What exactly about the Salvage Drone Operation skill was considered an exploit, such that its impending removal could not have been announced days ago, rather than waiting until after the patch?

Originally by: Missy X Okay, okay, so maybe you can run them with the same character. So what. Does not matter. Original point stands. Not in the spirit of the game. Yes, you could DO it. But just because you CAN do something, and that there is ISK in it, doesn't mean that you SHOULD. I know this is a hard concept for today's "x hours of my time shoud equal x amount of material gain in the game, or I'm not getting my value for money" gamers to understand.
This thread shows clearly, if nothing else, that so many transactions of these useless skill books have taken place, and it has become such a can of worms to work out who profiteered from what, and who was disadvantaged by what, that the best course of action would simply be to compensate no-one and wipe the slate clean. Don't you think?
So, what exactly was not in the spirit of the game? There was a post in the forums explaining how to do this, yet no dev or CCP representative posted in that thread to indicate any part of following its directions was considered "not in the spirit of what was intended".
Obviously CCP found out at some time or another that the book was now available, and how, and after deciding that it was a mistake they did not take any action to notify folks about their mistake and ask people to stop using the method to acquire the book. If you want to point at something "lame", how about pointing at CCP's handling of this affair? It would have taken them what, 30 seconds, to post something on the forums or in the thread discussing how to get the book to the effect of "That skill wasn't intended to be released and it will be removed from everyone on the 1.4.2 patch". There, 30 seconds work, let's everyone know not to bother with the book anymore. Its not like there was something you could exploit if they'd told everyone about it and posted it in the patch notes *before* the patch took place.
So again, what was not in the spirit of the game? You could get the book via quest sequence that was in the game. The existance of the quest sequence was not some "hush-hush" secret that a few people were trying to keep quiet in order to exploit... it was publicly posted and up for quite a while. You didn't have to do anything unusual as part of the entire sequence in order to acquire multiple copies of the book... and you actually acuired multiple copies of other skill books (some worth 1/2 million each) in the process... so its not like that one skillbook stood out as some sort of unique reward in comparison to everything else you got doing the entire quest series. The only unique thing about it was that it wasn't a skill that we can buy on the market yet. Sorry, that doesn't qualify in my books as "against the spirit" of anything... there are other skills that are not available on the open market and have to be acquired via other methods (e.g.: gas harvesting, etc.) so this just seemed like another one of those skills.
