this has most likely been addressed before so keep yer flames in check if the case.
Why don't skills apply progressively as they increase? after all when i study i don't suddenly know a topic after reading a book... i learn progressively and am aware of the pluses way before i put that book away...
can't it be the same with skills? would that be too hard to implement in the game?

It used to be in the game and people abused it so it was taken out.

i fail to see how one can abuse progressing as they make the effort to learn...

If by progressive learning you mean getting SPs in a specific skill as you use modules etc that require that skill (getting weapon SPs as you use that weapon), it was in, and it was exploited.
People could just stay logged in 24/7 and MWD/fly/shoot etc and get SPs for being AFK. --- in EVE - Idara |

I trained up hull upgrades 5 without even realizing it, just by doing courier missions. Switching from high speed (overdrives) to high cargo (cargo expanders) back and forth on my indy several times per day did the trick.
Ah, those were the days...
(though we didn't have advanced learning skills back then, and I'm not sure if implants had been introduced yet)

You guys are thinking something else. What he meant was that for example half way between level 4 and level 5 getting half the bonus of level 5 and slowly getting the bonus instead of all of sudden getting it once you hit level 5. Progressive as in every sp makes a small bit of difference.

interesting, but probably a lot more trouble to program and keep going.
think of the lag with the server changing the damage mod of all of your guns every second? not by something Visible, or even Noticable, but a tiny change in the huge .4535345356345 string.
replace "gun" with anything effected by a skill you might be training, of course.

I'd rather see your attributes increase over time.
1 point per year.

It would be more realistic that way. But realism for realism's sake isn't particularly attractive in this game. If it could be done with little difficulty or effort, maybe, but otherwise... meh. I guess it is simply a matter of whether or not enough people care about it.

The "People fitting a Civilian Autocannon to shoot at asteroids while AFK to increase their gunnery skills" kind of abuse. :)

Edited by: Brutus Proqqus on 13/06/2007 12:18:49 younger characters should be able to learn faster then older characters just like IRL :p
Kids learn languages uber fast for instance. But it takes old people ages to learn how to use a computer. Also, the mind becomes poluted over the years ;p
Would be a fun idea to make newer players get into the game faster imo :)

same here and yes that was before implants - you could max out your skills at +5 then ...
