Well it's getting close to that time of buying a new computer. So I put together some stuff. Tell me what you think and if I can improve on anything without spending too much more. $1400-$1500 is my limit.

As much as most computer people dislike it, people will eventually move over to vista.
4GB isn't gonan do him any harm if he uses XP it'll jsut be a waste of cash, but it will help if he plans to use a version of vista
As for teh motherboard, Ive not been hearing good things when it comes to overclocking the 680i's if you plan to overclock would recommened going witht eh asus commando or what ever its called over there

I will be using XP and Ubuntu. Eventually moving from XP to Vista when there is enough incentive to do so. Will be using it as a standard computer as well as for gaming.
I know all 4gb won't be used but I think its good to have. Later on I could switch to 64bit (once it gets more support)

What in the world does this have to do with XP and Vista? Neither XP nor Vista 32-bit support more than 3GB of memory.
Vista 64-bit and XP 64-bit support 4GB and more.
It has absolutely nothing to do with XP or Vista, it has to do with whether its 32 or 64 bit.

The comments were based on the assumption, he would either be using an old copy of XP which is likely to be a 32bit edition, or buying a new one which will most likely be 64bit,

I plan on getting 32bit to start with. When 64bit becomes more supported all it would take is a switch in motherboard and processor(and OS). The rest of the parts could stay.
I know the technical issues. The windows kernel gets 1 and the apps get the the other 3.
Hubbins wishes 64bit support gets better fast.
