I just caught up on some dev blogs I haven't had time to read lately, and one says that all static plexes will be converted to exploration sites. This made me wonder. I don't think I have seen any official mention of this, but there ARE currently plexes in the game that require exploration to find, but are still static - they never despawn.
My question is, are these plexes intended to be that way, and will they start moving around in the future since it seems that the goal is to get rid of the known farm spots and force exploration.

the combat plexes you find with exploration do in fact despawn. That is, if you go in them and kill stuff. if you just activate them by hitting them with a scanner then they appear and won't go away till they are entered and attempted. It seems as though mining exploration sites will stick around until they are completely emptied, but I've had combat plexes despawn on me if I've gone in, kill some rats and had to warp out. Seems all ya gotta do is activate them.

Do you need probes to find them, or can you scan them with the new scanner?

Most plexes do despawn, but I know of two that do not. They have been there for months and a certain alliance regularly farms them for gas harvesters. One is called "Provincial HQ" and is a combat plex harder than a 10/10, and the other is called "Hidden Arc Site" and is also harder than a 10/10, and requires archeology to activate either of the gates in the first pocket.

Comment please CCP. Are permanent hidden plexes intended or bugs?

They are bugs so bug report them.

All exploration sites are dynamic = they are meant to despawn once they've been completed. If they haven't been completed they will despawn after 48 hours. If you find an exploration site that does not despawn please bug report it, including the name of the exploration site (this is very important).
Currently we are testing almost 300 escalation path sites that have been revamped and we're also keeping a careful eye on despawning triggers, so hopefully after these new versions will be released on Tranquility we'll have less and less issues with exploration sites not despawning properly.

There are a few static complexes in the game that do not show up on the overview and must be scanned.
One that I know of is in KRUN-N. I forget the name if it atm, but there is an agent mission/offer that sends you there to pickup a tag.

All I'm going to say is what I said in the blog - all "normal" DED-rated static complexes from 3/10 to 10/10 are being redistributed, plus maybe one or two problem COSMOS complexes. I couldn't possibly comment on any other hidden static content that may or may not exist :)
While I'm here, it's worth mentioning that some of the information in the blog about this general subject is now inaccurate due to technical issues - I'll probably blog about this again in the near future.

Hrm... two different devs, with two different answers. Which is right? Rho shambau for it.
Are there, or are there not supposed to be some sites in game that can only be found with scan probes, but are not dynamic content?

as far as i know, there are sides that can be found with probes and dont disapear because they have agents in them.
other sides despawn but will instantly respawn in the same constellation so maybe in the same system too but unlikly at the same position

That 48h supposed to be true for ALL sites? Because for example Gravimetric (mining) sites stay much longer than that. I haven't timed it but my guess would be around 1 week for them. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Greyscale: can you please clarify whether or not there is supposed to be hidden static content in the game, or if it is a bug? You seemed to hint that it is intended. If so, then will these hidden static plexes also be removed with this change?

This came up internally today, and the answer is that all sites should currently despawn 48h after the last time someone entered them. If this isn't happening then please submit a bug report :)

Not everything that exists in the game is "public knowledge". That said, if you think you've found something that's genuinely bugged, again, please bug report it so we can look into it.

Ah I kept entering the site daily to see if it was still there and that reset the despawn timer. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |
