I am pretty new to this game and i know a lot of pirates "claim" to have gone legitimate, but then they still fire at you. Is there a list of the pirates so we know who we are dealing with? If not then what about starting one here. I have a freind in the corp who was attacked by a player who claims to have given up pirating. Would be helpfull because a lot of them dont have a negative rating.
Well any help would be great, thanks

best advice I could give you is "trust noone"
yeah, sounds cheesy but it's the only way. In any system below .5 security rating this doubles in importance because Concord will not come to your aid if you are attacked.
One thing you can do is check the person's corporation. If it's a legit corp, then report the attack to his CEO - perhaps he'll get kicked or you'll get compensation in some form - logs are handy for this. If it's a pirate corp then, well, good luck cause pirating is what they do ;) =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

In the Eve community it works like this:
If you shoot at someone you are a pirate
If you complain about someone shooting at you you are a carebear
Thats it. Nothing more to remember. -------------------------------------------- Dead

To make a list of pirates amongst 5000 active players might be tough. As said above don't trust anyone. I can claim to be a former Gynecoligist too. _ _ How many pilots does it take to wire a Flux Capacitor? 3, 1 to wire it and 2 to talk about how the old one was better. |

Hello Monica Scuro
Yes I cant but agree with the replies from Elder Galadriel. Its even a bit worse, lies and disinformation from certain players might get you into an even worse spot at times, like myself that have been used as target practice by guys like Soulchaser and Mastah Killer. I have now been informed that I am on the KOS list for their entired alliance - guess they want me to pay for the ammo they used up also! *Bleargh!* With such crap trown my way my hand seems to be forced, so at least right now you will have to put me on the 'to be watched' list. (Not my choice - but with the lies and repeated attacks on me I might just have to shoot first from now on to be safe, since I expect they will start using alts in their relentless harassment of me.
So do I appear to be whining here? Well perhaps a bit. Overall this is a great game, and il be in for a while more.
But another important point here, some players claim to 'own' certain parts of space in this game. I had not entered theirs, but you are best advised to stay out of such parts of space. A newbie in a newbie corp is frowned upon, fair and straight players will ask you to leave. And you better do so then, quickly even. But others will just kill, without warning. 'Good' pirates will ask for 'protection money' and that will most often be based on a percentage of the cost of your ship. So if you go into insecure space, dont do so when you are broke.
As Gallente you will be somewhat better off in Gallente and Minmatar areas (your allies, such as meself roleplaying Minmatar). If you accept to be a 'cog in the machinery' you might sign up with a corp thats part of any of the big alliances.
So trust noone except your corpmates, at times you might trust alliane members - but dont take it for granted they are being fair and straight at all times.
So you want a corp of that kind? Theres a few out there and I can tell you one offhand that I have the utmost respect for. No, neither me or my alt is member of it but I assure its a good one its called: Backwater.

There are way more than 5000 active players since there can be 5500 players active at the same time, when lots of players in other timezones can't play at all.

If you fly from Stain to Venal, then to Yulai to buy some Quafe, you'll meet many people, some very nice, but many that are equally as bad.
If you find a home for yourself somewhere in between, you'll meet people that you can trust, and others you know are evil to the core. Only experience will let you know who you can trust and who you cannot.

You can trust me in two things: pay up when a Space Invaders guy charges a gate toll and you live, try to run for the jump and you die. That's the whole thing. ____________________________________

ROFL! That was FUNNY Bas!
This is assuming that the SPVD even charges a toll...Most that I have had the "pleasure" of running into just shoot first.

Unless you are in a frigate, you'll get queried for ISK. They've got two of my corpses somewhere from when I was travelling in frigates ...
But, then again, I've never lost anything bigger than a frigate.

Thank you guys and girls, i have figured it out after a while of practice.
Dont pay pirate tolls, you are just funding ****wits. Also the main problem was figuring out who was bad and good but i can do this from thier character sheet, so i tell you all to set standings to corps and characters who are "bad" to negative, then we can see at a click, if they are set to bad by a lot of decent people then they are asshats. I am now pretty good at spotting scammers and terrorists of eve. P.S. thats something i noticed, why does everyone call them pirates, after a few days of playing i have noticed they are not pirates at all, in no way shape or form. Should we not call them terrorists from now on? Well im going to lol
Thanks again for your help

Language, Timothy ....
Anyway ... morally acclaimable, but pragmatically silly. In the case of "honest" pirates, paying the toll and keeping your ship costs you an awful lot less money than swearing at them and losing ship and clone. You might even find that the riches to be gained by passing through their toll and back so heavily outweigh the toll they charge, that it's worth the effort. If it helps, think of them as private enterprise tax collectors.
OTOH, if a pirate demands a toll, is paid it, and then shoots the victim anyway, he's being an incredible fool. By playing the "honest" pirate, he might've been able to keep extracting tolls from that player every time he passes by; by breaking his word on the toll, he guarantees nobody else will ever try to pay one, so he's forced to either become an outright murderer, or never make any more.
And of course, those who ARE outright murderers, don't care about tolls at all, they just want to shoot you because they enjoy shooting people. This is a PvP game, after all .. so more power to them. As long as they ply their trade wherever I'm not going
