I'm having the same issue described here since about two days, at about the same time (2200 - 2300 eve time).
Details: When I start the client, it keeps displaying the message "Checking status" for a long time, and then it displays "Status Unknown". It's not a problem with my connection, as i can navigate, post here and use Teamspeak with no problems at all. Also, the client can fetch the news and MOTD, but don't let me connect. This also happens with Singularity, but if I click on Singularity many times _sometimes_ it gets the # of players and the download patch message, but no matter how many times I try that on tranquility, or close and reopen the client, or reboot the machine, Tranquility doesn't come "live" for me.
So far this hasn't happened at other times. I *think* that if i leave the client by itself, without touching it or changing server, it gets "Online" and # of players, but it happens several minutes/hours later.
I am running XP, in an Athlon XP with 1GB, Radeon X850XT, drivers and patches up to date. In fact, nothing has changed in my setup from a long time ago. I was running Eve just fine.
Plz help me with this. Thanks...

There is probably a device out there somewhere that is dropping TCP sessions, which would explain why pings are working fine. |

I had a similar problem quite some time ago and spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting. What I found to eventually resolve the issue was that I was using a software firewall on my computer (Zonelabs ZoneAlarm). For some reason, when an EVE patch/update is deployed, the firewall no longer recognized the new eve.exe file as an allowed application. I know it sounds weird, but I removed the previously allowed EVE.exe entries in the firewall and let ZoneAlarm re-alert me of an app attempting to connect to the Internet, of which I then 'allowed', and wah-lah, I had a server status and could connect without problems until the next patch was deployed.
Couple of points to take into consideration, this may only be relative to ZoneAlarm or software firewalls as it is the only time it has ever happened to me. This did not occur on machines where I had a hardware firewall/router on the network. And it only occurred after CCP published an update that I had to download and install. Nonetheless it was very reproducable and fixable.
Hope this helps.

I would like to note that the packet loss was not from my computer. it was from the ISP before CPP's machines...
since its hard to read I thought I might explain a bit
my ISP is *.eu.net [193.80.95.10]
its then handed to *.sprintlink.net which has no loss on both routes
on the first route the packet loss starts here... and everything after has some degree of packet loss because it still needs to get routed through this IP ge-6-13.car1.Frankfurt1.Level3.net [4.68.111.141] 7 of 17 packets were lost
second route tge1-2.fr4.lon.llnw.net [69.28.171.50] 5 of 16 packets were lost
this type of loss at the end of the traceroutes are not due to firewalls and such...
since my traceroutes are from about the time of the original guys post (within 30min), they are possibly the problem.
I would hope CCP would investigate this because having 2 routes to their game servers are useless if they both fail at the same time...

The problem keeps happening, and about the same time.
I happen to use Zone Alarm, but if that were the problem it would not let me connect at _any_ time, and I can connect at some times. Just for the sake of the argument, I tried what you suggested, and even disabled it and tried again... nothing.
Still waiting to hear some answers to this.

Ping and Tracert just tell me "host unreachable" as of this morning. Been able to log on and play 10 hours earlier just fine. |

Edited by: Henry Sworddew on 01/06/2007 14:30:26 same here, arcor (germany). traceroute to eve-online.com doesn't work - host unreachable. strange thing: i can use my browser, but maybe there is some kind of cache for this.
worked fine yesterday, no can do since downtime.
