I'd say nighthawk is actually better suited for pirate lvl4 missions because you end up shooting 10005 cruisers & another 12345 frigs with almost no bs. Yes you can rig raven for smaller explosion radius, but... -------- I tanked D2 capital fleet and all I got was truncated Erebus mail.

Passive tank Drake works pretty well if you have very good skills. I've used mine for about midrange level 4, and it isn't as well equipped as it could be; for example, the shield extenders aren't tech 2, neither are the launchers or the PDS, and it has no rigs.
Im my opinion a fully pimped-out Drake could probably take any mission at all, and fairly quickly at that, with the possible exception of Vengeance - the end boss in that is HARD.
The other thing about a passive tank is that it doesn't take any management at all except for choosing new targets; just spew missiles until they're all dead.

i'm actually using an active tank'd drake with resistance rigs. don't come across many missions that I can't do. all t2/faction fit well 1 faction mod... and it's working fairly well.

Agreed. I fly vs guristas a lot, so I fit 8 350 rails instead. And can this ship ever tank. So what if everybody else hates it, I love that bonus.
Hyperion 4tw! Krav P.S. raven can still mission faster than my hyperion, however. I just can't seem to find a way to best missiles, so the raven's always got an edge at killing npcs. Oh well, at least I have fun flying a hyp instead of grinding missions with a raven clone. =====

i just trained for a raven tho i havent dont lvl 4s yet.. but im gonna use it to get used to it :) after that i might keep using it for missions where shield tanking is better off, else i might use my main shipline, minmatars running a armor tanked ship
i dont know how much less effective a maelstrom will be in lvl 4s but all guns sounds like a pain. i`ll try it once i get rich tho heh

Heh. Don't bother, it is all the pain you can expect in a mish when using an underpowered gunship.

Took the end Boss in 8min with T2 Launchers and T2 Hvy's. Only time I use T2 Hvy missles is on larger BS's 2mil or greater.
I've done all the lvl4 Missions in my Drake. Never have had to flee due to low shields. Passive shield tank is where it's at for the Drake. To aleviate boredom I run a Cerb on most missions.

your Raven is still up there with the best of them, however a faction fit Nighthawk is arguably stronger.
Double-LAR Permatank on a Domi and Hyperion with it's amour repair bonus seem to be current gallente favourites. All the faction battleships are fun - Rattlesnake anyone?
Seriously, most rigged battleships now have no problems with L4's......and if you're Caldari you get the bonuses of missile spamming and range. With the disruption/etc another of my characters is training for a Raven. You know torps make sense.

Band of Brothers are selling one for 80 bil. As far as I'm aware it's still for sale. It's unique ship given out to the winners of previous year alliance tournament.
And about nighthawk being king of missions. If tanking ability would be the main factor Rattlesnake might be a bit better. What makes 'king of missions' is ability to tank just enough to do them without warpouts and dish out constant reliable damage from 0 km to 100 km. Ie - enough tank and good gank. Currently CNR is regarded as 'best' ship for them altho getting there might swallow some very serios isk (for 'the best' it's officer torpedo launhers, 2 target painters and faction/officer tank).

Nothing. It tanks better than CNR and does less damage than CNR. Only thing 'wrong' is that one does not need that extra tank as it's perfectly possible to tank em all in CNR so that extra 'gank' makes bigger king than extra tank. Maybe with lev 5 and lev 6 on horisont tho we will get new king for those with that extra tank. Altho on the other hand as you can use capital ships there so it's rather hard to imagine anything non capital to outtank dread in siege mode.

It takes awhile, and now and again I have to warp out, dock, recharge shields/repair a bit, undock and warp back, but I have done numerous lvl 4s in just my Drake. A little more than half the time, I can complete the entire multi-section lvl 4 mission wihout having to warp out. Since I have Heavy Missile and Heavy Missile Speicalization skills, and Torps to only 2, I actually do better in my Drake than I do in my Raven. But, then again, I am still a relative newb.

I attempted to go the Raven route after struggling to some extent with Typhoons doing level 4 missions. I essentially resigned myself to it.
Along the way to training towards better missile support skills and Caldari BS I realized I could now fly and fit decently and affordably a Drake. So I decided to get one and noodle around with level 3 missions that I normally do with a Jaguar Assault Frigate.
Now the training regimens for Caldari BS and better cruise missile skills are on hold indefinatly and I am using the Drake in level 4 missions.

CNR (or even standerd Raven) with a faction tank for the people with large pockets and little patience grinding highsec L4s or not minding the risks in lowsec. Either way, the best tank and overall best mission-specific gank that ISK can buy... and the more ISK you throw at it, the better it gets. Surely, you wouldn't like losing your full officer/gist fit CNR and then head full of crystals to a lowsec ganker, now would you ? Nice way to lose 5+ bil worth of gear.
Rattlesnake passive tank, for those that want the damage output of a Raven and the tank of a medium-grade faction-fit Raven without the lag-related capacitor death issues. Not the best thing to spend the money on, but pretty stylish. Not something you'd like to risk in lowsec/0.0 though, ship "uninsureable" et all (fitings cost next to nothing in comparison).
T2-fited standard Raven for the budget-conscious people in low-lag systems (you usually end up dead in case of heavy lag) that still want to speed-run missions. A good compromise, and GoodEnough™ for most people. Pretty feasable in lowsec/0.0 too, and you won't cry (much) if/when it gets ganked.
Nighthawk passive tanked (T1 rigs, T2 gear) for those that want the best bang for the buck (effectiveness vs total fiting cost), might not speed-run the missions quite like the Raven, but boy does it tank like there's no tomorrow (could even solo in lowsec with relatively low risk). I'd personally recommend this one as "overall best".
Drake passive tanked for those with less insane skills (hey, it's not "cheap" SP-wise to fly a NH), still a very good choice, especially in less BS-heavy missions. Extremely budged-conscious fitings, should come up to at most a 200 mil replacement cost in case of a total ship loss (and with as little as 80 mil if you don't T2-it-up to the max, but still do use rigs). Oh, and it's still better as a Cruise Raven in mission completion time. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |
