Goonswarm, an Alliance with now 4000+ members, almost double as big as the 2nd largest Alliance, almost 10 times bigger as the feared MC.
I remember their beginning, where everyone laughed at them as they came in big swarms of tech 1 frigates. Not many saw them as a real threath, since quality was always more important than mass. But time goes on, and the mass was gains class. I remember when there were first infos about the Rokh (long before its release), Remedial gave orders to Gonnswarm-Caldaris to train for large tech 2 hybrids. The ones who followed his orders back then, should meanwhile have the skills to fly the mighty rokh and use tech 2 guns + ammo. It's not the alliance in tech 1 frigs anymore as some might still think. The main resource you need in wars is human capital, enough players online when you need them - and Goonswarm has that.
And while the Southwest and the North are losing their capital fleets to each other, that power in the east grows stronger and stronger, and it's only a matter of time, untill the the mass, which now has class (as they constantly train pvp and sps are growing anyways) will start a campaign for EVE domination, and who will be able to stop it ?

Because loosing between 5 - > 8b a day due to losses from bob and inflicting around 500m of damages = insta win in eve guys didnt you know? Just because they can fly battleships doesnt mean they have competent FC's or the fittings to use them properly.

Goonswarm are Goonswarm ASCN were ASCN two totaly diffrent things would you say the same thing if BOB had mass?
what let ASCN down was the lack of willing in its membership to PvP Goons are known to be overly willing and as we have seen from there progress there RL skill is increasing all the time
Personaly i wouldnt call them majour superpower yet i think they still have a little bit more to mature as an alliance but they are well on there way to being movers and shakers in the 0.0 scene
*edit* grrr forgot i just left my corp mods please dont nerf my post ^^

Yes, they have The Power of the Blob. Too bad everything CCP is doing right now is working to eliminate blob warfare.
Yes, GOONs are a force to be reckoned with. No, I don't think they're "an uber superpower of doom".
Originally by: Yakia TovilToba ...Untill [sic] the the mass, which now has class...
All I've seen them do is corptheft from one of our member corps and griefing a dead guy, literally. "Class" is not the first word I'd choose to describe your average GOON, sorry. I'd love to be proven wrong.

ASCN had big numbers aswell, but they were industrialists to big parts. They did a great job colonizing some 0.0 space, building infrastructure etc.
Goonswarm is diffrent. I had the chance to fight on their side in some battels. Of course this is not neccessarely representative for the whole alliance, but what i saw was amazing: they attacked no matter the cost, did not hesitate like others and count odds, did not care much about losses, they looked quite bloodthirsty to me. Sure they had bigger losses this way, but they caused much damage aswell, they achieved their goals and did not turn around if the odds were bad. And if you have big numbers, a strong will to fight no matter the losses and enough skillpoints to use ships well, this is a very dangerous combination imho.

One thing I've seen just by being around them are some of their ship configs. They may loose a few billion ISK worth of BS's in a battle, but to there members after insurance it ends up being 20-30 mill per ship. I really think that of all the major alliances, the goons are the ones who play this game most for fun. Unlike BoB or what we saw w/ the D2 split of eve being work. What can you say about a alliance that will go out after a get equally drunk (or even drunker in many players cases) no matter if they won or lost.

Edited by: boogaboob on 26/04/2007 05:53:36 Goonswarm is crude. Crude-
But effective.
And they will never stop coming.
Considering the amount of time the Goons have been ingame, they have accomplished a huge amount. BoB, in comparison, has effectively been ingame since day 1 in various forms, though not always conquering space.
Understandably, the Goons come off worse for wear when these entities clash. And yet they are never diminished. Rather, they are advancing, growing. and time is on their side.
When they arrived, we all laughed at them. Some still laugh. Some will always laugh.
And yet the goons will keep on coming. Coming, and dying.
And growing.
(sends a chill down your spine, doesn't it? In a year, the mature goonswarm will be finally kicking BoB out of their home, assuming their present rate of growth continues. YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST)

Myself and Lunas has fond memories of the goons, during the XZH battles.
As lunas will attend to, we would recieve reports of 100+ goons onroute to XZH a few jmups out, we'd form up on gate and they'd come in, massive battle, all goons dead, 1-2hours later, the next 100man goonfleet arrives.
This would happen constantly all day everyday.
Now, you think "thats great, loadz of PVP" but in reality you lose 1-2ships per battle, and slowly but surely they drain your fleet.
Damned good fun though, especially when you login, grab 5 guys and go harassing the huge goonblob. Goons i agree, don't seem to care about losses, which is damned annoying for their enemies as generally when you kill someone lots you expect them to get unhappy and gradually not to show up again, but the goons continue to show up in increasing numbers.

Yes I remember those tides. Horrendous losses for their side but everytime a wave was destroyed the number of Tec2 BS in our side was droping a little more, and Goons continued coming.

Whatever we all think bout goons, facts is that everyone knows that they dont give **** about losing stuff and for every goon you kill at least 2 will return within not too much time. I've been in quite some fights in which wave after wave we killed them all. until the next wave is just too big (1 vs 3-4+ in same class of ship) to handle and then we have to give wav. Sure its fun and yeh we do get a lot of kills but it will only take a little more time and some decent FC's to turn the inital fleet into a killing machine.
For the time being i enjoy killing them, over and over again...

I enjoy the slowly but steady increase of "officer" goon spawns near our space.
"Goons: Our wreck will blot out the sun. CoW: Then we will loot in the shade." :)
As it is a blobbing game for the moment, they tend to use to the max. We get MASSIVE swarm of t1 frigs. We kill them and 5mins after another massive t1 swarm. One frig does not pack too much firepower but there tend to be 100 of them. But lately they have been engaging us more with battleships and other "heavier" ships, so probs to them cos of that. Keep it coming!

But keep in mind that was when they were fighting in frigs and cruiser made from rat droppings. More and more goons are getting skilled and buy bigger and more powerful ships.
All the losses will get taxing on them, yes even them. I do believe that they are going ascn and in time that will cost them.

(*edit* I only read news about D2 being in trouble. Wonder, if the Southern Coaltion has already given up their plan to remove BoB from 0.0 for now and prepares for the day, when BoB comes to them. If it's wrong, then maybe someone should post, what the Southern Coalition currently does in that war and about their achievements during the last weeks. )
well as i understand it to fight these days of warfare you need a titan on your side. if your enemy got a titan and you dont. they can bring their supercapitals + their own blob. if you bring your dreads + blob. your enemy will just ddd your support and mince your dreads. so even if RAGOONS got tons of dreads, without support it is nothing.
example of the above is teh Fade fights. MC&co had support of orange species and were very successfull in taking out any form of organized defense cause the defender couldnt blob. as soon as d2 arrived and DDD around abit the battlefield was leveled out cause MC&co knew the potential of being DDD upon them. just the knowledge that your enemy can sneak DDD you forces a new playstyle.
my guess is the southern coalition is holding of until they can get 2-4 titans atleast to even the field so that bob cant bring a blob either. so my guess is that there is alot of shipyards in the south*****ing baby supercapitals. now the question is if bob will let em hatch or not but i guess that is 1-2month down the line, so to early to say as of yet. they prolly just getting started to build em after the last offensive.
also my guess is that there is somewhat of a cold war until the titans are sorta "balanced" the cap recharge with officer mods allowing titans to DDD and jump out within seconds. or even the remote DDD is prolly up for a nerfbat as those ships gets more and more "common"
i think it is very frustrating that ccp has given superb way for the richest playerbase to counter blobs but have not implemented any intermediate goals for skirmishes. you cant take away teh blob and not give an alternative.. but now i am just rambling.. my point was the great war isnt over i think it is jsut in a "Titan-pause"
