Could I pratically be able to have a character mine and run missions or would I'd need to choose one ot the other?

You can train whatever you want so yes you can train for both mining and mission running. -----

Edited by: CaptainSeafort on 05/06/2007 23:17:36 speaking as a Hulk flying miner, Dominix flying missioner, Helios flying prober, and Enyo flying petty-ratter, as well as a perfect refiner, and R+D/Manufacturing GOD, id have to say that ya, it is possible ;)
just gotta accept itll take time
EDIT: not forgetting my oneiros, or my skilling for a rokh, or my hyper-fast inty, etc =D

Training a character to do 2 things excellently is not a problem in EVE, it is when you want a 'Jack Of All Trades' when you should be worried.
So, yea, as others mentioned you will be just fine if you specialize in one or two particular fields. Just don't try to fly all over the place buying skills w/o rhyme or reason and plugging them in. Make a 6 Month Plan, and stick to it, it will make you a good character.

Edited by: Mudkest on 06/06/2007 18:41:20 only penalty there is to doing both is a bit longer training time before you are effective(can trian to be effective at mining but then fighting will not advance much, or vice versa)
anyway there's no skillpoint limit, no combat penalty if you ahve high industry skill or whatever. just can trian 1 skill at a time so time spend training mining wont benefit your combat abilities.
anyway, I can fly all mini/galante/caldari frigates(with t2 fittings), barges, mini battleships, caldari/minmatar cruisers. Have good trade skills, manufactering and science skills and am also an explorer and recon pilot :p
anyway you can do both, but I sugest picking one for now and focus training skills on that first. will benefit you more to be good miner then start on mission running(can rely on mining for funding) then be medioric at both, loose a ship and have a hard time replacing it cause you cant do much.(or be able to do lvl3 missions and then start mining so you can fund those skills/ships and not be in trouble if you loose your covetor)

I can fly a hulk i can use t2 strip miners i can fly pvp carriers i can fire and fly all things t2 gallente i have level 5 industry and refining skills i have a high level RD agent i have lvl 5 in all support pvp skills 2
so yes possible and doable, but mine happened as iv been here a damned while and started off mining and was oh cool and had excellent skills, then decided i will do missions so now have all the skills for that. then moved to 0.0 and became full time pvp
i now frit between pvp and missions for money :) its all good.
just dont train bits of everything, train for one thing when complete move over to another one :)

More or less where I'm at now and am extremely happy with my character.
I switch between mining (usually when I just want to chill out) and missions (when I want to kill some heathen dogs). ------

I have a character that does both. Has a Hulk and runs Level IV in a Dominix. The drone skills cross-over quite nicely.

Beauty of this game is that you can do whatever you want to. Better than that, you can do anything you can imagine.
