Edited by: Mzilikazi on 07/06/2007 19:39:32 I just had an idea, though perhaps others have had it before me. CCP should run a killboard website alongside this website, and somehow linked to the game. In fact its surprising that this has not happened already. True its another cost for CCP but I'm sure if they see a lot of support for the idea they may do something about it.
It would be 100% accurate and there for the world to see. In fact it would allow interested non-aligned parties to see how wars are really progressing. Anybody curious about how the Bob & Pets against the Coalition war is going, well you'll have to look at a half dozen websites to get a vague idea.

A simple reply:
NO
we have enough people griefing noobs for a killmai, there is no need to encurage them.

There are already loads killboards out there so how does having an accurate one encourage MORE 'griefing' of noobs? The idea is just to have one central one and the fact is there are a lot of genuine pvpers who don't 'grief' noobs who might like one central killboard.
Are there any constructive comments out there?

Having on official CCP Killboard provides an incentive to cause even more grief and damage, by less scrupulous players. This idea has been proposed hundreds of times, and has been shut down by the devs over and over again, just like the idea that Implants should be salvageable from the corpses - because it will promote more indiscriminate poddings.
Sorry, if you want to kill something, post it on your own k-b. No reason to add more e-peen to the game than it already has.

Hmmm, let me think... well if the devs say so I guess it must be right! Right? Wrong, I disagree. Whilst there are unscrupulous players out there, there is no evidence to suggest that the majority of players who currently enjoy their PvP normally and post on their own killboards would suddenly become griefers. Its depriving the majority of normal players a useful resource because of abuse by a few. That can't be right or fair.
A way of working around abuse might be to ensure that no shuttle, noob ship or NPC corp kill/pod mails are accepted by the system?
Sorry,... no actually I'm not sorry, I haven't seen all these hundreds of proposals you mention that have been shut down by devs, and though no doubt they exist, its still a good idea to have a CCP killboard and worth going over again (and again) until it happens.

No, it's not been shot down by the devs. It's shot down by people who are poor PvPers, who think they can hide where they're fighting or their setups.
It's ridiculous that you can't link killboards here, and for that reason alone we need an official killboard yesterday.

As an interim, I believe they're going to give killmail downloads via MyEVE..not sure if it will just be personal, corp, alliance or public... ------------------- Brainstorm ideas to make EVE better:->http://eve.stormingbrains.org/index.php

They have said that they will be using a killboard for the next alliance PVP championship iirc, so its possible they might go the whole hog and get one for Eve as a whole.
Also there was also a post by Oveur sometime ago that said they might let you loot corpses for implants. So never say never.

Poor how exactly?
I and many peeps I've flown with have used our enemies remarkably public killboards to garner all sorts of intel, such as who flys what, where they're fighting and much more besides.
Which is why we always kept ours private... of course our enemys kill board might be public and if they are posting both their loses and kills then everything would be available too there but thats a lot of if's...
So if CCP were to have an official killboard then there needs to be options to restrict access to corp or alliance members, otherwise it just becomes another unintended intel tool.... |

It would make people think someone is only a good pvp'er if he is in the top XXX of the eve kb rankinglist.
People will start pvp'ing just to get higher in the ranks instead of pvp'ing for fun.
It would ruin some of the fun of eve imo.

Edited by: Tony Benn on 08/06/2007 17:16:59 Edited by: Tony Benn on 08/06/2007 17:16:22 This could be an interesting replacement for the silly sec-status and bounty systems. For obvious reasons, it's not applicable to 0.0:
Every time you kill someone, the value of their ship (and/or clone, if relevant) is added to your bounty. Every time you lose a ship, your bounty is reset to 0 and paid to your executioner.
Combine this with the removal of NPC rat bounty, and we have a very nice little system to make people WANT to fight, and to make a living as a privateer. People who don't want to fight will not gain a bounty, and as such will not be tempting targets - those who do become fair game.

You'd have to eliminate insurance to prevent this from becoming a whirling cycle of isk creation.

Yup. You'd also have to not pay out bounties when killed by a gang/corp/alliance member, or a noob corp member. If what's needed is another ISK sink, then there's always the possibility of CONCORD claiming your bounty should you enter highsec - but personally, the whole sec thing is the most deplorable part of the current arrangement.
The real advantage here would be the "public" killboard. It would stop a lot of pointless bickering that serves only to foul the atmosphere of what is, at the end of the day, a game.

Edited by: PeyloW on 09/06/2007 00:37:04 Killboard is fine, just add a column for the killers courage!
A player killing 10.000 defenceless victims would be high on the list, but clearly marked for the coward he or she is.
A player killing 10 equals, or even better opponents would get equal credit for the skill, and courage.
That way I think a killboard would be used for good. A competition among those who wants to compete. Not a hunt for easy prey.

Please give us an official killboard that is 100% accurate all the time for everyone with many options to sort and search and review every sort of detail about pilots, corps, and alliances. I would spend so much time messing around with it. RISE Recruitment Thread

Perhaps determination of rankings on any proposed CCP killboard should be determined by "tonnage" multiplied by a factor of difficulty destroyed rather than by the number of ship kills or poddings completed. Thus destroying a dangerous PvP ship of high mass would add to your rankings immensely whilst destroying a Mining Barge of equivalent mass would add say 1% of that gain.
All ships have a mass which would be the basis for determining how much has been destroyed in weight. The difficulty factor could be say x1 for a Tech 1 ship, x2 for a Tech 2 ship and x2.5 for a faction ship and x0.01 for a Tech 1 mining barge. Another factor could be the number of attackers destroying the target. So if a gate camping gang of 10 ships destroyed say a Machariel, the above calculation would be made for each player and the result for each player divided by 10. In effect destroying a large ship whilst in a large gang negates you ranking gain on the killboard by 90%.
Like I mentioned earlier at a gate camp situation a sniping Eagle with 3xSB is a killmail collector as it gets all those pods, shuttles and t1 frig kills. So an Eagle pilot in that situation would have to kill like a few thousand shuttles to match a Eagle pilot who has hypothetically killed a Hyperion.
So how good you are would be determined by how good the ship of your opponent is compared to yours, and by the number of people who contributed to its destruction.

The simple solution would be to only show kills relevant to the player, and not show a ranking table - this would effectively turn eve into space-golf; the only person to beat is yourself - but allow searching, so one may lookup the statistics on a player to compare to themselves, their corp mate or whatever but prevent people from indiscriminately killing just to up their ranking.
This would allow it to be used as a tool for verifying killmails, but not a system to allow one to **** over their current "score": Eve doesn't need a scoreboard. -- Fix Caldari Fix Insurance |

That is actually a good idea, yet rankings are clearly of interest to many if you have a look at the arrangement of current killboards. As for this notion of indiscriminate killing and 'griefing' of nooblets, that only goes on in low sec, no sec and during wars. In any circumstance outside of this Concord interevenes. This is what the security system has been designed to encourage. People go where the PvP is and want to destroy as much as possible because that is fun. It is predominantly a PvP orientated game and I think people need to get used to that idea because carnage is what drives a lot of players to play the game. They also like to know (for what ever Freudian reason) who is the better pilot.

I'm sure they'll keep running their own killboards, too. This will allow them to compare e-peen with their corp/alliance mates, but would prevent the "political incidents" started over a difference between corp killboards - one could always confirm the matter with CCP.
I think I might have hit on the reason why no such killboard is forthcoming though; political intrigue is good for CCP! -- Fix Caldari Fix Insurance |

Don't call it a killboard. Call it the police blotter. Since CONCORD is apparently omniscient, all kills should be a matter of public record.
But I don't think it should be a website, available as ingame information only. Sincerely, K'reemy ---

Although, I think every corporation should have the option of blocking others from seeing what ships there flying and what modules there flying with.
