I was flying my caracal last night, and loaded up heavy missiles for the first time to try and find some rats. I fitted a target disruptor module, and then I loaded my missiles, and off I went. I made sure to check that my target disruptor could reach out and grab the rats at a goodly range (46km) and then took off. Now, when I faced my first rat, I found that I could not target them until they were within 30 km of my ship. The caracal has a max range of 58 km, but I might as well not have fitted that tracking disruptor.
How come I can't target out that far? What gives? I have Long-range Targeting to I, but that would only increase the stats on the ship specs wouldn't it? Idk why I would have a drop in effective sensor range. What am I missing?

What rats? Some of them (usually Serpentis) have sensor dampening abilities which limit your targeting range.

I was in Gallente Space, that would be

Ah, ic, Serpentis, ok. So.. Sensor boosters then?

Yes a sensor booster would effectively "cancel" out the negative effects of the dampener. ----------------------------------------- Don't submit to stupid rules Be yourself and not a fool Don't accept average habits Open your heart and push the limits |

Do you have warp core stabs installed?

Edited by: Panch0Villa on 15/06/2007 17:29:14 Of course! I'm a noob, but that doesn't always mean the same thing as dumb. Or does it?
(Did I mention I headed out to lo-sec?)

Edited by: Kumu Honua on 15/06/2007 17:49:54 Warp core stabilizers adversely affect your lock time, and range.
That is why your range is lower than you expected.
Read the show info on the stab.
Edit: I didn't imply that it was dumb. I just asked if you had them.

Of course it helps if you read the full attributes before fitting a module. Warp Core stabs have a negitive effect on targeting range. The scan resolution bonus and max targetting range modifier are not helpful, each warp core stab you fit halves your targeting range and doubles your targeting time.

Edited by: Panch0Villa on 15/06/2007 17:58:25 Ah, ic. I did not know warp cores had a negative mod to target range and stuff. well, I stand corrected.
It's these little things I gotta figure out. Thus, I am a frequent poster to the noob forum for now
And as a nub, I have lo skills on some of the important and wide-ranging engineering and Electronics skillsets. Something I plan to redress soon.
Thanks to all. Your inputs are appreciated!
