Edited by: F2C MaDMaXX on 28/04/2007 23:47:22 Just been watching some of the old/original videos of eve on the site here, and, noticing a couple of things, firstly;
1) The ship explosions were smooth ;) and in the really early ones, they kind of just imploded and a shockwave was sent out.
2) The missiles came from the front of the ships, still no launcher hard points like the guns, but they still looked better than just farting from the center point of the ship.
Anyone else see things in the old vids that appear to of gone slightly backwards?

Ithink if you watch really old video's ships actually took damage anf flamed in unique ways not tis just a standard flame at back of a ship when its damaged, by old I mean real early release or beta it was before I joined over 3 years ago.

unless you are into conspiracy theories (updating comp for new graphics update in less than 2 years?)
then its just the need for speed initiative where most people have bad comps and are too lazy / ignorant to know how to fix their graphics settings so they just reduced all that stuff for less lag.

you also need to rmeember back then you could catch ship explosions really well now the camera resets straight away making it harder to catch the boom well or as close up.

If you watch the lowest video on the page you see the typhoon looks wierd, and when that rupture explodes, it actually expoldes you see it come apart and you can see its individual peices fly away !! thats awesome I want that back.

Edited by: Dodona on 29/04/2007 01:55:53 They were definitely pushing the hardware when CCP started making the EVE client, so I'm not surprised that they ended up scaling it back a bit. Now, of course, these effects are no problem.
Since all of this is entirely client-side, I'm guessing we'll see even better with the new engine. The graphics team looks like they really have their stuff together - they always have - so its reasonable to expect a good show.

i liked the old U.I. The big red "stop ship" button. Being able to view your own ship really close up. Having dog fights at 40,000km. Not much lag in fleet combat. ability to outrun missiles. Or lock missiles. Torps on cruisers.
Its all gone backwards. But i still love it

Those were the days. Eve was better back then tbh. Simpler.
Then again, have to add new content to keep it expaning, it's just too bad the universe doesn't at the same time.

those ships actually breaking apart were awesome!!
It is ours, CCP stole it from us, they tricksed us... oh wait..
Anyway if you could please give us nice things like that, as well as shots missing when they do (instead of visually always hitting) and missiles exploding nearby instead of in the centre of the hull when they do tiny damage (further away for smaller damage - eg, torps hitting a small frig should explode a few km away if theyre only going to do 10 damage)
Also show shield effects when you are still hitting their shield, currently all shots hit the middle of the ship and torpedoes look like a nuke has gone off :\ It shouldn't look like that for the damage it does....way out of proportion. |

Some missiles have WAY too large a blast for the minor damage it actually deals, yeah.
Also, I've seen a few small ships tear apart really nicely when they die... even now. But just a few and just the small ones.
