The "ball and chain" bought me this book at a discount store the other day. Has anyone read this? Was it worth the read? Just curious.
Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never.
Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

I heard it's good, but that could have been as much fanboyism as anything. Lore in EVE is nonsense, so if I were to read it, I'd pretend it's about something that's not EVE, just in case.

I have read and its ok
The only storyline i really liked was the non capsuleer scrappers who fly a very low level junk ship and salvage wrecks for a living.
they are at the very botttom of the totem pole living in the cracks. The vast universe with its factions and capuleers dwarf them. They have no access to anything high tec and they are barely keeping there jnk ship together.
I kinda think that the Eve experience should be more like this. |

It's going to come down to how much you care about EVE lore.. The book all by itself is okay'ish, nothing breathtaking, but nonetheless worth a read. Although you're going to enjoy it a lot more if EVE lore interests you and in that case I'd also recommend reading the sequel, Templar One.
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

I kinda think that the Eve experience should be more like this. Well, it was once. Before mobile tractor units and the endless nerfing of various loot tables. On a good L4 mission I can maybe (maybe) pull out 10-million in modules and a few million in salvaged components for roughly 45-60 minutes work. Hardly worth the effort. Heck, I used to contract my bookmarks out but couldn't even be bothed to at this point. You used to see Noctis salvage vessels everywhee you went. Now they're a glorified museum piece that stands as a monument to one of the golden ages of EVE.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Your opinion post adds absolutely nothing while only being detrimental to the topic at hand.

This should probably be under EVE Fiction... but no one would notice it there.

Templar One's much better than Empyrean Age. Story's tighter.
Also, Empyrean Age is...eh...
You will give a damn about the Retford crew but you won't be reading much about them. Instead, the narrative jumps all over to multiple characters. Tibus Heth storyline has that issue that is The Broker-Ex-Machina, there's that Gallente Federation pilot whose purpose in the story I still don't really get (seriously, is he ever important in the plot?), Minmatar were like 'slavery bad rawr rawr' all the way, there's a serious case of black-white going in there (seriously. Every time the Amarr show up they were doing that Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain routine. I don't mean just Karsoth, who is a total bastard by the way). The only real compelling part of the book is the one with the Retford crew in it but we don't really get to read about them nearly as much.
A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.
