Hi, I've been trying EvE before, for some time ago. I remember that I've seen talk in the forums about custom creation of charaters. I would like some advice on how I should place my skills for being a pure combat pilot, mostly solo combat in agent missions (Willpower etc. how should I put them?). I I'm thinking of being Gallente but maybe a different race is better at combat? And when the character has been created, what skills should I learn and what skills should I skip to make the fastest way to a Megathron? If you want to help me out, I would be appreciated, thanks.

high perception and willpower will give you faster training time on most weapons and ships.
Race is totally independent of what ship you choose to fly, you may pick any ship and match it to any race, which is why you see many people choosing caldari characters for their optimal training time but then flying a different race.
In my opinion minmtar and gallente ships are some of the best pvp ships in the game, the Amarr also have some fun and interesting ships.
The LAST thing you should do is try to get into a battle ship as quick as you can or you end up like this nice 3 mth old character Linkage. Take your time start off with frigs, doing lvl1's then move to a cruiser for lvl 2s. Try to get your gunnery up or missiles if caldari ships are your thing, then when you have T2 primary weapons start flying battle cruisers on lvl3's. THEN start working on a battle ship. I dont ever suggest being less than 6mths old and fly a BS and even that is pushing it.

Edited by: Admus on 16/06/2007 10:36:55 Well, I recommend Perception and Intelligence as your main concerns, but you would be much better off visiting this fine thread to further satisfy your curiosity.
Edit: I am a useless forum jockey - can't get the link to work.

As stated, do NOT rush into a battleship.
Learning skills are GREAT. With the "possible" exception of Charisma skills, you will want all the Rank 1 learning skills trained to Lv 5 and all the Rank 3 Learning skills trained to lv 4. Train Memory and Intel learning first, at least for the rank 1 learning skills.
My own method on learning skills was to force myself to keep at least half my skill points going into learning skills until I had them done.
Understand that Eve is a harsh game. The pain possible in eve means victory and defeat have more emotional "impact", HOWEVER, the pain possible in Eve means players work harder to avoid being victims. Pain means Eve pvp is better, but ALSO rarer than in other games. Pain is Eve's blessing and curse. You need to work for your meaningful kills.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

The Gallente of the Jin-Mei caste are some of the best combat pilots around. Perception is the single most important stat, followed by Willpower. Memory is important for drones and a variety of other things, intelligence is nice to have. Don't put any points in Charisma.
Download EVEMon and install it. And be wary of training very quickly to be able to pilot a ship - there are a lot of support skills that are worth learning, so that you can fly the ship well. This is especially the case in PVP, where player skill and character skill can be far more important than flying an expensive ship.

Have an experiment on this site, before you get carried away with committing to a character.
