Finito!
The final result of our voting is as follows:
1. Nova Z (100mil isk!)
2. Mikala Mara (25 mil isk!)
3. Antithysis, Tajidan and jamesb (sent by eve-mail), Honorary 3rd place.
A lot of contributions got points in our internal vote, which means a great deal of banners were appreciated by our members. In the end, Nova Z won by a decent margin. I will be contacting the prize winners about payment at latest tomorrow, possibly also discussing additions or extra services connected to the banner(s) we might like to agree upon.
Thank you everyone! o7

Gratulations to you Nova and Mikala Mara as well as my fellow 3rd Rankers Very nice Banners.
tbh, i thought i bagged this one since its directly related to the use of it, although its more like a announcement painting than a banner. i really like the lots of the commissions, but i wanna give away a shy rant to the designer community.
Lets create some works with more content, do not just go the easy way and slap your fancy Filters on it, lets all go deeper and create amazing stuff whith the very essence which defines the client or his corp/alliance.
I hope you guys understand me, and dont take this as a "ididntwintheothersareallcrap" because the opposite is happening.
Again, congratulations to everyone, really amazing Stuff. and dont forget: "Push it to the limit!"

Edited by: Spike Larosse on 14/06/2007 10:21:07 Yeah, there was good stuff in there for sure. Both in terms of nicely composed images/fonts, aswell as the more original and fun pieces like Tajidan. I think the originality and humour of your work is what almost got you the prize. Ofc huge bonus for putting my beautiful figure up for display in an orderly manner!
There were contributions that were never displayed here aswell, so the competition was even a bit stiffer than you might think. Since I don't know if the artist(s) want me to, I will refrain from publishing those contributions.
I'll try to contact the winners tonight, had a lot of carrier killing yesterday so there was just no time.

Okay, as one of the winners I feel I have to respond to this... (and sorry for hijacking your thread, Spike!)
For starters I never, ever, simply take an image and then use filters. All my graphics are built up using renders, backgrounds, blending, brushwork etc etc. Every designer here has their personal style so it's not exactly fair to say widely that we should be doing 'this' when some specialise in the art of simplicity whilst others here create amazing works of complexity. I also don't think that content is the be-all and end all of designs - why clutter up a simple layout with unnecessary stuff?
At the end of the day, the variety in artist styles on these forums means that client frequently receive a wide variety of designs to choose from. By voting internaly, RSP were able to choose for themselves the design that best matched their vision. How can any of us to say what is right or wrong with a design, so long as the client receives something they're happy with?
/me goes back into lurk mode

Hehe, don't worry Nova, the competition is over, so I guess a discussion about it and the art of banner making in general is an appropriate conclusion.

hehe yeah, i fully agree with you that everyone has his very own style of accomplishing a job, i also fully agree that in the end the client is the one who decides which one they take. i dont want to critisize any working or personal styles, thats not in my hands to judge.
but let me explain why i came up with the lil rant ^^ as a independent graphic designer i work for all sorts of clients, all of them got completely different requirements. before i can make something for them though, i need to get a grip of what makes this company to the company it is, i need to get the essence, the personality of that firm. I cant begin with my work before i have an idea of all that, its like building a house, you cant build it without having a good solid fundament otherwise it will sink in the mud or break down.
And thats exactly what i was trying to point out, i feel like that this is kinda missing in our ranks. And that it is like this, that sometimes I have the feeling that its just "something" and not a completed Design.
It should not be understanded as a complaint or critic to any of the submissions, only something i observed. i wish that it is be taken as a constructional critic, push the limits, lets profit from that in the way that we can learn from eachother and do just good Designs for our customers ^^
sry for the hijack too

I hear what your saying Tajidan, but unlike yourself may of us buding photoshop artists simply haven't had or got the training to piece together complex creations like yourself...
Having said that one way for us part-timers to gain experiance is through the format of 'Photoshop battling' Fancy a few rounds m8 ?
Umm now were did I leave my photoshop for dummies book.......... ............

Unfortunately the problem with trying to arrange battles on these forums comes down to voting - you can't have open voting because people could log in with alts, and just how fair is having a panel of judges? .

First off, congratz to the winners. Nova was as always, my favourite in this one as well
Second issue: Taijdan. I think your putting too much into these contest, by asking us all to go in depth, and find out the soul of the product we are supposed to do. Not all of us, live and breath webdesign/graphic for a living. Im entering just for the fun of it, knowing Im a poor amateur, compared to many of the designers in here. I know some of product are crap, and sometimes (more rarly) I have produced something good, but Im not loosing any sleep over it.
As Nova said, we all work and approach thing differently, and if your really into design as a work, you should KNOW, that in a design phase in professional companies, nobody critizies (contstructive or negative) a teammembers contribution, but write it down anyway. The point of doing that is that one mans crap idea, can spark another mans good idea.
In short, the contests in this forum are a great learning process by wathcing each other, and learn by each others submissions. Nothing more, nothing less.
(Excuse my crap spelling, Im a Norwegian.)

Edited by: Jalal on 14/06/2007 18:52:07 How about a drunken street brawl, bare knuckle photoshop fight. No votes, no panels just raw talent (or lack of in my case), see were it ends up. Tbh I'm suprised an EvE battle post hasn't been tried yet but maybe its because of the reason you gave above Nova, btw your banner was my fav aswell.. Anyways I'd love to see what an EvE battle/tennis match would throw up

/signed Jalal, i really would love to do a Photoshop-battle, there was an attempt for one a few weeks ago but the op couldnt define it right so it fell into the water. Sign me in when you open one.
To the others, i hope i didnt make you mad or anything i just wanted to let you know how i think about good design and how I think it is made of.

Tajidan you got a PS Battle then m8.... I`ve got a round 1 pic ready to post but i`m unsure as to the size allowed on these forums for picture posting, not sigs.......... Once i get clarification on the above it`ll be game on, maybe you know?
Anway the rules are simple, just use an element or the full pic/previous submission to make up your entry..... Maybe use a 24 hour or no limit rule, its up to......Ah each round must use elements from eve online
So if your up for it i`ll start a new post and try a few rounds with ya ....

yo FA - I liked your second banner. It was laid out very well. Consider the text which you harp on me so much about and the bio hazard emblem - you could have found a better one to use. that emblem wasnt made by you so I cant put that on you other than the fact you used it. Nice work chump hehe -
get off the test server.......

i really dig your sig man very clean, very simple, verry stylish.
The 2nd banner (the one with the drake and the apoc) i thought had a bit of a unfortunate layout. It made the ships look like a undock accident. Maybe a nice Fleet-screen would do the job better, one that captures the ships like they would warp out of the center of the image.

Yeah, I wasnt too pleased with my apoc render, but the megathron I had fit even less. And yes, I do see what you mean, a fleet screen would work. Huh, thanks for the tip bud.
