Just saw it on Channel 4 here in the U.K. I really enjoyed it and found it quite unique. Weird story and quite depressing throughout but kept me gripped.
What are your opinions on the film?
Did you enjoy it or was it "just another film"?

If I had known that ****** violent kid he would have got battered. It was nice to see Ashton Kutcher acting, however amy smart looking like a hobo isn't quite so good. Good movie tbh.

It was pretty decent (saw it at the cinema way back when). I preferred the DVD version (Director's cut, I guess) though- the ending was better. The ending of the cinema version didn't really sit right with me. The DVD ending tied up a bunch of things that the cinema version didn't, kinda implying that it was the way it was MEANT to end, but they chickened out. --------

Was dam spiffy, really loved the ending, and although I despise Ashton Kuchter(sp?) he was barable in it (still would have been better with a good actor)

The end scene where Ashton uses the video to go back in time shows the birth where he dies. I also prefer this ending, even though it is depressing.
Anyone see the sequel? I didn't even know it existed, but I'm thinking it's just a film to rake in the pennies and lacking content like most sequels do. ---

He goes back and kills himself in the womb, making himself a still birth like all his unborn siblings his mum told him about., Implying that they all had a very similar experience to him, and ended up with the same conclusion.

I thought it was very poorly done. It was an interesting concept that had potential but it wound up being let down by an ambiguous and shoddy plot.

I remember taking a chick (blonde) to see this movie a couple/few years ago...
She absolutely loved the movie.
The rest of the night i was trying to figure out which was more intellectually devoid..... her or the movie.

Director's cut has a much better ending.

It was full of plot holes and a whole bunch of moments where I was left wondering "WTF, why didn't he just...". It's like in horror movies when a chick finally hits the bad guy over the head, the bad guys lying on the floor, and she just walks away without pounding his head in, and then the bad guy gets up and attacks her again. Besides that, it was decent.

But its ok for one of them to be intellectually devoid but not the other.

Nothing irks me more than the action / horror movie mentality. It appears you finally killed the evil demon / psychopath / whatever has been chasing you this whole movie? DISMEMBER IT. You shot the 10 bad guys who were pimping AR-15s, and all you used was a Glock 19? PICK UP AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON AND ABOUT 200 ROUNDS, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED THEM. The bad guy starts ranting on about his evil plan or giving some variant melodramatic speech? TWO IN THE CHEST, ONE IN THE HEAD.
The worst ever was in the movie Man's Best Friend. People are getting killed left and right, and the cop hears a noise under the porch. He reaches past the handgun, past the shotgun, and gets... his flashlight.

i went to see it at the cinema when it first came out with a couple of mates. Them all being narrow minded and just plain stupid, thought the whole film was stupid, crap, g4y, you name it, simply because one of the characters was a paedophile. That really annoyed me, cus i found it to be a very good film, really enjoyed it, and tbh its probably one of my favourite films of all time, im a little miffed i missed it last night actually, ill have to dig my DVD out and watch it tonight.
Think i possibly enjoyed it more, since i hadnt ever watched That 70's show or anything else where Kutcher was playing a comedy character, so i didnt have him cast psychologically in that role

Yea, I have to agree with the above. I really liked it, and I did prefer the director ending. Its one of those movies that surprises you, as I didnt have high hopes for it at all before I saw it. Like Donnie Darko, etc.
The one thing that spoils this film, is that they made a sequel, "Butterfly effect 2" which is the biggest load of crap.

Why does everybody say it's "unique"? It's just a standard time-traveler-trying-to-change-crap-and-fails-until-he-sacrifices-his-own-happiness story. Seen that in startrek already, in back to the future, in "The Time Machine" (doh), ... only thing that changes is the timetravelling device. WHY THE HELL SHOULD THAT MOVIE BE UNIQUE?

Its not unique per se, but it is a bit of fresh air in the staid old world of Hollywood. --------

I'd rather have them think it's unique than 'pretty' or 'rather' unique, either it is or it isn't it's an absolute term, there's no shades of unique.
I liked it, way more creative than much of the supposed plots we see out there, I don't know what Mr Date above expected to see and I do wonder how often this guy is content with the movie picked? The phrase once in a blue moon comes to mind.
