I know this question gets asked, and my luck in finding answers has not been fruitful, so here it goes...
Carrier ratting in null, or C5/C6 WH sites for earning isk?
I know there will be some varying opinions on which one is better, but I am just looking for the general feel on it. I am getting back in the game and I am trying to figure out where to go. I plan on making isk to contribute to whatever corporation I become a part of.
Thanks for any helpful answers. |

Ratting in null is risk free, so you get to keep 100% of your ISK minus alliance tax.
WH corps might have less taxes but you risk PVP losses |

Looking for more risk ratting - Wormholes. No local, no scouts 5 jumps up the pipe, etc
WH's is where the isk for that risk is being done.

You make good isk in a wormhole. No, let me rephrase that. You make ZERO isk in a wormhole, but the blue loot you get and the salvage you get from relic sites can be sold for a very tidy profit.
However you need to bear in mind the following:
1) You always need to be able to scan your way back out. Sometimes wormholes collapse even when you thought they were going to be there for hours yet. And sometimes players collapse them on purpose. Like when they see someone ratting in their wormhole system. That means a probe launcher on your fit - which gimps your fit, or a mobile depot and a refit, which takes up cargo space.
2) Sleepers are TOUGH. A C3 can be done in a well tanked Gila, but you'll find yourself warping off once in a while. Soloing sleeper sites in a C3 takes forever. Which means you are exposed and vulnerable for a long time.
3) There is no local, which works to your advantage AND disadvantage. No one will know you're there unless they catch you on d-scan. Likewise you won't know they're there at all, because their scout/tackle ship is probably cloaked and will only de-cloak to point you.
4) Most wormholes nowadays have owners. They tend to object to neutrals ratting in their wormhole or travelling through their space. Do check killboards to see what kind of activity has been going on in the wormhole lately. If it's been 3 months since the last kill, you're probably safe. If there was a kill earlier today keep your eyes open.
All in all nullsec is probably much EASIER - because you get immediate isk from the bounties instead of loot you have to survive to make it back to the market. Nullsec has local, so you instantly know when someone is in your system. And nullsec has combat anomalies that can drop deadspace loot and faction rats that can drop faction loot. So it's a trade-off. Yes killing a sleeper battleship gets you about 10 million isk worth of blue loot. But said battleship is 5 times harder to kill plus you have to get there and make it back alive. |

I've done both, and null is far more consistent. Sure you'll occasionally get hot droppers that will mess your day up in null...but in a WH all bets are off.

Saftey is reasonably simple. Join a large WH corp and you'll find they are organised. You need a few pilots to do C5 sites so you get alts camping the wormhole entrances while sites are being done. If someone does come through then the people ratting will be informed and get safe if needed.
Its similar in Null, just pay attention to whose in local and watch intel channels intently and at least listen in on voice comms.

Any gang capable of taking on a C5 fleet and its logi had better be very, very prepared... there are easier targets. |

Seems like you want ISK.
Ratting is not really the best way to earn it in WH. And definitely not the safest!
Gas harvesting is where it's at..... run when sleepers show up and go to next site. |

Your isk/hour will be higher in null than in WH's. Because you can do it any time you want. Have an hour? Make 100-200M in null. In a WH that will just give you enough time to scan the new sigs and make sure the coast is clear.
Not to mention all the other factors that keep you from banking isk whenever you want in a WH, and put you at risk of going into the negative.
Dive into WH's for the thrill, mystery and isolation, not because you want to become space rich.

If all you want is to make isk ratting with a carrier while watching Netflix then null is better. But if you also want a little more risk, logistics, and whole bunch of other "funny" game related content, then wh is better. |

Sounds like you've only been ratting in a C1 or something. Blue loot is far more profitable than gas. And why run? Kill the guards for more money, especially at the C5-C6 sites.

I would like to say wormholes, but unfortunately when you actually look at the time taken, the risk taken, and the other factors that eat into the isk per hour equation, I am afraid the answer is null. Wormholes are challenging and fun but Null wins in this case. |

I've done Null and WH.
for me i find WH fits my lifestyle a bit better.
Sov Null is mostly easy street as long as you know to keep an eye peeled.
We are living in a C2 ATM and it's pretty easy.
PI in a WH is the easiest passive isk in the land.
PVP is there, sometimes gangs from connecting c4 show up and that's mostly bad for me, and high sec explorers well they are good for me.
I enjoy both, i'm not a huge fleet ops guy so i guess i enjoy WH just a bit more.
Cheers,
I am a miner, mission runner, and explorer...

thats not really true if you get core garrison sites in a c5 wh you can make 1.2b an hour running them most people use x2 carriers with fax support or a naglfar that changes fits every minute.
I personally like wormholes. cause in my time in wormholes i havent been told by someone what i can and cannot use, plus the isolation from seeing a fleet come in and smack talk is also a great luxury, only time you really need to form up while liveing in a wh is if a group comes to attack your citadel. or pos etc, or just camps a highsec entrance most of the time when i see people camping wh to highsec i let em do their thang cause they aint bothering me there doing me a favor and keeping all the highsec bears out :) |
