Heard in the dev chat, that people were hoping for another way it worked.
That made an idea pop up in my head.
How about making it so that a ships mass, is what is used to prevent a ship going into warp. Ie, a ship would use it's own mass to counteract another ships mass.
So if a 5000 ton ship was trying to warp away, and a 6000 ton ship was warp scrambling it, the ship would not be able to warp.
If a 3000 ton ship is warp scrambling a 6000 ton ship, the 6000 ton ship would warp away, but would enter warp slower.
Then ships would combine masses if more than one was scrambling a ship.
And suddenly, there would be a need for heavy tacklers.

Sounds fun. But doesn't make sense. you don't need tons of sand in an engine to stop it from turning. Scrams are EW weapons that impact how a warp core functions. has nothing to do with how big a ship is. Webs on the other hand make sense. Even within their description. Seems a billion ton ship shouldn't be impacted much by a 50k ton ship webbing it. ------ Pain is weakness leaving the body.

i'd have to say that it makes sense in both cases.. web and warp scrambler..
the current way a warp scrambler works, is by fuzzing the targets computer... which is just a plain sucky description... i'd more like the idea that a ships warp engine, is tuned to the ships mass, and can only fling it's own mass plus some into warp. Thereby if you attach your own mass to it, it will not be able to warp if you can make it go over critical mass.
True this might signal that webs and scrams could be the same, but i like to think that you actually use your scrambler to attach yourself in a subspace field, or merges your gravity field with the targets field, thereby holding it unable to warp due to too much mass...

Here is the problem: With NOS and web, frigs have become all but obsolete. Their only remaining viable use is as fast tacklers. If this idea is implemented, they will not even be able to do that.

i like the idea of a heavy tackler though. Big, fast lock time, quick, but barely any guns?

true it would almost make them obsolete... as it would require at least a few frigates to hold down a cruiser and bs's...
but i also think something needs to be done about frigs and their roles in combat... it's kinda boring that the only thing you can do is tackle..
perhaps implement some drones or other ships, that no bs would ever have a chance of killing, but that frigs can take out easily... anyways, not the issue here... not good to be derailing my own thread...
