Yeah, how could an entire country be so ignorant and small minded? Luckily we're not like that in the west!

Wikipedia states it was actually invented in Greece and was spread by Alexander the Great where Egypt adopted it. It's pretty common in Turkey these days but strict Muslim countries do not practice it.

Actually, from the page you just linked, it says:
"Many dancers subscribe to one or another of a number of theories regarding the origins of the form. Some of these theories are that the dance form:
* descended from Greece, spreading with Alexander the Great * descended from dances in early Egypt * descended from a religious dance Temple Priestesses once practiced * had been a part of traditional birthing practices in the region(s) of origin * had spread from the migrations of the Romani people (also called 'Gypsies') and related groups, with origins in India."
That's far away from stating anything.

Well, I didn't actually read the whole thing. I was on my lunch break and didn't have time so I skimmed it hehe.
Anyways, going back to the OP, the punishment is far too extreme for the crime. But it does raise the question of what good ****ography actually does in a moral context.

I'm locking this thread because discussions about human rights has inherently political elements to it and also, discussions about ****ography are not appropriate for a teen rated forum. *click*
