Never flown a level 4 combat mission before so am looking for advice on the sort of tank needed. If I avoid the harder missions what sort of tank will see me through.
In Amarr space I tend to get Sansha and Bloods with the odd Gurista. Against Gurista would this tank be sufficient - of course as an armour tanker I can get resistances higher vs Blood or Sansha:
LAR2 + MAR2 (My cap will sustain the LAR2 more or less permanently with bursts from the MAR2)
Kinetic resist 81.5% Thermal resist 78.5%
If this is not enough how much stronger do I need to make the tank

Better to load up on resists than on reppers. Get rid of the MAR2 and use a rat specific hardener, or if you've already done that to where stacking hurts, use a DC2.

for a shield tank - xl booster, boost amp, 4 hardeners. fill remaining slots with cap recharger's and power diagnostics
for armor tank - two large reps, 4 hardeners, remaining slots with cap recharger's and cap power relays.
keep in mind that these will need to be t2 or best named.

Pretty nice summary.
Can try using a combination of EAN/Damage control/hardeners, depends vastly what kind of ship tho. The ships with higher rests (prophecy, absolution, abaddon comes to mind) can easily use 2x ean with a damage control and one passive hardener.. while ships with lower resists often would do better with 4 active hardeners.
Don't look too much on 2 resists only as in some missions you'll want all 4 fairly high, more than often at least 3 of them.
Apoc: pure cap rechargers with ean/active hardeners Abaddon: pure cap rechargers with ean/damage control/passive Absolution: one cap recharger, with 2x ean, passive thermic, one damage control and a cap power relay
All with dual reppers.

You don't need dual reppers. Ships with armor resists are fine enough with a single repper and active hardners. That way you also save more PG for more firepower. Work on the armor compensations in Mechanic and you'll have an easy time with most Amarr missions at least. --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |

Bearing in mind I am new to level 4's and don't have a lot of time to play.
My Domi's low slots are 2xLARII, DCII, 4 target specific hardners, with my mid slots being nothing but cap rechargers. Would like to replace some of those rechargers with other items.
I can run the hardners, damage control and one repairer without worrying about cap, if there are NOS equipped rats I don't think I've encountered them yet. I've only successfully run about half a dozen L4 missions to date.

Rigs can help you out with the capacitor regen. They ain't too expensive and quite easy to get to if you can salvage yourself. Just pop Blood or Sansha, and you get what's needed.
Another option is to use Power Relays on low slots if you can afford it to free up med slots. 4 hardners sound quite harsh actually, since most missions only have 2 damage types. Drones do all damages, but I haven't noticed any dangerous damage from them yet. --- Currently flying a PvE geared Crusader and Prophecy |
