The tiger feeding, I don't really see a (massive) problem with. Tigers are natural born killers, if you're going to keep a bunch of them, you can't be too squeamish about letting them kill live food.
The bear stuff was horrific, though. That kind of animal cruelty makes me sick. --------

The tiger scene is simply nature with man's artificial touch.
The bear scene.. man don't ever get me close to one of those guys is all I can say really. -

I have a problem with it as there is an alternative, ie painless death for the animal. Would it be ok if we got a bunch of humans with rocks to go and stone a cow to death, as thats natural.
Also its not like the wild they have no escape. Im a meat eater etc and dont mind animals being used for food...but that just disgusts me, all those idiots sitting there applauding. Might as well be a*****fight or fox hunt.

Being a biologist my view is pretty pragmatic. If the tigers involved are meant to be reintroduced into the wild as part of a breeding programma to save local populations i see live feeding as a prequisite, otherwise the whole endeavour can be quite fruitless since they need to have the ability to fend for themselves at some point. If the animals are bred in captivity for the sole purpose of human entertainment live feeding is not strictly neccessary, however binding human values to all this is pretty silly since the animals do not share them. Human entertainment of this kind can be said to be useless, but something can be said for educational value. ---sig--- Yes I just won the thread. Everyone can now start bowing down to me in an orderly fashion... SIG pic |

Stumbled across a PETA video on youtube earlier, that got my blood boiling..
Video of Chinese and Korean villagers killing cats and dogs for food, pelts etc.. Apparently theres this idea that the more horrific the death for the animal.. the better the meat tastes (no clue if this is true or not, but this is how it was protrayed in the video..) Showed the animals being skinned alive.. One particular clip got me very upset.. showed a dog that was still alive bearly.. with nothing only bear flesh left its entire skin was removed.. and was just flailing about..
I'll be honest about this.. My dog is considered family.. Id have no qualms about gutting anyone who hurt him or any other member of my family.. And to see animals being tortured in this way really brought home the thought that humans have a long way to go before they can ever be considered civilised or "humane"

Difference being in the wild the prey at least theorethically has a chance at escape, here there's none, therein lies the cruelty.

I have to say I find the responses to this video somewhat hypocritical. Given the abuse of animals in western society for food production and medical science, to point the finger at Chinese zoos, is a bit much. Also if we look at the conditions of our own zoos until fairly recently, the living conditions weren't that much better, in fact in many cases worse.

The sad fact is, China can do whatever they want, and no one can stop them, not even "the mighty USA". China are too powerful

i doubt even America could invade a country on the pretext of 'protecting the animals from being eaten by other animals'.
and they've got form.

Hey dude, farming them for food upsets you, imagine how Indians feel about US cattle ranchers. That's a perspective thing. Get over it.
As far as the tiger thing, well, there are lesser evils. It should be noted that tigers are NOT pack animals naturally. A group take down like that is anything but natural, as in the wild, they'd tear each other apart for trying to take it from them.
For the bear part, you can say that about any circus style environment.
This is my sig, there are many others just like it. With me, my sig is worthless. Without (or with even) my sig, I am worthless... |
