As above, so below.
Interestingly, only some of the Practicals were interested in maintaining the border closure; the Patriots and Liberals were unified and universal in favoring a re-opening of borders.

As an outsider, I assume their must be some advantage apparent to the dissenting voters in retaining the border restrictions. Leveraging down against growing competitors, or perhaps additional pressure along the Federation border with Amarr... puzzling. I suppose it is moot now. |

As an advocate of unfettered commerce, I must admit I am of mixed mind regarding this development. Though the lack of similar response from Federal authorities is noteworthy. Let's just hope they don't decide to 'inspect' any more fighters to death.

Well, according to one Caldari entertainment programme you could...

I'm surprised to see Reppola-haan criticize Ishanoya-haani so harshly in response to her change of heart. In my view it's rarely a good thing to flame someone when they come around to your side and see the error of their ways. You only decrease the odds of those changes of heart happening in the future. As such, I must ironically see Reppola-haan's statements as emotionally derived, made out of spite.

The other key point from the press release, that diplomatic channels remain closed, might have been a point of some contention between the blocs. I guess it's possible that debate became emotional behind closed doors, as you suggest. |

The system appears to be working as designed, with Lai Dai's board being forced to accede to shareholder pressures. I'm not at all convinced by Reppola-haan's argument that the change of direction represents anything so much as the difference between a decision taken in haste, reacting to a situation, compared to a decision taken in the fullness of time.
I would hope that any leader would keep their mind sufficiently open to new input that they can change a decision they no longer feel is in the best interests of share holder value.

I'd venture that Reppola-haan's contention that Lai Dai's making important economic decisions 'in the heat of the moment' is a legitimate one, as the fate of trillions shouldn't be left to moments of pique. Admittedly, excoriating Ishanoya-haani over this seems ill-timed when, indeed, it would be better to simply welcome the move. Perhaps this is simply a positional play to strengthen the power of shareholders and render Ishanoya-haani more pliable in the future?
Either way, I'm glad of the reversal of what seemed a perhaps brash and somewhat unwarranted move, and will leave the politicking on this matter to the executives.
So far as we're concerned, it's back to business as usual as we await the release of Hope Act materials.
