I've seen a few RP corps, though their names escape me ATM. There are a bunch of MERC groups that you can find in the Crime and Punishment section of the forum. You should check the Corp Recruitment channels as well. As for the RP aspect, I tend to approach it more as an actor taking on a role in a movie, more an individual thing than collective. I do enjoy the Lore and the history that's been created over the years as it provides a richness and depth not found in other games. The first exploration ship I bought I named the Tau Ceti, but I'd guess that a vast majority of players couldn't tell you why I did. It's just not their thing. In New Eden, I'm Intaki and I try to "be" Intaki in my play style. But that's just for my amusement, and not dependent on everyone else's playstyle. Definitely not for everyone, but it works for me.
Good Luck in your new life here in New Eden.

While we (Devils) arent currently taking contracts or newbros you should read our thread linked in my sig to see what we are about.
Fyi people tend not to rp Mercenaries because Actual Mercenaries tend to take an intrest in them. Though these days the old school merc that will actualy come and find you are few and farr between so you might get away with it.
Point being, sure you can rp one or you can actually be one

We have a very active RP community around minerbumping.com with one side playing the benevolent, ever helpful heroes, known as the Knights of the New Order, on their quest to free Highsec from the monster which is the bot-aspirancy and the greed which poisons those holy lands of our Saviour and Father of the New Order, the great Supreme Protector James 315.
And on the others side we have a lot of people playing the filthy and ill tempered miners. Not sure why you would chose to play on their side, but some people find it attractive to play the villain.

You should check this forum section for RPlayers and RP-corporations.
There are a lot of merc corporations across New Eden, but i've never heard 'bout RP-mercs. Phayder is a RP-corporation too, but not the one you're looking for. Anyway - feel free to ask me questions regarding RP and lore if you need to.

There are some entirely RP corporations but not many, There are more that RP-lite (that is, they have a RP concept which members are invited to work with, but it's not required, or only some of the time. Many members might like the concept, but don't RP at all).
If you want to be a mercenary, you need to be professional about it or will likely get laughed at. That means learning to PvP effectively (otherwise no-one will hire you or your corp). There are a number of options, but I would strongly recommend you look up Mercenary Coalition and their new player training corporation, Mercenary Training Academy. (They have a corp advert in the Alliance and Corporation Recruitment thread). MC get hired on serious contracts and their experienced pilots train the new players through the learning corps.
If you go this route, there is at least one RP corporation within MC that might offer you a place. They are RP lite (not everyone RPs, but there are several good players including the CEO who do). It's Coreli Corporation, and the style is Serpentis affiliated mercenaries and drug barons.
That's one route, and as a RPer myself, it's the one I enjoyed until I moved in RL to a different time zone. There are others if you look around. One I always liked the look of was the Black Rebel Rifter Club, who style themselves as a kind of brutal biker gang - not sure if they RP outside this style, but if I had a Minmatar character, I might aspire to something like that.
Read the corp adverts in the recruitment thread, most RP groups will say so and outline the style of RP.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

RP does exist in game but the "golden age" of it is long past. The height of RP spanned from the introduction of wormholes through the live event Sansha incursions. Since those days it has been mainly in the background but the old die-hards of RP (and those who were best at it) are still doing it well. Go to the Intergalactic Summit forum to see more.

My corp is heavy RP among me and my alts. Too bad we aren't recruiting. Especially not you.
But to be serious, Curatores Veritatis Alliance comes to mind for RP stuff. They also have a chat channel. TheChatadel? Don't ask me how it's named, it's been a few years since they permabanned me everywhere for... reasons.
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

I'd say RP in EVE is a joke. Either do something or don't. Saying you did something you didn't just makes you look like an ass. Pretend to be a badass merc without actually being one, and you'll get your ass kicked. Pretend to be a faction loyalist without either joining FW or recruiting for FW or otherwise taking real action, and you just look sad. There is lore but that's also a joke. Stuff gets retconned constantly, the "lore community" is actively hostile to outsiders, and most of it is literally just poorly conceptualized fanfic (especially the official stuff). The company keeps firing whichever dev happens to volunteer (literally volunteer, as they have to do it in their spare time unpaid) to take charge of the lore. The whole "EVE is real" thing is really the thing that represents the core of EVE, all of the not real stuff is just kind of embarrassing. All that said, it's your game, your experience to shape for yourself. If that's what gets your rocks off, make it work for you.

I would spread your story out a bit. Meaning, maybe not start the story as a merc as being a newbro, you will find landing contracts to be next to impossible.
Find a player corp that RPs and get your feet wet a bit in the PvP game. Learn the systems and the routes between hubs. Only use those hubs to resupply. You don't want to be labeled as a hub hugging worthless git like most of the merc corps in New Eden.
Sooner or later the Rp you are shooting for will happen. As folks have said, RP'n a merc when you can't actually be one will draw the attention of real mercs in the game. Might not be the side of the contract you are shooting for.
