That won't work. People will just spawn more barges.
The only way to fight bots is to make mining "more intelligent", so it won't be able to mine AFK.

Mining should be a less AFK active. I think it should be more like PI, with hotspots and dead spots and you have to adjust the lasers from time to time to get better yields. I sometimes go AFK in the middle of a cycle myself because there is nothing happening.

Yes! Let's completely change yet another game system and see even more players who enjoyed that activity leave the game.
I mine because I enjoy that it's less intense than killing stuff and doesn't require my full and constant attention. It's not as attention requiring as say running missions and that's why I choose to mine rather than run missions. |

Fighting bots by reducing yield of ships is the whole reason bots exist. You'll effectively increase the sales of your 3rd party software .

The amount of game time which at keyboard miners need to spend is already excessive. Increasing this even further is borderline loonacy. Mining is already gimped with other gameplay aspects to the point where most PvP players will forgo this gameplay element entierly.
Yet people love to hate miners, and will spare nothing to screw them over at every opportunity. As if the issues with ganking and pirate ambushes are not enough. You're trying to screw them over on the balance forums as well. Mining and Industry are fast becoming the wayside gameplay elements, and there is just little incentive to do these things. They are non-engaging gameplay - and infact it's more like work that play.
Mining is already a time consuming chore, and it's rather a poor trade on the risk vs. reward spectrum. So lets not make it any worse than it already is. Otherwise, people will just not mine. The market will become under supplied, and you will not have the ships you need for PvP. |

Awesome and to the point. ^
I quit playing a little over 10 months ago. Thought I'd come back and read a little on the forums to see if the same mentality towards miners/industrialist still exist. I see it does. So... my 6 accounts will continue to lay dormant.
I will continue playing my other space ship game -which by the way... is free, no limitations as is with EVE now. Alpha clone - lol, what is that all about? Meh, not important as I'm taking another 10 or so months off from EVE. Hopefully the devs will completely remove industry and mining. Let the pvp'rs "pay to play" by buying their pvp ships using "micro-transactions". Save me the trouble of reading through all the epeen that is on these forums in an effort to decide. DO I REALLY WANT TO COME BACK TO EVE??? |

I have to lol at this idea that comes up on the forums every few months that mining must somehow be made more excruciating than it already is. If I want to make some easy AFK isk a lot easier to just pick up an agent mission which takes place in a single pocket or visit a juicy combat anomaly, drop an MTU and unleash drones. Then come back in a few minutes , complete any mission tasks if needed and put out salvage drones. Disappear again. Return to scoop everything up and move on. Compare that to having to micro-manage strip miners and targets and fly back and forth to a station to clear out the hold. |

Where it up to meGäó, no player would mine or haul again.
Every mining and commerce-related vessel would be NPC controlled, and players would buy, equip, and staff them. Then send the ships out to gather stuff. (There was a very popular video game, one of the first of the greats and I forget the name, where you did this with animal-like robots in the wild).
All of these mining vessels would be openly attackable, anywhere any time, with not much more happening than a suspect flag.
Players owning the "interest" or assets would have to defend them.
Thus every player would be a combat player to some extent.
(cue the autistic screeching from the usual HTFU crowd who can't live without helpless victims to hate)
But it's just my idea and nothing is going to change. Calm down gankers.

Thanks for proving how spot on I was with my other above post. Yeah who cares if long time players of the game are driven out of EVE because the activity that works well for them is changed into something very different. Let's just hope for the best that these players are magically replaced by the kind of players I prefer - Whoever the hell they are and however they should magically appear in this more than decade old game. |

If you want to reduce production, why nerf barges? Rorquals do most of the mining these days. In nullsec.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/6g2eyh/better_chart_total_mining_value_by_region_may/
In case you have lived under a Veldspar rock the last year, a summary:
Quote:It was more the change to carrier mechanics and how that effected ratting. Carriers are no longer AFK, so all the big multiboxers moved to mining, and with the introduction of injectors they're able to field large fleets of max skilled miners almost completely AFK.
Rorqual are more expensive than carriers by far, but they also have a higher yield per hour. Rorquals have been nerfed since then, so barges might get more popular again, but i doubt they will dominate the mining stats again because so many people have trained into Rorquals. They will keep using them. |

First, they contribute their monthly subscription, just like you. This may be worthless to you, but, just like your money, they're money helps keep the game alive.
Second, no one in Eve is required to "contribute" anything. This is just something you've made up to justify your syle of play and deem it rightous, while those that play differently from you are playing wrong. yes mining is boring, but it's more of winde down kinda job in eve. When I'm stressed from real life, and want to chill out and blast some roids.
Yes most people don't get why mining is an ok hobby, not just AFK and multi mining, but real mining. I love kicking it in fleet and chitchat, joke, and act like fools over coms or chat. It's more fun than most things I've done in eve.

Discussion on mining changes and mineral markets
I had an interesting conversation about mining the current health of the Eve economy with several pilots. It might add some value to the current thread.
It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.
