New ships that can be controlled by multiple people at the same time, each individual would control certain aspect of the ship, such as shields, speed, guns, drones. etc.
There would be skill books that support all the ship roles as well as class roles for the type of the ship.
I think this would be very fun as it would create more diversity and put some of the current skill into better use by payers. This can be very broadly developed since the possibilities are endless. |

Why? If there's any advantage to using this ship over normal ones, I'll just crew it entirely with my alts. If there isn't, nobody will bother with it. |

Has been suggested hundreds of times in the past. While the idea may seem cool, it's impossible in practise because the engine can't handle it. |

I've seen it suggested many times. As has been said by Arden, the game doesn't support it.
That said, if such a thing were implemented, I'd make it so that a Titan can (but are not required) give control of certain systems to players. And that a supercarrier could let players fly their fighter squads (remote control, the way the military flies drones now).
It's a cool idea, but I would honestly rather fly my own ship. |

Client doesn't support this in a major way. The level of rewrite that would be required for what is basically a "for fun" feature (and one with majorly problematic balance implications at that) would years of dev time.
If you want that kind of gameplay go find some friends to play Artemis or something.
Also just because something sounds cool doesn't mean it'll make for good gameplay. In practice playing ship's engineer is kinda boring. |

The closest thing to that would be a death-star Large POS where mutable gunners took control of the turrets.
Those are going away in a bit.
It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

I have good news, there is coming an.....um...."opportunity", to pilot many ships designed exactly like this. I suggest looking farther abroad to find them though.
