I don't see a news thread about it, so let me be the first to break the news...
Seems the EON Awards has been canceled. I'm quite disappointed about this. Was really looking forward to getting dressed up and have a geeky night out :(

You know, I completely took that for granted cause I actually live in London. That really sucks.

Can this get some glue paste for a while, till a proper announcement comes out. I'd hate to think people are still organizing plane tickets and such.

I'm not one for having a go at CCP or MMM because best part of the time they do a kick ass job, but this is beyond a joke.
The most annoying thing for me in this to be honest is that the announcement was made on the OFFICIAL GAME FORUMS by a PLAYER, not a member of CCP or MMM.
There's no news announcement, no sticky thread by someone from CCP with confirmation and instruction how to get a refund, nothing.
Had maruud not posted, a fair few people might not have noticed for a couple of days and possibly missed out on avoiding cancellation fees.
This comes after the final voting was postponed for more than a week without anyone even posting regarding what or why.
Communication between CCP and the playerbase has been completely shocking over the last couple of months.

For the tickets no doubt, not the peoples travel arrangements.

Yeah, but this way you could belt out an annoyingly long acceptance speech in front of zillions. :)
Josh wasn't coming, it would have been one of the other Coreli guys.

Dev Blog posted that I hope explains things a bit (2007.06.08 13:39:36 - it kinda got stuck in the admin queue). There is no intention to leave anyone out of pocket on this, or leave any bad blood. The decision to cancel was taken by MMM and should have no bearing on CCP. Please contact us via email and we'll do all we can to answer specific grievances.

No Offence, but that doesn't tell us any more than whats on the EON Awards site. Are we going to automagically get refunded the ticket amounts, or do we have to contact you? I'm assuming people that have other expenses will have to contact you.

I also think you are very wrong here. You guys pay these guys to a do a job for you. Yes they didn't do it properly and that does reflect badly on them, but so does it for you. ***** your whip harder next time or maybe you should find a new publishing house.

I don't think anyone is complaining about not being mailed first. The issue is that there was no announcement on Eve-Online.com by anyone concerned, it was just dropped on a site that a lot of people haven't even seen before (I ordered tickets and hadn't even seen www.eonawards.com until I saw the cancellation linked, I just got them straight from the link in the Sales Thread, like a lot of people I know did.)
Still, it's nice to get a response eventually. There's an ass load of planning down the drain for everyone, MMM included.
Tbh the Tour de France needs to sod off back to Normandy, it's not called the "Tour de Europe" for a bloody reason.
