ICE is Coming to EVE Tau Ceti Federation

EVE is the only MMO that is not able to handle the afk problem correctly.
Please CCP, consider those changes :
1/ Implement the /afk command in the chat window. This command should allow someone to switch his/her afk flag on and off manually, 2/ Implement an automatic afk feature: the EVE client not receiving any hardware input should flag the logged character afk automatically after 10 minutes. Any new hardware input received after that should reset the afk flag automatically (may be an option), 3/ Through an overlay icon, all characters portraits (show info, chat windows, etc.) should immediately reflect the state of the character's afk flag,
Thoses changes will make life easier for everybody : 1/ No need to nerf the cloaking modules, 2/ We get rid of cloaked afk campers, 3/ We know when a buddy is gone to eat his "Poulet Frites" (sorry I can't stand junk food).
Thank you very much, Ambre.

Eeerm an afk flag in eve is like the equivalent of a "shoot me" flag.
I'd rather just get disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.

What if it was implemented just for corp to see ? green available for chat, yellow afk or DND
Disconnected after 15 mins ?, that happens already :P

That's your problem. You are NEVER supposed to play afk in EVE. Leave the game if you know you are going to go afk for more than 10 minutes, that's easy.

Lol.
So if I sit in a cov ops, the first thing I do is type /afk.
Soon the local will learn that that does NOT mean im really afk, thus making the flag pointless for you perceaved benifits.
Try again.

I agree. AFK'ing, intentional or not, should come with some drawbacks. After 15m the corp/alliance gets a flag on your icon declaring inactivity. After 1 hour of no directed actionable input (i.e. warp somewhere, chat in an *active* chat window, perform a market task, et al) the client shuts down. Measures would have to be implemented to limit macros from abusing the system... but they'll just find some other way around any changes.

No,
Cyno alts can be left on for multiple hours depending on work being done; if they get auto dc/d that'll **** me and a lot of people off so.

Your problem again. If you are really in game, please consider moving your mouse around once in a while ...

The only real afk feature i'd like to see would be related to gangs/fleets. So you can leave the gang for a bit and rejoin without the pain of getting a invite move squad again etc. --------------------------------- There's a simple solution to every problem. It is always invariably wrong |

IŠve seen it in wow and eve can have a similar system. When you go afk, you get the afk flag after 5mins (?) and get a disconnect to the char selection screen shortly after that and finally to the log in screen. Just dont implent that you stay afk when you move in the settings. Any action should disable the afk flag.

I can see a /AFK command being added. However, all it would accomplish is paint a bullseye on you and announce in local: "<CharacterName> is now A Free Kill!".. pretty much the same thing it does in any other MMO with any PvP functionality

Automatic disconnect is a bad idea, for reasons already discussed, but I think there's some milage in AFK mode. Being able to see who in your alliance/station is actually online is handy.
On the other hand, it might just encourage more login traps.

And isn't that the player's problem and responsability ? EVE is supposed to be a game intended to a mature audience where people learn from their mistakes ... You never travel afk in low-sec after your first pod-kill, you'll learn to control when you can and when you cannot allow the game to flag you afk.

how about you just start a chat shannel where you type AFK/Back in, then you have a manual fak-system for your gang/corp/alliance.
and you wont get the Free-Kill flag for anyone to see

That would be pointless. You already got the standard channels for that. ______________________________

Out of the question, you will be back with afk campers who obviously will not set the option.
Guys, WoW is the most successful PvP game in the industry and it has those functionnalities. Nothing new in my post. The objective is not to protect the careless or spare the grievers but to enhance the game as a whole.

and is has no death penalty. it doesnt matter if you get ganked when afk.
that is the big differense, here we loose things when we die, in the-game-i-cant-name they dont. it is a quite big difference

Just look at their portrait, an overlay icon should be clearly visible on them if they are afk.

Succesful "pvp" game? Measured in what way? Number of subscribers? It flunked like a brick when i looked at it.
What does that have to do with eve? -- .sig apathy ftw |
