Well if you can eliminate that it's a problem with your comp or modem, then I suggest asking your isp for advise.

Thats a new one. Your connection to your ISP is completely independent of Eve. The only thing I can think of if if you are using a PPPOE connection maybe the client software for that is not working properly with Eve.
Is your DSL using PPPOE or is it a noraml bridged connection? If you have a user name and password to connect to the DSL service it's probably PPPOE. Are you using a router or is your computer connected directly to the ADSL modem? (yes I know it's not REALLY a modem).
Take a look at www.speedguide.net and apply the registry tweaks for DSL to your operating system, that might help some.
Whos your ADSL provider?

Provider is BT.
It goes through a USB Modem and yes i think your right the connection used is PPOE.

I had the same problem with my BT connection, I had the first voyager modem which BT swapped out for their new one, still had the line drop - if you look at the up\down stream on yout task bar I'm betting that it comes up with "training modem". I have now swapped over to a Netgear DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router, it works with BT broadband ISP and gets rid of that nasty modem... hope this helps.

As a *T enginer my self i can safly say...BT modems suck ass....the voyager especialy, its crap. Thing is if you report it as a fult you may end up paying out more in call out charges then you would for a new modem or router, i sugget you do as quote. . . and before any one moans at me about *T being crap and they want free ADSL ...*runs out the door* "Botehred" Omen (Bad Omen I-X ) (R.I.P) Maller (Unnameable I) (R.I.P) Typhoon (Red Dwarf I) (R.I.P) Tempest (Reighous Endvor) (R.IP)

Ah ha... USB DSL modem. bad. very bad. Get yourself a netowrk card and a DSL modem that attaches to that via ethernet. USB modems are very very flakey. There are just way to many different flavors of USB ports, manufacturers, and drivers and implimentations under windows. If you mess with it long enough you might be able to get it to work but in the long run you will be much more happy with a modem that connection to your computer via an ethernet connection.

Edited by: Robinb on 19/01/2004 12:23:52 Steve - your not the only only one - I have the same frigging problem. I managed to get mine 'stable - ish' by playing in fullscreen mode, and have no other programs open - apart from a few, just trial and see what happens.
Main problem for me thou is I want winamp loaded when I play eve - but it keeps crashing :( - anyone got any ideas? (winamp 5)
I am going to speak to *T myself now - but I don't want to spend úxxx on a new modem when it is not my fault!!!
If anyone finds a workaround, please say.

--addon: ok, just got off the phone, and their saying it is sommit to do with power managment (yea, right....) and they cannot do anything about it. So, a new modem is required, correct? Any suggestions?

Wipe cache. I have had similar problems with my 56k, and that cache seems to be the source of the problem (with no other solution). I just wrote a post which will be almost the same as this, so here's a quote from it: This (deleting cache) may force you to take about 20 minutes to log in, but it should allow you to log in. For me, this problem had no other solution. Updating, messing with hardware, reinstalling, redoing all the patches, ect... had no effect.
On my system (with a 56k modem), it would force my modem to disconnect (exact same time every time. It was at 'got races', and refused to show my characters or the news, but that little spinning icon in the news window kept spinning. I have no idea what that icon means), and then Eve would crash. I had a post detailing the problem (and I mean detailed) more than a month ago, but havn't been able to find it. The bug may come back every day, but the game works after the cache is deleted (atleast for me, but this only happened for a week).
This bug is OLD, probably the second or third bug I've had with Eve (so, it's probably been around since a month after Eve's release).
Fortunatly, the bug seems to go away, as I havn't had this error for more than a month. When you delete cache, your biggest problem will be the eve-mails, none of which will appear to be read. Read them, and delete anything you don't need to keep (delete the character from the menu if you can, this saved me a lot of time). It's a pain to go through 300 messages when someone says "all our corp plans are detailed in the mail we all got about 4 days ago, make sure you read it".

Just an addon: the same thing happens when I play Earth and Beyond.... Except I can put a 30 sec redial on so it can connect to the server, then my BB modem to the server.. and I can carry on..
