Howdy all,
This is probably a very noobish question, but I'm a returning Eve player now that it's F2P, and would like to run missions for the first time, ever really. (used to be a Hulk miner/Iteron trader)
Can't afford to pay for Eve at the moment, so the plan is to get up to L3 missions in a Cruiser probably. As far as I can tell, I can only fly Amarr Cruisers, even though I have 18M SP character that as an omega can fly battleships etc of various races.
I'm currently doing L2 missions in a Coercer.
Having said that, what would be a good ship to use for L3 missions? I have pretty good skills for turrets, missiles, drones etc, so that shouldn't be a problem. Am I stuck with either Augoror, Arbitrator, Maller, Omen? |

For L3, you should be in a battlecruiser actually, but it's not available to alpha, so a good idea could be to use a Gnosis, which you can fit pretty much whatever how you want to.
Cruisers will have hard times for the tougher missions, but a Maller is quite a tanky ship.

Thank you for the very fast response. Gnosis, interesting, I didn't realize it was a ship an Alpha can fly. Looks like a good choice, albeit somewhat expensive. Nevertheless, I will definitely get one, it seems to be quite flexible with regard to different fit-outs as well. |

Gnosis is the ultimate alpha ship for L3 missions. How is it expensive? It's only 1.5m ISK more than a comparable BC (for example Drake). |

Sorry, I meant Gnosis is expensive compared to a Cruiser. But yes, priced fairly compared to Battlecruisers. Would this be a wrong forum to ask for Gnosis fitout suggestions for lvl 3 missions? You can assume that I have all the necessary fitting skills already (pretty much everything relevant at IV or V). |

I think this works, but haven't personally verified against amarr alpha skills. if you want/need more cap it might make sense to drop a drone damage amp and replace with a cap flux. The eft dps looks best with 3/3 but real dps will be a bit lower due to drone travel time. Amarr/gallente alphas are lucky they get somewhat decent drone skills.

It is and it works like a charm in Level 3 missions. I might be the higest DPS ship for Alphas. I use a cap bosster for longer missions as cap is the only issue you might run into. |

It is cap stable, though consumes cap boosters. Mission specific hardener together with othe shield boosting modules gives you 220 hp/s vs blood raiders (change hardeners for other rats, but still better than 140 hp/s of original fit). A bit better optimal with same, over 600 cold, DPS. That ship will have problems vs angel cartel rats, but as drone boat it will still be able to adjust damage type to mission and be semi-immune vs damps or other ewar. Which navy omen will not be. |

This is what I use. I hardly need the Cap boosters as it runs Cap stable with the Repairer or AB on. (But when I need them I am glad I don't have to warp out but just eat a booster.)
350 DPS, good resists against EM/Therm, 300m/s without AB, 750 m/s with AB on, 100m Sig radius. Optimal range at 20 KM with multispectral, 40km optimal with standard and infrared is never needed because of Alpha skill target range limitation. I am never closer than 20 km. Drones handle Frigattes, but medim lasers hit most things that come straight for me. EDIT: Pricetag 100 mil ISK.

To be fair, as a special snow flake ship it has an incredibly fast align time, faster than some cruisers. So at least you can warp out fast.
This fun fact means the Gnosis is actually better at Alpha-exploration (if you want to do combat sites, too) than all other possible options, while Navy cruisers are better at Lv. 3 missions.
In the end though, the differences are small enough it comes down to taste/how much money you want to invest. The question is literally: "Do you like your Alpha's Navy cruiser more than the Gnosis? Yes/No" |

@Punisher,
A lot has changed since you last played I'm sure.
First off, you can be an Omega for FREE!!! You have 18M SP? So buy two extractors, extract 1M SP and sell them. Boom...take that ISK and buy a PLEX.
Here comes the free part....
Next month, do the same thing. You will forever be stuck around -17M SP, but will have access to all the Omega perks. Plus, you don't have to grind missions for PLEX and you will be making -300 Mil ISK profit after plexing each month just from selling your injectors.
Overtime you will become space rich and "grinding" for PLEX isk will become easy @100 mil ISK/hr. Incursions!
There is no reason to stay Alpha. Go fly your BS in level 4's like a boss. Go PVP, go back to mining in a hulk if you like doing that.
Welcome back to EVE! We've missed you! |

I typically like cap boosted fits, but on the gnosis with the cap battery tiericide it is just too easy to not do a cap stable build imo.
and ~400m/s is fine for a lv3 ship

Well thank you kind Sir Voddick!
What you are saying sounds far too good to be true, so it must be! :-)
So selling 2M SP would net enough for a PLEX, but the two extractors cost nearly as much as the monthly subscription fee anyway. Gé¼ 5.49 x 2 = Gé¼ 10.98 vs Gé¼ 14.99. And I guess there would be about 150M ISK left over after selling two injectors for a PLEX.
So I guess it's a matter of Gé¼4 saving for 2M SP...
Do I have it correct?!?
EDIT: I tried the Gnosis in a couple of Level 2 missions last night, as a warm up. Pretty nice, I like it. Very relaxing to do lvl 2 missions compared to a Destroyer, can AFK in the middle of it for as long as I need.... :-) |

you can do it all in game with isk. buy extractors with isk, extract SP, Sell extractors for isk, buy plex. it takes roughly 3 to break even. With max attributes and +3 implants you train a bit more than 3 extractors/month

Not at all...this is on topic.
save for 2 x +5 implants. Remap to those skills to min/max your training. It's 2,700 sp/hr, which is 3.85 extractors pre month, which is (now) 350 mil ISK profit for nothing. Literally. It's not to good to be true.
If you really want to afk missions, then get a rattlesnake with a goecko drone and drone durability rigs. That drone will have 10K + shields with MASSIVE passive regeneration. You can walk away and the mission will be done when you get back. |

I mean you give up a months worth of training every month, which is a pretty big negative.
also a pirate implant set that increases drone hp is coming soonGäó so rattler will be a ton of fun then

It is and puts out lots of dps from its bonuses which are level 5 equivlant bonuses to all damage basically. As an amarr alpha with faction ammo and regular medium drones i got about 530dps from it. If your willing to splurge on faction drones and different rigs you could probably get a bit higher but it will run some level 4s no problem as long as you check before hand what the mission involves.
It's ugly as **** but it's a solid ship with good bonuses and great slots so you can pretty much use it for anything. For not needing any skills to pilot it, it goes above and beyond on performance. However it's extremely slow. Like slower than some battleships.
So definitely invest in an MTU or find a fit you like with a mwd. |

Ok so I nearly have the 290M required for a Skill Extractor. Gonna buy one of those, extract 500k points of missile skills, sell the injector, buy another extractor, etc. After doing this three times and getting rid of all my missile skills (1.5M SP), I should have enough ISK for a PLEX.
Been doing L3 missions with the Gnosis. It's quite fun. I like to salvage with a Coercer Destroyer afterwards. I know it's not really worth it, but I like it because it adds variety to just pew-pewing. :-) |
