Like all multiplaye games, WoW is only fun with the right people there to have fun with. I started playing with a host of friends and this I had fun in wow for a long time. I trid all apsects and classes and ended up taking as a defensive warrior in Blackwing lair. I had fun while it lasted but really its all about grinding whatever there is to grind, from herbs for potions to reputation for that marginally better item..

I'll also add, WoW is great for the Role-Player. It can be very immersive(sp?). There is nothing like seeing Iron Forge for the first time. Its a very pretty game and you can get lost in its massive size. If you actually PLAY the game however, it gets very repetitive very fast.
That is one thing i do miss about WoW, in EvE every system is almost 100% like the last, minus a station here or another belt there. Differn't color background... but pretty much the same. Even the damn NPCs all look the same unless you are fit for very close range (A big, or little, red "PLUS" sign).
EvE is more fun to play, becasue there are infinitly more things to do (and i can do them all without creating a new character and starting from scratch) but its less fun to WATCH what i'm doing on the screen.

Exactly. That's what I did. Had a lot of fun with my friends, old ones that I knew already from another game and new ones from a swedish guild that we've been merging with. But after 6 months, when we were getting into the next raid instance, it was enough grind / started to feel like work and it was time to say goodbye. So I returned to EVE.
Anyway, it's not a bad game. I've tried a few other games of that fantasy genre (betas) and WoW beat them with teamplay and just more exciting PvE encounters. I was warlock myself and still remember, when I helped a warlock mate to get his epic mount. The fight against the demon horse and such stuff were designed with much love. That's when you think 'Wow !'
Like I said the game lacks in other areas, but when it comes to PvE encounters especially boss mobs, the Blizzard guys have really created something great and set a standard in my eyes. I don't regret my time there, I just stopped, when it was enough.

Edited by: Cosmar on 30/04/2007 19:41:48 I don't get why people compare WoW and EvE so much since they're so different games. It's like: "Civilisation is better then Starcraft". Well it may be but even though they're both "strategy", they're pretty different and aimed at different crowds.
Anyway as fantasy MMORPGs go it's about the best right now. I'm waiting for Warhammer to come as i got bored with WoW, but just because it got boring for me after 2 years it dosen't mean that for people starting out right now it's not a very fun game for some months. The game design and development behind it is rock solid even if it's on the simple side as RPGs go.
Biggest fault is the community, there's a lot of kids out there.

WoW is a very different experience from Eve in both genre and basic game mechanics. The quests (missions) that you are asked to do are your tutorial. They are relativly linear and will lead you from zone to zone. Your major choice in the matter is wether or not you want to quest in a given area or not. Ganging in WoW is a lot easier and unlike Eve you all get credit for the kills and if you all have the quest (which is sharable) you all get to finish it. One of the biggest aspects to WoW is that it is safer than Eve, if thats what you want. On a PvE server (player vs. Environment) you can wander about and the only threat are the npcs. If you want a bit more excitement you can try a PvP server but its an aquired taste as most of Azeroth is open to PvP and you will get ganked numerous times before you get to the higher levels. On a PvE server you can sit afk for a long time w/out fear of death if you know where to park your character. However, WoW is increadibly simple in comparison to Eve.

WoW is great fun even just grinding and getting new abilities and cool items. It's got the same addiction Diablo did.
However that only lasts until you hit the level cap, which does not take long. The fun disappears and grinding suddenly feels a lot like "work". __________ If you think the game is rigged, why are you still playing? |

If you can ignore the kids, WoW is a good game until you get to raiding.
Then its awful.
WoW is NOT CCP's enemy, WoW is EvE's best recruiter.

Man, you guys are all SOOO right. Those 8+ Million folks on WoW are SOOOO stupid, grinding away their days. We 30,000 EVE Players are the REAL smart gamers, and HUMBLE too.
Why would anyone want to grind all day and play with immature little kids anyway???
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a few thousand Missions and Belt Rats to go run and kill to have any money at all, and I REALLY need money cause all the Pirates out there just LOVE to blow me up, and I've lost my first twenty ships every time I stepped below 0.5, and while I'd love to do a little low-sec playing solo, I find that EVE tends to be boring as all hell if you're not a member of a 100000 person Alliance. And hey, talk about fun.....I shot a rock with a laser for 15 hours yesterday so I could afford a bigger ship with a bigger laser that can shoot TWO rocks at the same time. I'm really cruising now! Better yet, I flew 1000 widgets from A to B and it only took 5 hours and I made a killing, a whole 10,000 isk! Now, only 200 more days till I can learn enough skills to be competative in combat, well, competative against any other loser too smelly to be a part of previously discussed 100000 man Alliances, I mean.
And best of all, no forum punks to make fun of me, no one to criticise how I play, absolute maturity and understanding from the player base....and never, ever a cry to Nerf ANYTHING at all!
You guys are SOOOO right. EVE is clearly head and shoulders above WoW. The World just hasn't figured it out just yet......
(And for the record, yes, I quit WoW, and yes, I prefer EvE. But really, some of you REALLY need to get a grip).

Diablo is fun, wow is fun. Just bigger fun, with more people. EVE...it's work

And no-one above the forum-age of 15 cared. And we all did live in ignorant bliss forever after. Amen. [.CR.]

I admit that i play both games, and it seems I play in cycles, I played EvE for 4-5 hours a day, before and after work for a couple of months and its starting to get a little tiring playing it, now i often log in to check skill and see if i've sold anything on the market.
Now i find that I'm playing WoW mostly with a group of mates from work which is a lot of fun, I'm trying to hit 70, but often we'll all be sitting in Vent drinking whisky in my case beer for others or I think a couple of them drink vodka and just mess around while getting xp. Thats one of the good things about WoW even if you do die you don't lose XP, just a little money which is easy to replace, far easier then replacing a ship in EVE.
And since we all play on a PVP server if we get bored getting xp we just run along until we can find various alliance characters and kill them. Or we camp somewhere and kill alliance as they pass, OMG I'm a wow gatecamper or the nearest thing to it

Sadly I hear it is also very addicted so... ummm bye, and can I have your stuff?
the first step is admitting you have a problem...
yes, i spent 2 years playing WoW
tbh, i enjoyed it though. VERY carebear, and mostly just lotsa grindfests... but well made and enjoyable once you manage to find friends who aren't 12 years old and not being watched by their mommies.

Ive had four characters in eve playing over a three year period from the start of the game and every time i take a break/sell a character i ALWAYS come back.
i swear i get EvE withdrawl symptoms
Eve is just a better game than WoW, full stop.
