..ok so i stole the subject title from a song, sue me.
Anyway on to the point.
using an alt so not to give my corp a bad name, read on and you'll see why.
Bit of background: I have a 38.5m skill point pvp char, i'm living out in 0.0 with a corp which has about 30 active players (maybe more i dont count).
We live in and around a smallish area which is visited by hostiles on a regular basis, usually only 1 or 2 at a time. On occasion we do get a 10 man gang come in looking for a fight and if we're lucky everyone will form up and we'll get a fight going.
My main income is ratting, since i'm only good at killing stuff, i dont really get the big bucks like others do. The most i've ever seen in my wallet was 700m. For a char of my age you would of thought i would be rolling in the isk but for some reason i suck at making money.
The Issue: I'm starting to get a little bored of the area as i feel the locals just can't be bothered to protect the space and we never really get anything exciting going on. The most fun thing i can hope for, is a small gang hunting down a couple of local hostiles.
I've kinda given up bothing to join the gangs for a number of reason. 1) The skills of the locals are a bit lacking, so i often think ganging up with them will get me killed. 2) A gang takes too long to form up and by the time its all ready to get going, the hostiles have left. 3) There aren't any fleet commanders around. 4) I dont have the isk to just throw around, so i pick my fights very carefully. granted if i lose a ship i can get the isk together to get a new one, not very quickly.
I have quite a few pvp ships which have been kitted out with full t2 and are all ready for a really good fight, which never comes.
Now the saying "dont fly what you can't afford to lose" doesn't really apply here, since i can afford to lose them, but i feel that throwing away ships is just a waste. Having ships blown up for a real good fight or a good cause is worth it though.
I kinda feel like i'm stuck in a rut, with ships to use but nothing to use them on.
I guess if i had my wish then i would be in a corp that somehow runs a scheme that pays its members for something, maybe an investment scheme. Or maybe be in a decent merc corp that is full of good pilots that know what they are doing and the members get paid well.
I feel that if i had loads of isk then i probably would go nuts and throw away ships left right and centre (getting lots of kills in the process).
As it stands i'm a pvper with little to no pvp happening.
I have thought about leaving my corp but they are a great bunch of guys and i really dont wanna ditch them, but i may not have a choice.
Anyone got any advice, or are in the same sorta situation?
Cheers guys.

Estoramus, I am somewhat in the same situation as you. I've been in a couple of corp's with some really good folks, but things have lately become quite boring. Right now I'm in empire just skilling up (I have 17mil SP's) and running missions to get my standings high enough to pick up some jump clones. This is what I see happening in EVE right now:
D2 doesn't seem to have the "horsepower" to do what they set out to do vs BoB and friends. IMHO, aligning yourself with D2 is prolly a losing proposition. They appear ready to fade from the scene.
The general sentiment toward BoB and friends is negative. Aligning yourself with them could hurt you in the long run since some of BoB's tactics include running spies. Were you to leave BoB's group to join another corp/alliance would cast suspicion on your motives for joining another organization.
My suggestion is that you look for a small to medium merc corp that is looking to build up its PvP abilities. They'll prolly be empire based. I have some candidates in mind. Contact me ingame if you would like to discuss it.
Regards, Tryp

well esto... contact us maybe
we are not great pvpers but on a corp level we offer ships for the ops. we replace the losses if we can, our corp gangs work well together at least
the investment plan we found was financing that with the corp tax and a couple lotteries that run ever now and then. corp also trades a lot to fill the pvpers fitting slots
like a way industrials help pvpers who protect industrials
thing is dont get bored. get in a ship and do something different, that usually works ------

I am poor as hell too (149000 ISK in wallet atm). When I am bored in 0.0, I go pirating. But then I have a large alliance of friends to fly with. Join an alliance or fly with other blues is the only solution I guess. And then when you have been pirating in the same system for 2 weeks and get blobbed by various people wanting revenge every day, go back to your safe 0.0 haven and earn iskies for a while

Dude, I'm in teh same boat, except I don't have money problems.
I have three accounts, one is a 45mil Production/Dread/Carrier pilot, and I own my Dread. The other is a 41mil PvP account. I've lived in 0.0 for over a year, and I'm getting bored stupid. I hang with a mostly Euro alliance, so when I'm on (US timezone) we don't really have enough pilots to defend against the Axis of Evil (Bob and ilk). I really want to PvP with others, I mean honor and heart (1 vs 3-4) is all well and good but gets expensive.
Suggestions? I love the game itself, but getting worn down my current circumstances. I think flying for Outbreak would be neat as long as they shoot Bob, dunno if they would have me though.

Probably this is the main problem. People need a guide! If you have so much experience you should becoming a fc ad lead gangs! You'll never be bored again..

Try being a fleet commander? It doesn't solve the problem of people not signing up, but if you score victories and have fun that gets better.

Yeah, as others have said, it sounds like you're seniour enough to be taking the bull by the horns and leading. In my position (very young and looking my first player corp...) I'd be looking for good leadership and all the benefits it brings.
No-one calling the shots? Call the shots! Corp mates hesitant? Get in a position within the corp to compel them: "get over here NOW and suport your corp or get our of this corp"
Playing Counter-Strike (plz! no flame!) I sometimes see a similar situation in 'teams'. The whole team hesitates, sees a couple of mates go down and before you know it the whole team is back-peddling to spawn and getting picked of by the more aggresive opposition. Usually, it takes just one effective leader on voice to turn it around. They explain why the team is losing, point out a solution, then start saying simple stuff like " Everyone, left thru X...NOW!".
Take the lead. Have fun!

I am about the same sp level as you. After spending about 8 mos in 0.0 with a real good corp, I got bored of the 0.0 lifestyle and rejoined some old friends in an empire corp. Frankly, there is much more to do in empire, and I like to do a lot of different things, not just the same old ratting or sitting around waiting for a gang stuff. I guess it depends on what you enjoy doing, but yes, 0.0 can get boring. Don't get me wrong, old corp was a great bunch of peeps, it was just that the 0.0 lifestyle is kind of limited.

Find an alliance that suits you. You do not owe anyone anything as this is a game that is played for your enjoyment. Do what you feel is best for your playtime. I would say leave them if you are fed up and find another alliance that fits yer PvP/PvE needs.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think i'll try to join one of the well known merc corps. At least that way i know i'm in good hands.
Recent events pushed me over the edge a little. Last night we got attacked and everyone just sat around watching a hostile fleet come in and do all the damage they wanted and then leave.
I was offline for most of it due to RL stuff, but when i heard i logged on asap to watch the fleet leave.
I got an update asap and found out that basically we laid out the red carpet for them.
I couldn't believe that it was so simple for these hostiles to come in and do what they wanted without any resistance at all.
so my mind is made up. I'm gonna join a Merc Corp.
Right who will have me??? Any Offers? Dont forget this char is an alt and my main is the 38.5m sp pvp char, can fly a dread, with all the capital mods and seige mod, in a couple of hours if i had the finishing skills to train. |

hehe reminds me of that time i trusted in this guy who claimed to be an uber pvp' er (and a lot of peeps in my corp were on about how great of a pvp' er and fleet commander he was bla bla bla so i had no reason to doubt the truth of the matter) so we get into a war and we decide to take on the enemy, i told him, i would just do what he said as he was the fleetcommander, id go where he goes i'd shoot what he tell me to shoot, i'd warp out if he told me to.
So we warp in and there where it all went wrong, only 2 of us jumped into the system (from a 6 man gang cuz he didn't tell the other 4 to follow us) then without looking he tells me to engage ship so and so, so i do, were actually not doing bad 2 ships, his phoon and my cerb vs 3 cruisers and a domi. and just at the point where i'm gonna pop my 1st target he warps out... he leaves me there, he doesn't warp gang, he warps out to save his ship... so i lost me cerb (atleast it was a fight worth losing cuz it took them several minutes to whack my cerb even with 3 cruisers and a domi) But the 'uber great pvp god' turned out to be a organisationally challenged and egotistical moron.
This was the last time i placed my trust and my ship seriously into someone elses hands. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

Well I'm better than everyone in ENIGMA and they know it, but I make do...
Just kidding... I lose the most ships!
The most important part of playing games is having fun, so if you're not, move on. Maybe even try another game for a week or so and come back and see if things have changed! Personally, the main reason I enjoy this game is the people I play with... True we mainly PvP together which is fun, but I've been on a mining op with the same guys before and it's just as exciting and fun with certain gang members playing 'Self-Destruct Chicken' and the leadership is amazing... Chesskiller has to be the best alliance leader in EVE by far...
Anyway... Cut a long story short: Try something else. Piracy? A new corp? A new area? Soloing? A new ship type? A new game? Whatever...
Also, I'll say to you something that our exultant leader (Chesskiller, obviously) always says to us: "Don't complain about a lack of FCs if you're not willing to command yourself." Maybe you should form some gangs? If you're unsure of your leadership skills, start off small with a frigate gang, then move up to interceptors, then disposable cruisers, and you'll be leading BS gangs in no time...

nice to see that i'm not the only one that has been in this situation.
I have tried to be the fleet commander before. Hard to be a fleet commander without a fleet really. Nobody wanted to loin up and defend and fight, so that ended that.
Well fingers crossed i can get into a stable merc corp. |

I will give you some advice.
You are worrying too much. Make friends with anyone who will chat with you. Keep making friends until you find someone who likes to pew pew. Then you get in cheap ships and cruise around. Have fun. Die. Leroy gate camps.
You know play EVE and stop worrying about dying. You can stay in your corp and when they see your out having fun maybe they join you. But who cares just play EVE.
And tip: Merc corps can be demanding of your time. Sounds like you just need more like minded friends.
Good luck :) |

Oh don't get me wrong, there are some guys that are always up for a fight, and we usually do form up and have some fun, but its always the same few and its never enough to fight the big battles.
We can always take on a the small gangs that come in but never anything larger then a 5 man gang (which is a bit pathetic).
It seems that our efforts aren't rubbing off on the rest, and more and more we're seeing the larger gangs move through our space. |

There is a place for quality pilots in a bad corp. Maybe bad is a wrong word, perhaps displacent is slightly better. Lack of direction and for someting that I don't understand but see repeatable is the lack of FC's to get you involved and engaged.
A big part of the game is also the social aspect, you know a few good guys in your current corp and you kinda know them better than most of your RL friends? Well, take them with you! you will find that as a group your also alot more "buyable" on the corp hunting player market and moving your stuff as a group is easier too. Yes you may leave a few behind, but if you don't like it where you are now, then you will just give up all together. Cut your losses and go for it. Whats the worst that can happen?
