Every 20-30 seconds EVE will lock up for approximately 5 seconds and the "catch up" to itself. Without fail this happens every 20-30 seconds. It is really frustrating. I cant figure out why.
Every other game runs fine. This is a top of the line PC for the most part on vista 32 bit ultimate. Drivers are all up to date and nothing is running in the background. I am running EVE and an admin and I've tried running in compatibility mode as well and it did not fix the issue. I also turned off chat logging to no avail.
HELP!

I had a similar problem. What helped:
- closing a max number of chat channels; - turning off "Log chat to a file" in game settings ("General" tab); - closing all anti-adware/anitvirus software before starting the game.
Hope it helps. -------------------------------------------------- Listen up! "Teamwork" means staying out of my way! |

I tried everything in post 3 but it still freezes up then resumes. It also does this any time I clock on a new menu or an item in the market while it loads the info for it.

I've seen similar problems on several different kinds of rigs. Ventrilo sometimes causes that "stuttering" problem with EvE. So it might be sound related. Try running on a different soundcard or turn off alla sound in eve and close down TS/Ventrilo and see if it helps. If it does, updating your soundcard drivers/motherboard drivers (if you'r using a on-board sound chipset). If you don't like what I say, just ignore it, or admit I got to you. |

It's either a virus scanner being aggressive or one of the M$ dual-core bugs. Search the forum for "dual-core".

I had something similar to this, but mine was caused by having the market window open and minimised and having Tritanium displayed. Everytime an order updated my system would freeze for a couple of seconds.

Its not another program running, there are none. Its not anti-virus as it happens with or without anti-virus. It is not voice chat software as there is none. Sound card is a Sound Blaster X-Fi, happens with sound enabled and disabled. This is a fresh install XP Pro machine with all updates and latest drivers.
It IS a dual core system, I have read many, many posts here about how to fix that issue with affinity and such to no avail.
There is NO reason that my system should not be able to run this game full out balls to the wall @ 60+ FPS.

When I run wireshark and eve, I see interestingly fragmented network packets.
I hope the Network Engineer can comment further on this (if its relevant or not) but I get stuttering and lag worst when the frequency of fragmented packets is highest.
Everyone seems to think its Video card related which I think is bad because you get people spending $400 on video cards when a $100 card is more than sufficient ;-)
Check out A better NIC article
This is what I'd be buying (seeing as I already have a $200 video card)

It's not the 3D rendering but it is the rendering engine - including 2D rendering code. And maybe the general object handling also.
In short, the client software is bloated and struggles to keep the game running smoothly - Decouple Client Interface from Network.

Nope, not if it's as regular as you are saying.

I had the exact same infuriating and frustrating problem... I tracked it down to over heating, I don't know of what but there you go, I suspect ram on either graphics card or mainboard, but then I know nothing. BUT!! cleaning out all the dust and adding some fans stopped it... this was after, amongst a million other things, re-installing XP..

This is most defiantly not related to overheating.
I'm curious... Of everyone experiencing this problem, how many of you are using Sound blaster X-FI sound cards?
I am starting to think that the X-FI card is the culprit (even with the most up to date drivers.)

I get the same problem. Every 30 seconds it freezes. I thought it was my ISP, so I changed it. Still happens. All my other online games have no problem. It is definitely an Eve problem. I run XP professional, and a 512 graphics cards. never been a problem before until recently

So, you've explicitly applied the above multi-core patch and disabled ingame sound?

Ah, I missed this detail. Looks like thermal shutdown. Check the CPU and GPU temperatures during the stuttering.
Btw: The 31% CPU usage is rubbish. Games always use 100% unless you've got framerate capped in some way. And in Eve this don't help much, it'll still use 100%.

Edited by: Skyphox on 21/05/2007 11:20:08 I had this exact issue... I suspected the Sound Blaster drivers for some reason. Everyone else I have seen with this issue have also been using sound blaster cards.
I reinstalled Windows XP and installed OLD Sound Blaster drivers. Worked a treat afterwards.
Of course, using Vista you may not have the option of old drivers. Hope ya figure it out, the stutter is a real off putter.

I get this exact problem on Windows XP, I freeze for about 2-5 seconds every few minutes its really annoying. I have a reasonable spec PC and decent internet connection so don't expect this. Going to try new Sound drivers for the Sound Blaster Audigy first and see if that helps. --------

It's way easier to test without sound first.
If that helps then you are on to the problem. If it don't help then you are wasting you time looking for possible updated drivers or replacement sound card.
