Edited by: Carniflex on 11/05/2007 07:10:48 I have been wondering what I could do to maximise my income from level 4 missions a bit more. I have 2 characters, my main (this char) with 30 mil SP (most of it in non missions related fields) and alt with 6 mil SP (almost all of it in missions related fields). Setups I use are
Main char (CNR) 7x Cruise missile II XL T2 Booster, 3x T2 hardener, 1x best named target painter 1x heavy cap injector(x800) 1x DG BCU 2x BCU II 1x internal DCU 1x type D sensor amp 2x CCC I 1x thermal shield res 5x medium T2 5x light T2 drones
Alt char (CNR) 7x Domination Siege launcher XL T2 Booster, 3x T2 hardener, 1x best named target painter 1x heavy cap injector 3x BCU II 1x beta PDU 1x beta RCU 2x shield boost cap use 1x thermal shield res 2x heavy 2x medium 1x light shield boost drone
Fittings are really tight, especially from CPU side altho with few more cheaper faction gadgets it might be possible to squeeze out few more CPU out from there should there be anything what would need to be switched out for slight gain in effectivity. Dont have any real problems tanking missions so far as I live in relatively lagfree area and dont work for caldary navy.
I did try also 2 torp ravens setup on missions but as some new missions have rather annoying amounts of dire gurista small ships (like pirate slaughter, and they do use ECM) I have impression (have not measured it actually) that cruise + torpedo is slightly faster than 2x torpedo setups if I use cruise to shoot small stuff and torps to shoot battleships. Target painter on cruise raven is rather fresh addition and it seems to work better than 2x missile signature rigs (had to remove those bcos of CPU issues).
So the question is what should I upgrade or change to be more effective. I do missions to get isk for my other toys so cant upgrade stuff to officer levels just for the 'pimp factor' but I am willing to invest into my setups over time should it make me do those missions faster enough to justify that investment. One of the planned changes is to switch shield boost drones into combat drones as soon as my alt gets his drone skills high enough to use T2. Mainly trying to figure out if it would be cost effective to upgrade to better faction launchers, BCU's or target painters and what would give me best result in mission effectivity.
With those setups new gurista extravaganza goes in 42 minutes (the one with reinforcments) without bonus stage but killing all ships in firrst 5 stages. I have been using that mission to measure my 'effectivity' so far altho I dont get it often enough to try out all possible combinations.

Any other suggestions ? What kind of upgrade would be most cost effective in your opinion (if I would shell out a bit more isk for next faction item).
I'm thinking about either dread gurista launchers or dread gurista BCU's. BCU's would propably give better dps/isk gain than launchers. Then again missile hardwirings are also option (I have cyberneticks 5 so can use them).
And ofcource gist shield boosters are a bit more comfortable to use as they dont need as mutch attention as t2 ones. But thats only comfort gain and will not make my missions go faster. Pity there is no faction target painters

Get a third account and run a salvager char on that one..... You can pay for that one with GTC that you trade for with isk ;)

I run myself in a tanked NH, deals with the small stuff.
The alt runs a Siege II, 5x BCUII Torp-raven to waste the BSs and runs a Medium Shield Transporter II to myself.
Works for me. --- in EVE - Idara |

Edited by: Sollz on 12/05/2007 16:50:13 if you run two chars, dont waste/risk cnr. Here is my setup for two chars running, and i can tank fulll gextra. 1. main is a raven *xl-shield booster *shield amp *the rest med slot for rat specific hardener *3bcu *4torp/2cruise/2small art cannon or 6torp/2small cannon *t2 med rat specific drones 2. support is an augoror (amarr cruiser) *1med shield transporter *3med regard energy transfer array *med/low try to fit best cap recahrger/cap relay to get permanant cap to run all 4 transfer mods on high slots.
i can run xl booster nonstop. if you upgrade to a BC,you can tank even more and dont have to worry about risking huge investment like CNR
P.S do not use drone on support char, they tend to pull agro

I just check stat from quickfit and found out that if you fit 3 core defense capacitor sa***uard I on raven, you only need 1 med regard energy transfer and can fit 2 med s95a shield transfer that is 384shield/5sec plus xl large shield booster 2 with copasetic shield amp that give 780shield/5sec total of 1164shield/5sec. if two copasetic shield amps are used, you can get up to 1367shield/5sec nonstop. Couple with resistant from 3/4 hardener, i think you can tank pretty much any lvl 4 mission full aggro

I used to use my alt as support at first. In Osprey first whitch was adequate but wery fragile. That was before reinforcemnt waves. Afterwards I figured out that battleship is more effective shield donor and switched to scorpion. A bit shorter range but was quite awesome. Could run 2 large shield trasfers nonstop (no tank on thing tho). Well and then figured out that speed counts and I can tank them without alt supporting me also.
Then used regular raven with 2 shield trasfers and 6 torpedos (still no tank on support), but then reinforcments came and it was no longer good idea to hover around in missions with non tanked ship as reinforments go for weakest tank present in most cases. Well at this point traded my spare CNR to my alt and stopped using shield trasfers. Logistic drones are almost adequate to not touch your shield booster at all in most missions. New ones are a bit tougher ofcource. But with those tanks on them I can tank all present lev 4 missions, mostly thanks to agro splitting. If both tanks are same strenght NPC seem to decide at random who to attack whitch in effect cuts incoming dps in half (in most missions).

I run a tanked Drake with a gank Dominix. NPCs don't pick aggro based on the tank. They pick aggro based on who shot at them or who is closest to them or who just launched drones. If the second ship hangs behind the first a bit, and doesn't ever shoot first at anything, he's way less likely to get aggro.
I can't figure out what would speed up my mission running more without training Ravens - the Drake has an amazingly good tank, but doesn't dish out much damage. I don't want to fly a Raven, but that would probably be the right choice for me. ---

I run a gist tanked Nighthawk to draw stage aggro and a gank fitted megapulse Abaddon to mop up. Works great.

Hm. I have considered possibility of replacing cruise missile CNR with nighthawk altho I have not actually compared their dps. Obiovsly other ship needs to be heavy hitter to take down battleships in reasonable time.
Wonder if Nighthawk + CNR combination might be more effective than 2x CNR assuming one ship ganks smaller targets (up to BC) and another bigger targets (BC and BS). Might give it a try altho would need to train a bit for nighthawk.

Test out the theory with Torp-CNR and Drake. If that combo shows promise then train for NH.

Edited by: Roxy Fortuna on 16/05/2007 08:13:30 I tank with my dominix .. and I kill with my drones ... wait that is only one person not two ..
oh well.
I guess you could have a Raven sit way back and destroy stuff while the dominix and drones go nuts.

I have found slightly better combination for lev 4 missions than my previous setups.
Cruise CNR 7x Cruise II 1x Auto Targeter I 1x XL T2 booster 2x T2 hardener 1x DG hadener 1x best named target painter 1x heavy cap injector (x800) 2x BCU II 1x DG BCU 1x internal DCU 1x Sensor Amp II 3x CCC rigs + medium shield boost x5 + T2 light x5 drones
Torpedo CNR 7x Domination Siege 1x Auto Targeter I 1x XL T2 booster 3x T2 hardener 1x best named target painter 1x heavy cap injector (x800) 3x BCU II 1x beta RCU 1x beta PDU 3x CCC rigs + medium shield boost x5 + T2 light x5 drones
Still need very good skills to fit (in addition to regular fitting skills like AWU 4 torp raven needs also power upgrades 4 to save few CPU from RCU and PDU). Fit is tight.
Slight addition to effectivity comes from better engagement range for cruise raven (110 km) and additional locks (up to 10 locked targets) allowing for faster removal of small targets. Extra 20 km lock range also means that I don't have to travel those ~10 km in some missions to engage sentries. Also started to carry T2 ammo on my cruise raven. Precisions remove frigates better than regular missiles altho their effectivity against cruisers is approx the same as regular missiles (with target painter) against BC and higher regulars are better. Fury missiles work good in BS heavy missions altho their engagement range is somewhat short and their max damage is still below torpedo levels. Most of the time it runs with regular t1 missiles tho as switching missiles too often cuts into effectivity.
About cruise raven vs nighthawk for smaller target spanking - cruise raven is more 'universal'. While Nighthawk would be better against frigates cruise raven with t2/t1 missiles wins against anything bigger due to better dps. As tanking is not really issue so far then possibility to add leadership modules for nighthawk does not seem so appealing for the time being.
Harder missions go in approx 45 minutes (gurista extravaganza, the assault, worlds collide).
Any reccomendations for better effectivity are welcome.

You are running a cap injector, you shouldent be in lvl4's
try a gist B xl, 1 CR, 3 PDU and 3 CPR's should run infinatly and tank most things if you manage to figgure out the proper hardners
after that it's just a matter of having your alt aply more gank to make things go poof faster |

Ouch. No BCUs = YOU shouldn't be in lvl4s :P And I wtb CNR with 6 lows too. Permatanking is NOT the way to efficiently run lvl4s. It is the way to run lvl4s slowly and bore yourself to death while doing it. Or to run your first few lvl4s as a n00b to grab the basics. (Or maybe to to it in Motsu, but doing that is so alien to me that I won't even think about it.)
A lot of those 'never dos' are in fact wrong.
There are quite a few valid cap injector fits for missions ships. Mixing long- and shortange weapons does work sometimes. Heck I even once had a decent fitting that used a 1600 plate in a mission (something I would normally shoot down myself). And as special courtesy to Ryysa, quickfit damage calcs CAN be taken pretty much at face value for PvE
And especially the cap booster is a very good tool to free up slots otherwise wasted on CRIIs and CPRs for more useful mods (see your horrible idea above). As long as your resists are high enough and/or the cap efficiency of your repair module is good enough, and/or you gank them fast enough to allow your charges to last through the entire mission, it works wonders.
Not a good idea for a mission n00b who doesn't know his much, but great for a mission pro who knows all missions in his sleep and wants to maximize efficiency.
Thank you SkyFlyer!

I truly love my Sensor Amp II for its +1 target. I keep my tractor beam to avoid the pesky grievers trying to steal your loot for the few missions where you DO have to gather items. Very interested in your auto-targeter setup, I believe there is a +4 tech 2 unit that would give me another +3. Not sure Multi-tasking 5 is worth it though?
My suggestion for upgrade is the pretty standard DG BCS or Caldari Navy BCS, after all my support for DG siege, their price doubled and sadly, I can't even get my own 7 that I need:(
Personally, unless you take out structure, use Light IIs and dont worry about mediums. With the new wave system you end up loosing drones for a very very slight increase in theoretical damage. Myself I am using 3x 5 sets of Hobbies IIs.
If your main tank needs help, 1x Gist X (main dmg) 2x DG Invulnv works in every mission I have tried.
Leandro runs a very efficient Torpedo setup and highly suggest dual painters. Maybe the Gist C X-large can free up enough tanking that you can drop the injector on your alt and fit a second painter?

Also, if you DO go with a Raven + Nighthawk combo (any volunteers to test this on sisi vs. 2x cnr?) there is the possibility of using siege warfare and/or skirmish warfare modules to free up some tank and cut down on travel time between gates.
For true optimization you'd probably have to have 2 CNR each set up for cruise and torp, and 2 Nighthawks each to swap for various missions -- 2x Nighthawk for the score, 2x torp raven for The Assault, e.g. I'm not rich enough to pull this off, but it sounds like you might be.
