Read up a little about the agression mechanics and what people call 'can flipping'
That's so cute and adorable. The first can flip kill... *tear*... a new evil pirate scumbag is born!
EVE is pretty much defined by things like the ability to do a can flip kill. Aspects of gameplay that allow knowledgeable and skilled pilot(s) to outplay their opponents for big booms and (usually) rivers of tears (and/or piles of ISK).

Mara Rinn wrote:It's most encouraging to see your progress so far Roxwar wrote:My next question is, does anybody have any suggestions as to good systems for 1 vs 1 frig fights as Amamake is obviously not the right place for a noob to be flying while trying to learn. While you're a "noob" pilot, you might find RvB or Faction Warfare to be a better option. Safety in numbers, and you can bring skills and modules to the fight that will help everyone else even if you have very low gunnery skills. A tanky frigate carrying nothing more offensive than a webifier and target painter can work wonders. In terms of ISK income, check out the Making ISK guide in the EVElopedia.
RvB might be a good option actually, so long as it caters for noob pilots like me and isnt just a safe haven for 3 or 4yr old players who use it just to pad their own killboard to stroke their ego's. Thanks for the suggestion Mara, i'll go look into that right now :)
Was thinking also of starting a small internet blog/diary kind of thing, maybe record a fight or two on fraps, it might come in handy for any other new players like me in the future, just to show whats possible ect, or how not to fail spectacularly.
Might be an amusing reminder too in a couple or three years once i work my way up and become 'that guy' in EVE!
I can see it now - "yeah i remember that asshat from when he started out and was posting in the trials citizens forum" lol
Aims and goals, we all gotta have them in EVE right?

pretty much this. Though there is no "tears or ISK". Etiher you'll get tears (and no ISK, but tears are valuable anyway) OR you'll get tears AND ISK. (because well, whenever you get ISK, the previous owner will give you tears as well) |

RvB is a great choice. There are some high SP characters in the corp, but there are also plenty of very new players. The community is small enough that you'll get to know the pilots and their various skill point and real skill levels. As you gain this familiarity, you'll know who you can pick fights with and who you should run from. |

RvB is great fun and you will find fights 24/7. You don't get the same thrill of "the hunt" but it's still fun and a great learning experience. |

I've been playing EVE nearly 3 years. I'm currently maintaining 7 accounts. So understand the weight of that when I state that I enjoyed reading your blog.
You get "it". You will have a long and fun career in EVE.

Roxwar wrote:Hope so Phantom! My venture into Amamake ended as expected, but brought with it a few suprises too. First of all, i learned from it - always look up a pilot before piling in. 2 day old Vs 2005 pilot was never going to end well. But afterwards a convo as struck up in local between about 6 of us, many giving advice which is welcome and 2 of them even said they admired my man danglies for coming into low sec at 2 days old and having a good attitude to losing. So good infact that i recieved 2 lots of 10million isks from 2 other players, one of them being the 2005 player in the Buzzard that i tried shooting! Dispelled the generalised myth i got from the forums that low sec players were all asshats, they all seemed friendly enough to me. So, another Thrasher down but 20m isks up! Result! Back in a rifter this time and heading back out that general direction to see what i learn next

Thinking out loud here, i'm presuming purchasing ships and fittings out in low/null is not as cheap nor easy as it is in high, so would my best bet be to have my med clone in or near jita to account for the innevitable loss of my pod, just to make it easier to re buy a ship, fit it out and head back into low null? Or does that sound too much hassle and i'd be better off buying as many rifters and fittings as possible, moving them to a high sec system that borders low?
Only asking as im not familiar with the sytems and regions within EVE yet so not sure how easy/hard it is to get into low/null.
Sorry for all the questions but your answers are really helpfull!

Generally correct but there are a few systems in NPC 0.0 that have very good markets. G-0Q in Curse is an example, and HLW- (2 jumps over from G-0) is also a decent place to buy stuff. Of course these tend to be busy with players who will gladly murder you, so it's worth learning about things like insta-dock and insta-undock bookmarks, docking timers, how bubbles work, etc.
There are also hisec systems that lead directly into 0.0 (eg: Torrinos -> EC-P8R, Keberez -> HED-GP) or are very close (Nonni, Airaken), many of which are also trade hubs. Believe it or not unless there hard core griefers...
Most pvp'r are actually really good people.
They only go after you if you cry like a b!tch and cant take your lumps.
Clearly you can, and they recognized that.
You've learned two important things about pvp. First You lose ships when you do it regardless of how good you are.
Second you need a flow of isk to replace said ships when they are lost.
You want the big money, you do trading, plain and simple. Passive income like data cores and pi will trickle in over time,
But trading is the true key to wealth in eve.
Infinite Iskies = Inifinite Ships
Now go back to shooting people in the face.
PSSSST! Try can flipping in highsec... |

Well i guess this will be my last post in this thread as my 2 weeks trial is up today ( maybe tomorrow )
I want to thank you all for the comments, info and links you all provided for me, its very much appreciated.
I have broke out the CC and paid for a sub so i can carry on my endevour to look after myself and learn from my mistakes, and all being well, i'll be of some use to somebodys corp in the next couple of months or so.
I'm ending this thread on a high though, i just killed another rifter and his loot will pay for another rifter or two for me to lose. win!!
Thanks again all

OP, send me a mail and I may be able to find a place for you helping out with war decs. we could always use another tackler. And I know some other corps who may have an interest in taking a new pvp player in and showing you the ropes.
Its not too often that people get blown up in the first few days, and actually become intrigued by it. Most quit. but I can see you actually want to figure this thing out and do some PvP. ...Can't. Tell. If ...Troll? Or Serious.... |
