HERE,
Everyone stop making topics about those games.
Just put them all in here so we can have them all in one nice spot for Blane to freely mock and rage are you. Save the man some type from having to type in several threads. |

In before Blane, Akita, that other dude etc.
I'm tempted to try Perpetuum and Black Prophecy just so I can get some context.

So multiple threads about Infinity are OK then?
Not really, but yes, no more Perpetuum threads please. |

Black Prophecy is actually really decent, the immersive quality of actually flying your ship makes you feel like you are IN the universe and not looking at just a spreadsheet interface. It reminds me of tie fighter but with better graphics and definitely the gameplay is fun. You start out aboard a mothership or something and you're under attack, you have control of a turret, similar to luke and han solo in star wars when they are ripping up tie fighters. Then the enemy mother ship appears and you're shooting weak points on the ship.
After this stage you get your spaceship and are able to fly and fight in it. Great beginning and I have to say it makes eve look a bit pale in comparison. The pve mechanics feel right, |

I played the Black Prophecy beta and was impressed for about an hour, then I realized everything is instanced and there's no real jumping through warpgates or "real" exploring. Is it the same for the live version? If it's more immersive than beta I'll give it another shot. If not.... |

Not tried it myself, but to quote a buddy of mine:
"Community hype paints it as "EVE - if you could actually fly the ships". Which is to say that the only applicable comparison between the two games is that both are set in space with spaceships and explosions. Black Prophecy is a run of the mill spaceflight shooter which handles fairly well - when it's not lagging all to hell, even when playing solo in an instance. But unless you like hours of shooting ships, over and over, again and again, there really isn't much else holding the game together at this point. "
Linky to the thread I just quoted

Played Perpetuum for a bit and got bored with it. I had fun with it at first but everything just looked the same and all the missions were "Go here, kill 5 robots, collect stuff, come back" Which granted is much like eve missions but everything just looked the same and I just got bored with it, Where as with EvE when I first started I couldn't get enough.
Black Prophecy really interested me because I used to play Xwing Vs Tie Fighter all the time and really miss the space simulator genre. It looked ok but the interface was pretty bad. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to dock. Also didn't have a joystick at the time so control was a pain. Maybe it's improved since then but I wasn't getting any good vibes from it.
What Lucas arts needs to do is release a new XW Vs Tie game now that ISPs and bandwidth can actually handle it. I used to love that game but dial up was still pretty popular and really limited the experience. Now adays I could see some large scale battles happening and I think it would be amazing. |

If by 'decent' you mean 'passable' and by 'immersive' you mean 'wow it sure is fun to see me doing **** I wouldn't have done if you would have let me fly the damn ship' then yes, it's a 'decent' and 'immersive' game.
Not going to bother with the rest. SWG did it better with JTL. |
