help =p

make sure that you run both the install and the executable as admin doing just one or the other won't always work.
To all the people recomending against vista i happen to like it very well yes there are a few minor issues but i doubt the general user will notice most of the "problems." the only one i see most people seeing mostly is the NVIDIA problem most the new drivers cause severe vista crashes but thats a NVIDIA problem not a windows problem NVIDIA has yet to write a good driver. And also in case your wondering i have been running eve and other games off vista since release date.
