Starting a new corporation is hard...and I am sure for a new starting player finding a corp can be hard. I was curious what new players found attractive when looking for a corporation to join?
This is specically directed torwards NEW PLAYERS so I hope the devs can leave this here for a bit because the only thing I get in the Corporations channel is flames and insults. :/

Arrange some corporate mining sessions where profit is split equally by all participating members. Hopefully you have someone with a BS or cruiser, and someone with a hauler in your corp. This will make the participating members some quick bucks.
Also, newbies are in dire need of skill books Give them skill books (or money for the skillbooks they want)
If they still have the default beginner ship, give them a better one...
Uhm, not sure what else.. I'm sure someone else knows a lot more than me about this subject

New players need two things:
1) Money, and lots of it. The corp I joined (Shall remain nameless to avoid advertising) does this by arranging mining contracts and we get paid equally on what we sell. My next "Paycheck" is going to be for over 1 mill and that's in two days! Great cash.
1.b) Incase you don't trust them to do the right things with the money, give them free stuff instead, like free skill books, or financing for a better ship.
2) Advice New players need advice. The help system in the game isn't very good (It's somewhat helpful when you know how to search it) but for many complicated things it's not. Show them how to fight, how to use shield boosters and stuff. What skills they should train, that kind of thing. -----------------------------------

Edited by: Maeglin Elensar on 14/01/2004 12:51:44 One of the things I recommend is a website. Even if players in MMORPG's aren't as interested in websites as say players from other types of games, websites do help. It's like a shiney office that they can walk into, or a huge office building that towers over a street.
But of course some people can't make websites, so if you can't, either try to make one that would serve the purpose, or try to compensate via other forms ingame. For one, alot of people hate corps that use secure anchorable cans to advertise, I don't recommend that method.
One way to get players, is to go into the starting system and help players out. Toss out a few free frigate modules (Usually wouldn't cost you much) and maybe even pull up a big ship and offer all the ore you mine to the public. Sortof an ad. campain if you would..
It's not annoying like the cans, and it gets the job done. Players will either check your corp in your info, or if they don't know how, they'll ask and be more interested in joining.
Another way also, is to provide security cover in lower security systems (Like 0.6-0.5) for new players so they can mine things like Omber and Kernite, to give them a bit of funding in their pockets. It's not totally charity (some people hate being given stuff) but it is still helping.
Not sure if those are viable, but I know if I was a new player, and someone helped out in those ways, I'd be more complied to join their corp over a big name or some other one I see tagged onto a can by a gate.

Edited by: buzzy on 20/01/2004 18:17:00 Ok - I'm a noob - and here is my 2ISK worth
1) A website that is up to date: loads of corps have websites but most are dead, drifting pieces of internet archiology !
2) A Charter - detailing what the corp expects from members and what member can expect from the corp (pref contained on the website above)
3) Active forms on website (key word being active - if I post a noob question I will trust a corp member giving a response)
4) A free and open Corp - members should not feel bound and obliged to the corp - they should have some degree of autonomy. The corp should exist for its members - not the other way around !! (otherwise it tends to turn into the *real* world !!)
.... hmmmm ... thats me done !
hope it helps ...

"Come on God. Answer me. For years I am asking you why. Why are the innocent dead and the guilty alive? Where is justice? Where is punishment? Or have you already answered? Have you already said to the world, here is justice, here is punishment, here..............in me"

This works as well
Say 2 the noobies that the corp will give em al they need if they do corp events.. (mining, hauling, combat or whatever the corps agenda is)
but if they dont do corp stuff the dont get S_____T from the corp

Or if your as new as I am right now, someone just to explain the basics is a great help. A greeter for your corporation for example.

We really tried to make it easier for new members with our corp site. So you can check it out in the beginning if you like. Pff. I hope to get more time to put up more guides etc. :)
