So to circumvent one simple click, you want to create an entirely new and cumbersome process. Yeah, for some reason I don't think CCP will take you seriously. |

Solution: Integrate the existing systems of the fitting window skin selection with the Genolution AU-79 "Implant slot" system and allow all implants to use up a newly created "Skin Slot".
Create a new slot for each hull out there and allow selections in the fitting window the modify the "Skin Slot".
This way without too much work all skins would automatically be applied to each ship you jump into, including pods.

This is overly complicated and unwieldy as a solution. What you're asking for is basically just a skin slot on fittings, which is both more doable and less complex than this overly complicated mess you've come up with. |

Everyone has those new pod skins now, but they're silly because every time you leave ship, the skin is gone.
I'm fine with repackaging removing skins, but I wish at least the pod one could be defaulted. |

If I purchase a SKIN and want it to be 'permanent'... I would rather use the term 'default',
I think that is a viable and logical option

I can't test it myself, so I have to ask: how does the gold pod skin actually work? Is there an option to switch between the gold and the default skin, or it permanently overwrites the default? Because if it can be switched, then there is no reason why CCP couldn't and shouldn't make it possible for pilots to change their default pod skins. For the ships, I think it's unnecessary to make it different than it is now, 2 more clicks won't kill anyone (hopefully).

It depends how it works. The implant slot will likely end up restricting how many skins you can use on a character at once. Or be incredibly cumbersome if it doesnt.
With each unpackaged ship being unique there may be no way to have an 'apply to all of this type' function. But there may be a way to have the client remember your last active skin for each ship, or have a default apply to a ship when you unpack it.

Technically the skin is already a ship slot. If you leave and re-enter the same ship, it retains the last skin applied.
The problem is that when you are a pod, it is a newly created ship every time you leave another ship by any means.
So you're required to apply the skin to the pod each time you enter it. This issue is likely why the aurum pod was implemented in the way it was.
So, the solution is this simple:
Saved fittings need to include the skin selection, and the capsule just needs to retain the last skin selected. |

The gold pod predates the current skin system is more the reason it works like it does, and it really should be transitioned over to the current system. But Pods are the only awkward thing |

... the capsule just needs to retain the last skin selected. Actually this could be solved really simply: add one more line to the player profile, invisible to the players, that contains a number. When players change the skin on the pod, this number is edited by the system. Each time a new pod is generated, the system checks this number and applies the skin according to it.

Skins should be default applied, especially the pod skin. |
