'ello!
I have a request.
With my Laptop I have to dial the game down to minimum graphics to get pretty lasers & guns & stuff. And I can only dial it down so far. As in, it does still jam or not respond on occasion. So...
I'm requesting that I can dial it ( the graphics ) down further. To a pure tactical display ( with no pretties. Just the blobs I need to see ).
What I want is a really low graphics experience, focused purely on game-play. With an option for zoom-in where the graphics for that object can then be dialled up ( then dialled back down again when you zoom out ). This is the 'look at' option in game.
So it's all blobs normally, and then when you 'look at' you get a pop-up of a pretty picture.
It's just to give older & cheaper laptops a fighting chance. For me personally it will also feel edgier.
Making background image files even smaller would do this A LOT. As in, in tactical mode, you just don't need to see every star-system or nova in the background; as your key anomalies will be flagged up anyway.
Some of us just aren't rich; so being able to take the graphics lower would help people in my opinion. As long as I get a red blob on my little list I know that I am peachy :)

... does your laptop meet the minimum specs? I run eve just fun on low settings using a $500 so I'm sure even really cheap ingress can run it at this point

That's not really the point. If you can take minimum specs lower you can get more players. People who can do -ú10 a month, but may well have trouble with -ú400 of laptop. People like me ( my laptop is about -ú240 on a cheapy from eBuyer, so about $300-ish ).
Fun is fun after all. |

There comes a point where one has to draw the line, and that line is the minimum specs.
Then you have to consider the image they want their game to present. If you start putting videos of Eve out on youtube, or streaming, and it looks like garbage, it reflects poorly on a game where they're actively working to enhance the graphical experience. |

As I have stated, the zoom-in is where the pretties come out.
Plus, who wants a crap game with loads of eye-candy? No serious gamer.
Who wants a great game with some eye-candy? Serious & older gamers show started out on games like C&C ( which wasn't exactly pretty, but hugely playable ).
If all you want is eye-candy I think you missed a memo. |

Not unless you plan on turning everything off and working with just an overview and blocky icons in black space.
As long as ships and stations need models rendered you're eventually going to run into problems like this.

like how crunchy do you want it?
-Doom II, Wolfenstein on a Tandy? -Starflight on a PC? or -Wire frame Elite on a Commodore 64? -AscII game on an XT-8088? -Pong on a bread board?

They used to have this. Before the change, I used to play eve on an acer aspire one (netbook). It was very good and the only way I ever got into eve was because of it. After a time they phased it out |

Lol just have the option to turn all graphics off, all you get is your UI and Brackets, your overview has all the info anyways.

Maybe just turn all models off would help.
